I do respect that the French are so proud of the woman they beheaded. They killed the King too, but they really relish that they got *that bitch* in particular. The whole attitude of "and I'll do it again" is oddly comforting and reminds me why they're our old Revolution buddies.

Yeah except that the French hated Marie Antoinette because they are xenophobes, something that persists to this day...

Turns out beheading everyone who the crowd turns on isn't a great form of governance.

I will say this though, having walked through the Palace of Versailles and seeing the Queen's Hamlet where she would go to pretend to be a peasant, I get why a starving person might want to kill someone.

Glad the russian flag/anthem isn't allowed in the games but I feel their athletes shouldn't be allowed either.

I heard a report on this a few days ago and apparently they will have almost zero presence at these games. I think only a dozen are going and they said even a few of those are unlikely to compete.

I don't have much of an issue with the Last Supper thing but can understand why it might rankle some. The iconography used isn't from the literal last supper attended by Christ, but from a popular painting in the 1500s painted by what was reportedly a very gay man. It's not a holy relic.
Let’s honor the painting of a reportedly gay man that respected Jesus and Christianity enough to paint the picture by disrespecting the depiction and painting. Sounds logical.

As logical as being offended on behalf of a Italian who died in the 1500s for a frankly mild homage to one of the most copied and parodied compositions in all of pop culture.

I'm a big da Vinci fan and have studied his works for 100's of hours, but he doesn't own the last supper. He visualized an event that occurred and is one of the most important moments in the entire gospel. The event had as much weight to many before the painting.

If they wanted to recreate the Beatles cover for Abbey road or American Gothic in drag all for it, but this feels like an effort to mock Christians because that has somehow become more acceptable than other religions. I'm also all for free speech, but if you are doing something that is clearly going to offend a large group of protected people, don't gasp when they are offended.

I don't recall gasping. I even said that I could see why it might rankle some in my original post. I was just giving my take on why it's not a huge deal *to me*. Da Vinci doesn't own the biblical last supper but he does pretty much own that composition. I also think it's a good thing that Christianity is seen as a "safe target." When the gospel you preach is one of love that is characterized as being selfless, sacrificial, and unconditionally committed to the well-being of others, it's a positive thing.

I meant to make one post on the subject and now I've made three (and a dig at Herbstriet). Like Blazer said, we all have our own takes and sensibilities.

I am die hard Christian if that’s a thing. I agree with what you are saying about being a safe target in regard to Christians shouldn’t be the ones bitching back but I think a lot people worry (myself included) that Christians are THE target. There is a difference and distinction between the two. There is an obvious culture war between the Christian right and gay alphabet soup mafia. Christians don’t like the evolving culture shift away from Christianity and as it shift away its shifting away away and to the opposite side. I would be remiss if I didn’t add that a lot of Christian’s have created or made the target bigger. I think in the 90s 80-90 percent of people identified as Christian now it’s close to 50%. I don’t think the gospel has changed, but I think Christians have and not for the better which has made the culture shift easier. But I digress, go USA!! 🇺🇸

What slurs? You're that offended and defensive about a group of people who go out of their way to seek attention, then get mad when they get it? You want to have a discussion about trannies, we can do it. You won't like how it goes, but I'll be glad to talk about it with you.

As for being cruel, you missed the point. You're not cruel. You're not even effective. You're childish and silly and weak. If you want to insult me, at least be good at it. You gotta know your target and what works. You don't. I'll help you, though. Show me your best shot, not some little girl hair pulling fluff. Hit me with your best 5 insults and I'll show you how to improve them and help you step your game up.

Assuming you're just being dense because normally I really like your views and what you offer, I can promise you transgender people do not go out of there way to seek attention. A certain political party has gone out of it's way too attack and make transgender people one of their main political talking points. There's nothing more transgender individuals would love than to not be the center of attention.

And if you all are really getting upset because a painting about a group of people being persecuted for their views not understood by others can't see how this rendition of it applies today in our current world when transgender people are under attack everyday for just wanting to exist than your not as intelligent as you all think and way softer as well. It's not very Christ like

Do you think if they are “just wanting to exist” they probably would have thought about their performance a little more? I said earlier that Christians sometimes don’t themselves any favors in regard to the target on their backs but it goes both ways, no pun intended. Christians are just as flawed as the next person, straight or gay. But you can play the act “Christ like” one way… but what about the other way? Are they given a pass because they are just acting “Gay like”?

Tell me which country we are illegally invading and committing genocide in?
Currently occupying or have forces in Iraq, Lybia, Syria, Still bombing Somalia and Yemen. Illegal embargo’s against Cuba and Venezuela. Do I need to go on there are more? Are you an empire baby that thinks the US has the right to bomb any country it wants because we are America and spreading freedom? How many countries do you think the US military occupies? How many countries do you thiink Russia occupies?

Let me add this discussion has no business in this thread so please delete but also delete his post, too, then.

What performance are you talking about? There's no such think as "gay like" just because someone expresses themselves in ways that don't conform with what your religious beliefs are doesn't make those individuals wrong. There's groups of people straight or queer that take that to the extreme but doesn't make them less than.

I am a Christian, may I express myself? No… ahh got it. Just because my expression doesn’t conform to your views doesn’t make me wrong… am I doing this right?
