This isn't a blessing. We have a new OC, new QB, all new WRs and WR coach. This is a big deal so I'm not going to down play it, and we play in arguably the toughest place in America in week 1. Steve isn't it IMO, but I hope I'm wrong.
15 other stadiums from Eugene to Tallahassee would like a word.

This isn't a big deal, it's a stress fracture surgery. He will be able to do full workouts in 8 weeks. Everyone is overreacting.

Full workouts in 8 weeks? Spring practice will be over. Unless Freeman has changed the practice structure, he won’t be decked out in full pads, playing actual football and going reps and seeing different looks against the ND defense (whether first, second or scout team) until fall camp a few weeks before A&M.

Call me skeptical, but throwing the football to uncovered WRs in shorts and shirt isn’t getting him prepared.

I’d be fine with Angeli if OLT and Fischer were back but they aren’t you need a running QB to make them honest

So he’s got osteoporosis like Logan Diggs?

Two surgeries since enrolling in January is pretty wild. Your job to lose, Stevie.

In a roundabout way, this may end up as a net positive for ND in the end. Obviously missing out on Spring reps is bad, and this seems to be a recurring issue with Leonard which is cause for concern. If Leonard was clear QB1 after the Spring though, Angeli was in all likelihood transferring. Hard to see him transferring now as he’ll be the clear QB2 for a QB that hasn’t been healthy for more than a couple weeks at a time since September 30th.

Still waiting for a doctor to say, "Yeah, not gonna lie, that wasn't my best effort and we may have to redo it in a few months"

I hope not... South Bend Orthropaedics lead foot guy who works with ND Athletics is a guy I coached in college. Though he may not do the bone work unless it has some tendon/ligament needs.

I wasn't sold on the idea that Angeli would transfer to begin with, though I'd agree this makes that less likely.

I’ll be the voice of reason without the rose colored glasses. The WRs wil get better catching bad balls from Angela and then strive with the our Lord and Savior Riley coming back to full strength.

It's the same one according to MF

They needed to tweak the plate. He said everything went great according to the docs
When was the last time we heard a coach say the surgery didn’t go well and we are fucked?

Well... He wouldn't have said it went bad... he would have probably just said "we'll have to wait and see, injuries are unpredictable, he's in good spirits... etc"

Not, "It went great according to the docs and having him back for spring practices is absolutely on the table"

I appreciate my fellow Irish fans’ optimism with Angeli and Minchey’s play, but we’re losing 3+ games this year with those two as our starting QB. And frankly, with this year’s schedule, that is unacceptable. Angeli’s mop up time against an abysmal PItt team and going against Oregon State’s walk-ons was great and all, but like Hartman, we got Riley for a reason. He needs to get healthy. He needs to play.

3+ losses with either of those two is excessive, come off the ledge. We're returning a fantastic defense, we've upgraded at WR and a huge upgrade at OC, and we've got a very strong backfield. There's question marks at OL, but there's talent there and I expect Denbrock figures it out. The schedule is super favorable. Even with Angeli at QB the only game that gives me pause is A&M because it's an early game that will probably be at night in a hostile environment. I don't expect Florida State to be quite as good as last year and if it's cold again they'll struggle. I don't see Louisville getting the jump on us again with this matchup at home and following Miami Ohio. A Caleb William-less USC doesn't particularly scare me unless they make a major turn around on defense in a year. I'm not incredibly sold on Leonard yet personally, I think he's good but I don't think he's the difference between us going 12-0 and having 3+ losses.
