I feel that this is the best ND QB recruiting has gone since I've followed recruiting.

It's hard to predict who's going to stay or who is going to transfer.

As of today it's pretty cool to say we've got Carr-Knight-Grubbs for the future.
Yes totally agree. Knight's measurables, size, and overall physical attributes are some of the best I've seen ever for a hs qb. His potential is through the roof. Just feel Carr and Grubbs are more polished currently. Impossible to predict the future at the position, but should be a good result with this type of talent stocked. Freeman has dramatically improved qb recruiting at ND.

It's clear to see that Freeman has emphasized the importance of recruiting when he got hired. It's gotten better and will continue to get better. At the B&G game Carr looked liked he was in the program longer than a few months, Knight is the perfect QB for Denbrock's system. I haven't seen much of Grubbs, but with all of the great information from posters here I am sold.

Refused to wear green jersey. Refuses to go all in. Do not want.
Looks like a deep threat at WR.

Kelly and Rees problem is they had major issues at going after guys they should have way earlier. McCarthy should have been at ND and they dropped the ball big time

They had problems evaluating talent and developing talent. It doesn’t get much worse than that.

It would foolish to think all three of Carr, Knight, and Grubbs will stay at Notre Dame for 3-5 years. Hell, there’s probably a chance that 2 of them end up leaving through the portal.

How the staff is handling the QB position is how it should be done. Bring in as much talent as possible and let the best man win. The every other year bullshit that Kelly and Rees did clearly didn’t work.

The problem was clearly with BK's recruiting philosophy as once he was out the door Rees got Minchey, Hartman, and Carr which started our great QB turnaround. The talent evaluation and development was on Long. In his three 2018-2020 classes he had the same number of players drafted as Rees's 1st class: (Patterson, Kyren, and Mayer compared to Alt, Fisher, Estime). That doesn't even include the guys from that first Rees class that are still playing and are still contributors: Mitch Evans, Jayden Thomas, Coogan, and to a lesser extent Rocco and Colzie. So clearly recruiting and development both improved after Long left, but the recruiting aspect especially picked up once Freeman took over from BK.

Anyone with access care to summarize? Same click bait like 247 last week I hope?

Essentially, it's all in this video. Knight is solid to ND, but still listens to other schools. Knight cites college as a business, stating that things can happen and it's better not to be left out because bridges were burned.

I look at this from the other end. Deuce is going up against multiple guys who are better QB's right now. The odds of him being the man at ND (without injury's ahead of him) are low because CJ's got a head start on him.

When I say Deuce could be the next Arnez Battle or Donovan McCully from IU... I'm not kidding.
Battle is a horrible comparison, he was around 6' 200lbs, fairly inaccurate w/above average arm in HS, not quite as athletic or fast (mid 4.6 in HS) and was initially recruited to run the option. McCulley is a better comparison from an athletic perspective but was never given a fair shake at QB nor did they have anything around him. Very talented and rangy athlete (4.5) like Knight about 6'5 and had all the tools as a QB, even set Fr records in his 1st start, good arm but needing to work on settling in the pocket.

You're overthinking it. I'm not comparing them as QB's. All I'm saying is like Battle and McCulley, Deuce is athletic enough to be a college receiver if QB doesn't work out.

However, in this day of free agency on demand and NIL deals... he's almost a lock to portal out and QB elsewhere... if he doesn't lock down a starting gig early on.

Gotcha, and yea this NIL/Portal era as you see just has some guys going for 2nd, 3rd and even 4th chances in some cases.

And he's smart to think that way. Things do happen. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Deuce ultimately signs with Ole Miss... as a transfer in January 2027. But right now he appears all Irish, and that's great.

He looked smooth in his throwing motion. Nice over the top throws. Haven’t been this excited about our qb room since Clausen/Crist

I loved Clausen when he was at ND. Kid was naturally a great passer and offense was fun. Crist was disappointing considering he was a 5 star. I was pretty amped about Golson signing. Liked the quick release, pocket presence, and arm strength. Kid really could have brought a nc to South Bend, as he was close. Right now is super exciting. I expected Freeman to recruit better than Kelly, but this is even more than I anticipated with qbs.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I will not be havin' Battle bashin' goin' on around here! You're right, he was absolutely recruited to run the Option, but he was still pretty athletic and turned into a great WR. He was athletic enough to switch positions and made a good career in the NFL out of it. He also nearly beat #1 Nebraska at home with a damn broken wrist, I blame Boob Davie for being conservative and blowing opportunities in that one.

I'll always remember this. After Boob had a losing streak against Michigan State, backup QB Dillingham hit Battle for a huge play in the final minute to finally beat the Spartans and bring the Megaphone home. I remember watching this at work, screaming at the TV. The call from Tony Roberts was great:

Breaking FSU's hearts on the first play

May the best man win. These high level qb’s know you can’t avoid competition unless you’re shadeur and your dads the coach.
I mean, it’s as simple as that. You can’t win with a QB that doesn’t believe he’s that guy. If Deuce were to leave because he didn’t believe in himself, then he was going to leave after his freshman year when CJ is the starter with a couple years of eligibility left anyway.

I’ll say that about Arch Manning. I don’t think very much of him as a prospect, but not many top QBs stay at a school for two seasons like he is. He clearly values competing and developing more than he does reps on a go-nowhere team.

Bama just flipped a 4 star QB from SMU. Now we just need Ole Miss to find one.

I liked Battle quite a bit, especially for sticking with ND. No bashing at all just stating the facts about his athleticism/measurables (6'1 214lb, 4.59 40, 35"VJ) were solid for a QB but well below average for a QB. I wish he could've gotten a better shot at QB but he struggled hitting the side of a barn in limited action (43%).

I certainly remember that time period, as it was around the years of my recruitment process (as a matter a fact on that date, I recorded the game as I always did and had a game at Texas Tech that evening)....One thing about Davie for his coaching miscues he sure could recruit the hell out of Texas.

True, he could recruit Texas. Helped that he probably had made a lot of in-roads with high school coaches there as a DC for Texas A&M.
