I like Carr a lot. I love his dedication, and I hope that he's The Guy for ND.

But if it's true that he inadvertently (and I want to stress that word "inadvertently") played a role both Deuce and Dante decommitting, then I hope he's The Chosen One, because otherwise that's a lot of talent to lose.

If Dante and Deuce both bailed b/c they didn’t want to compete with Carr, then maybe he is. They’d have seen him up close.
I suspect other factors also at play in both decisions though.

You're right, we value Carr very differently. You're making the safe pick, very few QBs prove to be top 5-10 over their careers. Carr's poise as a freshman showed me he is capable of reading defenses and going through is progressions as an 18yo. I can't wait to see him competing next year, I think he's committed and he's growing every day.

Coupled with Landow and Guidugli, I think he's going to win a lot of games at ND. I'll take that over a not-fully-committed athlete QB who has high potential. Knight may turn out to be a top draft pick but 98% of the time, these guys flame out.

Carr never wavered and he has all of the tools.
Agree. The success rate of QB’s is small. People get enamored with the physical aspect, but they need to have it between the ears first and foremost. Carr appears to have that.

One or both between Dante and Deuce probably get scared off I'd wager. If we take Dante, maybe Carr and Deuce both don't commit. In any case, Dante and Deuce both seem like flakes, so no thanks. I think we got the guy with the most character and the right mindset, so I'm happy.

I think Deuce is going to go the same route as Moore. He'll play for a year and then go somewhere else to flame out.

I would take Carr 100% of the time over Knight. Not even close.

If I could only have one, yes I'd take carr

No doubt! I'm over this Knight recruitment ... IF he signs with ND, great and IF NOT .... que sera, sera. Next?!?

More group psychosis.

Now to calm our nerves over the perceived loss of Knight we've all of a sudden mass manufactured this fiction arbitrary reality where it was either ND got Knight or they got Carr. And then since naturally, we all think Carr is obviously the better prospect because of blah blah blah--losing out on a prospect with Vince Young type physical tools doesn't really matter and ho hum ho hum its no biggie.

Even when back in Actual Reality World it wasn't ever an either or proposition between the two.

This then provides the opening for the last step in the recruiting loss grievance process--

The patented and predictable declarative--

I didn't even really want to get that guy anyways. He's just ____________ and will end up ___________.____________ is better anyways.

Carr and McCarthy profiled similarly as recruits, and neither are Vince Young. Michigan's WRs were four-stars as recruits but not exactly elite; comparable to guys currently in our WR room. We, too, have one of the best defenses in the country, and usually one of the best OLs. Our schedule this year is softer than theirs was last year. I dunno. Like I said, there are several ways to win a title.
agree, but we'll have to hit the portal much harder next year. I think a pretty significant drop off next year on the D with losing Mills, Cross, Watts, BenMo. 4 potential all americans on D. We also will lose 3-5 WRs, 3-4 of them will be significant contributors this year.

In the portal next year we'll definitely need (starting quality)
1DE
1-2 DT/NG
1 CB
1 Safety
1-2 WRs
1 TE (Possibly if Evans goes pro and Raridon isn't what we all think he could/should be)

ND is not getting "starter quality" interior dlinemen in the portal. Maybe can get a try-hard eight snap type guy like Smith from two years ago.

Will probably need an upper classman at SDE for depth but wouldn't expect an Oben/JBB type every year there.

Sure, take a WR but there won't be portal guys better than what ND should already have within the program by next year. Probably will need a slow lumbering boundary guy like Smith from Vatech for depth.

That'll be a no go on "starter quality" cornerback. I'm sure they'll find a guy or two for safety.

And you're forgetting the obligatory sub-6ft sub-200lbs +4.60 Nickel transfer from a mid-range P5 program for which not getting would render the traditional ND offseason proceedings incomplete.

Agreed if Dante was scared of by a kid younger than him, he never would've made it here and were better off without him.

More psychological profiling from a guy who shows more issues than all of the quoted posters combined.

I'm fine with losing Knight, he was a nice to have and has a high ceiling. If he leaves, moving on. I always root for the guys we get, life's too short for anything else.

Losing Knight signifies nothing to me other than the kid wanted something ND didn't have. Reports are that we offered lots of $$, we offered an excellent education and we have great coaches. ND vs Ole Miss is a weird flip.

Hope the staff finds a good QB to fill the vacated spot.

How are you doing with all of this? Seems like your birthright might be in danger of going up in flames.

It's a critique/observation of the process moreso than an indictment of any one singular player.

Assuming Golden is still in place, they'll be four years deep into the same defensive system--an eternity this day and age--still backfilling a pivotal spot through mid-P5 transfers that do not fit the profile.

Maybe like actually recruit a Nickel at some point worthy of starting? Just a suggestion.

But yes--also--congrats to UDFA Thomas Harper for joining an exclusive club of 1,700! Will go down in the annuals of ND lore alongside Rockne, Montana, and Teo!

Why one only need observe the immense amount of hand wringing this entire offseason and the reports coming out of fall camp of how ND will never possibly be able to displace the singular talents of the illustrious Thomas Dwayne Harper III. I know it will be one of my greatest concerns on Saturdays this fall.
