Nothing to be sorry about. I wasn’t a big fan of his music but seemed like a down-to-earth guy. Huge football fan (Dallas Cowboys & OU). But when I saw the recent Clint Eastwood movie (The Mule?) I heard a song at the end of the flick called “Don’t Let the Old Man In” and thought it was pretty poignant. I highly doubt he wrote the tune but it really appealed to an old guy like me.

Mr. John Chuma passed away yesterday. He was a local baseball coaching legend. He helped so many young men (and women) with the game. He coached Little League, Teener League, Legion, high school, softball, ran the halftime club for high school football, was an Elk.... Just an all time great community man. He was always game to talk sports, especially baseball. You could have an hour conversation with him and it felt like 10 minutes. I was so very fortunate to know him, and learn from him. Many in our area feel the same way.

RIP Mr. Chuma

Don’t know anyone from there and I am not but these are the ones that can really change a community. Hopefully others step up to take over his rolls.

A lot of guys who cashed those checks have love and respect for Toby Keith. He did 11 USO tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, and he showed up at some remote FOBs that no other entertainers went to and spent real time with the troops there. He never put on the uniform, but his active support for those who did was solid. This is a good story about another small kindness that showed his genuine support for US troops and their families. It's partly true. He was a registered Democrat till 2008, then went Independent. Apparently he never saw himself as a true conservative, but he also allowed conservatives to use his music. He leaned more toward Libertarian apparently like Willie and Merle. A bit surprising, I would have guessed he was solid right wing the way some publications painted him.

Beloved Dundee Middle School music teacher dies at 34; he instilled love of performing

Matt Bishop, 34, died unexpectedly at his home in Elgin Saturday. He was a Dundee Middle School music teacher for 12 years and participated in the school's band, choir, orchestra, musicals, plays and multiple clubs.

This week has been horrible for our community. This man brought out confidence and inspiration in my daughter that my wife and I never could. He would always tell her, "Stop it, Lila, you're awesome." With his guidance and mentoring, she earned one of the lead roles in this year's musical in April. Despite Mr. Bishop's passing, the show will go on.

He was the heart of that school. Kids are signing a petition to have the school renamed after him. The remainder of the school year is going to be difficult and our entire township is in mourning right now.
