I remember when we were losing our WRs last year and the meltdown surrounding that. Then suddenly Freeman started hauling in portal guys and the meltdown flipped upside down. The next couple weeks look brutal but maybe Freeman has something up his sleeve. IDK what that would be, but he’s going to have to figure something out.

The difference was we actually weren't losing our top players to the portal, and we got better players in the portal. We aren't going to get more talented players than Hines/Meadows in the portal.

You don't know that to be true. We have countless examples of highly ranked WRs not living up to billing. We also have transferred in guys that have helped immensely, while some didn't. You don't know that to be true. We have countless examples of highly ranked WRs not living up to billing. We also have transferred in guys that have helped immensely, while some didn't. But to sit here today and say that is either trolling, emoting, or intellectually dishonest. Maybe a combo of them.

Yes, but how do you know Meadows isn't going to be another Tobias? Or Hines isn't Tyree? You don't, there is no way to know that a year before they even suit up for Freshman fall camp.

I don't at all, I added a sentence before you responded. This sentence(s) Hines and Meadows are very very talented. That doesn't mean they will pan out. If after a year or two they aren't doing well and not playing, they will probably transfer. ND will probably pick up better wrs, but they won't be game changers. NDs chance at game changing WRs comes from HS recruiting and development.

My point is what Hines/Meadows have the potential to be ND won't land that in the portal. Doesn't mean they become it. Make sense? I think we're on same page, kinda. To put it another way. Meadows has top 15 nfl pick potential, but he could also go undrafted and never be good. We aren't getting a top 15 nfl draft pick WR from the portal. But we could find a late round pick that would be better than a WR that doesn't pan out. Not a game changer, but helps the team.

I'm from FW.
I will say this.
I truly believe Brandon Logan will be a better player than Tae Johnson.
Tae has the better size (length).
But Brandon Logan has so much more understanding of the game at this level. It's certainly possible that it all clicks for Tae, but I see Brandon as an Alohi type of safety.

I will say this.

I think some people just need to unplug for few weeks. Maybe turn off your phones, go to the lake with your family, drink a couple beers, throw a pigskin around, drive some golf balls into a lake, wrestle some burrs and check back in a month or two.

I have no problem with the ND staff taking vacations. I think they should, and totally get away from football for a few weeks with their families.
But here are the two issues with how it was done:
First, they have a full month from the dead period starting until they show back up the week of the grill & chill.
They cannot, ever, skip the final weekend of the open period & go on vacation. They left for vacation after the June 16th weekend. They had a full 7 more days in the open period to recruit kids hard with no restrictions. They could see the kids in person, visits, etc…to close the deal.

And the following week, when the dead period started, that’s decision time for recruits. You aren’t going to be as available as a staff spread all over the world on vacation as when you are in the office.
Bama, LSU, Texas, USC were doing daily zoom calls with the kids ND was leading for while ND staff was on vacation.

Second, just split up the times so half the coaches are gone while other half is still recruiting. No need for everyone to all go at the same time. You have an entire month. Split them up.

ND was the clear leader for Faraimo, NOB, Hines, Robinson, and was back in front for Meadows & Taylor, when the ND staff went on vacation mid-June. Blair had already committed to the staff a week earlier.

Faraimo started hanging out at USC & decided not to shut it down & go visit Texas. He was going to announce July 4th week (to ND). The ND staff didn’t close, & he decided to back off & think more.
USC was all over Hines the past 3 weeks. ND wasn’t. USC now leads for Hines.
Washington was all over Robinson the past 3 weeks. ND wasn’t. Guess who leads?
Bama & LSU were seeing Meadows in person the final open week & doing daily zooms & calls with him the past 2 weeks, with full staffs on the call. ND wasn’t.

After the mid-June visit weekend, ND led for 6 of 7, co-lead for the 7th & was back out front for Taylor.

And ND passed on Hall & Joseph because they thought they were getting the other 3 WRs & 2 Safties. (ND got 1, Blair).

I have no problem going on a needed vacation.
But you don’t send the entire staff at the sane time, & you don’t do it while open recruiting is still available. Or when kids are in decision mode.
And you are crazy if you think the staff recruited as hard on vacation as if they were in the office.
And ND realized this now & are scrambling to try to get back in it with Hines, Robinson, Meadows, & lock down Faraimo again.

It’s hard not to think about Freeman learning on the job and being outclassed by veteran coaches and recruiters. Seems like a rookie mistake.

MLB.com does not have Logan their Top 250 prospects list. Round 9 starts at around 250.

I only watched IB for their recruiting updates with Ryan Roberts, then my girlfriend said Ryan Roberts looks like chicken little and I can't unsee it.

This is starting to sound like the ND beat got too high on post-ND visit optimism, and now that recruits had other visits, it's possible we just simple got beat out.

Or... the reverse is happening and the ND beat is getting too low on non-ND visit optimism.

Either way, this staff goes all out for recruiting. And in the small chance a well deserved vacation was able to swing momentum away from the good guys, MF and crew will get it back.

MLB.com does not have Logan their Top 250 prospects list. Round 9 starts at around 250.

Wouldn't think that someone who is in the 2025 class would appear on that list.

Prep Baseball Report has him at 65 nationally for the 2025 high school class. Don't have any concept on how that high school ranking would likely correlate to potential draft status.

Ill add, that when looking at the signing bonuses for MLB draft picks, the 65th pick in '23 draft, signed for $1.184 million.

Logan choosing football over baseball may likely leave $1 million + on the table for him.

The 65th pick in the '23 draft was not the 65th highest rated high schooler that year. Probably more like #10 or so if I were to guess. Logan's potential draft slot would be expected to be much much further down.

Half the board says that we lose recruits because we aren’t in on them early enough. The other half says we just need to win to get better recruits

I’m not buying it. A few zoom calls is not gonna flip a kid who just completed an official, assuming the kid truly has ND as his favorite. I get that they are impressionable teenagers, but the aren’t complete idiots.
