Shut-down corner that did an absolutely amazing job at ND. Will be interested to see how he does going forward.

I know he’s one of the good ones but this could be the last meaningful game for quite some time for these borderline guys.

I wonder what Notre Dame/college football can do to prevent these opt outs. I don't think Notre Dame has one draft eligible player playing in the bowl. Joe Alt and Audric Estime would be stupid to play. The others? There is a very good chance none of them get drafted, besides JJB.

I wonder if they can add some kind of bowl game participation language in NIL contracts. Or, as it was stated in an II podcast, play your bowl opponent in the next season as a regular season game.

I can't think of any way to get guys to play besides paying them. I'm not pressed over opting out of the Sun Bowl, but if Cam and Hartman and others did this for a NY6 bowl it would be more disappointing. I guess that's the playoffs next year so a moot point.

I agree on some (Liufau, Hartman, etc) but Hart will get drafted. He’s a very good corner with the sort of measurables the NFL loves. He owes it to himself not to bust his shoulder in the Sun Bowl.

His size and length will probably warrant a late round pick. But, yes, I don't think it should require him to sit out the bowl game.

Where he gets picked will be determined on his medical. But, he has second and third round grades. He'll test well at the combine. Don't be surprised if he's picked in the Top 75.

Marist is gonna get drafted and I'd bet he makes an active/regular season roster. When he flashes, he's really special. Being able to concentrate 100% on football should push him into at least a serviceable part of a journeyman type role if he wants it.

I could see him being a late bloomer that surprises a lot of Irish fans in the NFL. I'm a big fan of his. I understand the criticisms, but he plays all out, he's got all the tools, and he's an ND man. He loves ND. I wanted him back.

Or maybe we just let the kids make their own decision on their own future instead of worrying about us getting a bowl trophy?

Seriously, how can you criticize these kids after what happened with Jaylon against OSU in the Fiesta Bowl? These kids are allowed to protect their futures, and getting a "W" at the end of the season for purposes of whatever we might think could benefit the program moving forward (recruiting momentum, whatever) should not be the consideration. At all.

This won't fix the issue. Even for kids who won't go in the first two days, the risk to a payday is FAR too significant to have them risk their NFL careers.

From this article: How much money do seventh round picks in the NFL Draft make?

The first pick of the fourth round will sign a contract worth approximately $4.72 million and receive a signing bonus of approximately $887,172.

The first pick of the seventh round will sign a contract worth approximately $3.963 million and receive a signing bonus of approximately $123,384.

If a guy like Hart plays in the Sun Bowl, gets injured and slips from the fourth round to the seventh round, he could lose about $750,000 in guaranteed money. That's a significant risk and he's put everything on tape that he needs to; there's nothing he can do in the game except lower his stock, and "paying kids" to play in meaningless bowl games isn't going to do a damn thing to fill that gap.

Play all the young guys. Let's see what they got. If we can't curb stomp or at the bare minimum control Oregon St then they ain't it anyway IMO

Was expecting this to be a transfer announcement bump. He could use the extra year. He has the perfect body for a prototype NFL CB, IMO.
This post DID age well. You nailed it.

Best of luck Mr. Hart.

This is the same face I make when the lady asks me if instead of drinking heavily by the fire and playing Golden Tee afterwards on a Saturday night, would I rather go for a walk and watch rom coms on Netflix...

Never and I repeat NEVER get sucked into a Lifetime/Hallmark movie. It is certain you will finish the movie and never get that time in your life back.

Just Netflix, or Netflix and chill? There's an important distinction there!

Not sure if it's normal to have as many good 1 on 1 reps as he's had at these practices.

Gotta be helping his stock. I still think though he'll fall to day 3 based simply off of injury concerns but he's a good 40 time away from debunking that as well
