ND alumni investment professional network outclasses 99% of FBS schools. I’m glad they are running it as, such. Not only for the money, but as Toronto pointed out, the sustainability and stewardship factor. The understanding of the inherent volatility of investing, risk profiles etc. I think we are going to be very competitive vs. the schools relying on Chevrolet king of west Pennsylvania etc.

For a couple of days, Irish Breakdown's "New Champion's Lounge" was open for all to view, members and nonmembers. I'm not sure if it was a glitch in the system or they were in "test mode", but to be frank, I was a little taken back at the sheer number of IB members that referred to Bryan Driskell as "Coach D" and/or referenced "Coach D's" expansive background and knowledge in coaching, recruiting, and talent evaluation in their posts. You know, admittedly, I'm sure he knows more about X's and O's than me, that said, in no way, shape, or form would I view the guy as this football guru. I mean, in the past, I've referred to him as "Coach D" in jest, but it's all compliments and praises over there on IB.

There’s a lot of people there who openly express how they don’t believe anything they read if it doesn’t come from him.

Interesting hate around Driskell. He knows a sh!tload more than me re college FB and I'm more than happy to listen and use my brain to figure out what I'll keep and on the flip side, what I'll disregard.

You do you. Free will is great. All I know is I’m not going to waste my time listening to that blow hard D3 coach who likes to act like he’s smarter than everyone.

Driskell is an ass. Nobody calls a washed up D3 guy "Coach" just because he spent a few years on the sidelines. If he was good he'd still be coaching. He's an opinion guy that loves to hear himself talk, and his opinions are often wrong. Don't give him clicks unless you hate your life.

Of course you're a Driskell guy  That explains a lot.
Driskell is for people that want to be told what to think, rather than think for themselves. That's why his cult followers start sentences with "Driskell says" or "Driskell thinks."

He knows football. But he’s a pretty big narcissist. Thinks most people that talk hall are complete jokes and that he knows best. He’s even started to corrupt Ryan a little.

You joke (or do you??), but ND's surprising success with the transfer portal and NIL for current players, rather than recruits, combined with the new NCAA president's movement towards what is legitimately pay-for-play at this point, shows that ND might be changing their tune on the "two divisions" thing.

JS has long said that if NCAA football turns into pay-for-play, which would essentially mean college football is minor leagues (even though he's kind of naive in missing that it basically already is), that ND would split off and stick with the academic-minded institutions with no interest in pay-for-play.

ND's latest movements and success could be viewed as evidence to the contrary, though. We'll see!
I think you got this wrong. Getting paid to play by the university is NOT the same thing as individual athletes using their own resources to go out and use their names and likenesses to make money. Swarbrick was actually one of the first ADs to publically push for NIL several years ago before NIL got passed by the NCAA. The fact that ND is getting better and more aggressive with how they handle NIL does not in any way get any closer to the "pay for play" model that he has said ND will be against. If Universities ever have to pay athletes directly to play that will change things. But so far, ramping up ND's NIL efforts is consistent with what JS envisioned from the beginning.

The issue with ryan is he will never say anything negative. IB seems to have a policy where they fully intend to suppress any type of negative news unless they just cant get away with it.

I meant that the new NCAA president has introduced a plan for what is basically pay-for-play, where the schools themselves can facilitate payments for student athletes, NIL-related or otherwise.

My point was that even if things go the route of pay-for-play, ND's success with NIL and the portal might show that the admin has rethought their stance on distancing themselves from the "minor league" model. It's a rose-colored-glasses take on things, but it's based on my surprise at how well ND has adapted to the new landscape... maybe they'll adapt again, rather than stepping back into what is essentially the Ivy league model.

You starting a sentence w/ “Driskell“ was too good to pass up. I get your drift thought. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

OK, I get what you're saying and maybe you're right that ND might soften its original stance about pay-for-play, but so far I think they are being consistent with their original stance.

The NCAA president's proposed plan is a last-ditch effort to keep the NIL model intact and as robust as possible to avoid the direct pay-for-play model that would essentially make athletes employees and no longer student-athletes. That's the worst-case scenario JS and many other Div 1 schools (Clemson and Dabo, for example) wanted to avoid from the beginning, so it's not too surprising to me that any efforts to strengthen NIL and fight off designating athletes as employees would be embraced by JS and ND.

I think the main thing that has changed is, originally, JS and the BOT thought they could dip their toes into the NIL world and still be competitive but have since found out ND was getting left behind. They are finally facing reality and are committed to being as competitive in the NIL world as they possibly can without sacrificing their core values. I think it's great they are finally doing that and hope they do more (loosen transfer rules, for example), but I'm not sure this means their original stance toward pay-for-play/athletes-are-employees has changed... but maybe it has.

does no one else see how douchy that post was? We get it. You are super tough. Others here excel at plenty more important things and you dont see them bragging or bringing it up like douches. Relax there tough guy. Lots of people on here...so that must have been a massive amount of finger banging.
The fact you took it seriously is incredible.

I did do more important stuff also. Was in the the 24th STS, and more importantly am a father of two.
Call me a douche. Cool. Been called way worse.

The point is people wanted me to talk shit on here for fun. So I did.
I’m sure you are also important, hopefully you are super importantly to your family.

I talk shit on Saturday’s, on my cheat day, because people ask me to. If that offends anyone, so be it.

I’m easy to find. Come have a beer or Scotch with me.

Me too. The guy has a lot of range. Last week he was talking about finger blasting teenage girls, this week he’s threatening to sodomize fellow posters. I’m not sure what his dosage of TRT is but he might want to cut it down before next week.

To make it sound less creepy!! The context was that he was a high schooler too.

Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t the Gug renovation been in the works for a couple years now. JS has said in the past the plan is to have it fully funded before starting work. Must be that time.

I don't have anything to source or reference, but I feel like the old guys on the beat, Printer/Frank/Hansen all referenced in various/sporadic podcasts over the last 18 months that it was on track to start in 2020 but then the pandemic threw the funding out of whack. When it all stabilized they decided to modify the original plans - presumably to add things and not to reduce. I tend to trust the old guard on stuff like this
