I hate to say Napolean complex (especially on someone of his size) but I fear he just suffered from being in the shadow of Joe Alt for too long. And the ironic part is, he could have been the star next year.

Like I said the other day, Kevin Austin redux.
I 100% believe this. He came in as the 5 star prospect, destined to take over at LT. And the 6'8" 3 star TE usurped him and gets the most press of any OL in the country.

Imagine having $100 and wanting to turn it into $1000. You invest in the market over a few years, it grows to maybe $700-$800, and you have about one more year until you hit your goal.

Then you suddenly decide to throw it all into some high-risk project where it may pan out for a bit more, but you also have high probability of blanking out. You’ve stayed the course but you just can’t wait one more year.

That’s what many of these kids are deciding to do, except now it’s worse because it’s their future livelihood. Hope I’m wrong, go ball out Blake, but I think an extra year would really benefit here.
Exactly the response I expect out a guy with a username NumbersGuy.

Kevin went after 4 years though (I think). He should have come back again but he did stay 4 years. (I think)

I'd lol if Alt announced tonight, just to overshadow blake again

While it stinks that he didn't become a 1st round pick talent like we hoped, it's even worse than he seemily got this disengaged with the program.

I was so excited for him back in HS when he was the "mayor" of the recruiting class and his story about playing for his sister. It just feels like such an anticlimactic finish

Wonder what this says about Rudolph.
Blake’s development or lack there of and then early exit is certainly something that raises an eyebrow.

But I’d say even more so was how bad our IOL was at times this year. Turns out we were playing the wrong C. A conclusion we got too, only because the starter got hurt.

We’ll see if he has answers for the loss of Fisher and Alt but I’m reasonably concerned about it.

Good luck to Blake. I think a spot like Cleveland mid round would be great for him.

Agreed. It’s the heart of the warrior that matters.

We recruited a guy that seemed like he’d run through a brick wall for Notre Dame.

In his exit, it feels much different. Can’t say I feel positive about it.

Wants to dominate at the NFL level but didn’t dominate at the college level. Wonder if he has an uncle in his ear.
JT Tuimolola is predicted to go top 15. He has done very little at college. That DE from Michigan that did nothing but then went top 10 a few years ago. I suppose Fisher has some big plays on tape that he can show the NFL dudes.

Massive difference between that and protecting a franchise qb. One or two mistakes can get your qb killed

I mean if I was an NFL GM I'd be interested in Fisher...as a day 3 pick. If he is an UDFA I'd go running to pick him up. More than that....

Alot of playoff teams will be happy to take him late in the draft.

Matt Freeman had an interesting post after his interview article with Blake. Said there might have been some hesitation about going back to LT.

Fisher has said before switching to LT would not be easy at all for him. TBH some NFL team is gonna ask him to move to guard if he wants to stick in the league he’s gotta follow the example of Robert Hainsey and be flexible and coachable

He's decided to skip the bowl game, possibly missing his last chance to start and play in a football game.

That's wild.

Good luck.

Overall, I think this is not a smart move by Fisher. I hope he succeeds, but I also think he needed another year. This whole "getting the 2nd contract faster" is a massive load of crap. The only potential snag with 1st rounders is that teams can use a 5th year option, but with Fisher, we're not talking going from 2nd to 1st round. We're talking probably 4th-5th to 2nd, potentially low 1st.

Sure, there's the potential of being susceptible to that 5th year option, but you're also looking at a rookie contract that is SUBSTANTIALLY more lucrative than what you're looking at with a 4th or 5th round pick.

That said, I don't think ND is losing much with Fisher moving on. I think he had a lot of potential, but his play at RT left much to be desired. As some have mentioned, he is likely a guard at the next level. It shows.

I'm interested to see what Baker and Wagner have. Both have immense talents and are natural tackles. Baker was very raw and his injury gave rise to Joe Alt. But him playing at 6'8 320, and Wagner closing in on the 300 mark, likely eclipsing it by the start of 2024, you stand to have a solid tandem there. I also hope that Jagusah is given a legitimate shot to compete at tackle if they choose to run the interior of Coogan, Craig and Schrauth into 2024. There's no replacing Joe Alt, but I don't feel the same way with replacing Fisher. I feel RT will be okay.

He should have followed BK to LSU.
Did he seriously carry around a grudge about Freeman's comment that he wanted to "bring in better players"? - I mean it is the key to college football success.
Good to get on with a new unit.

I think they will go with Spindler over Coogan because he is better.
Jagusah - Schrauth - Craig - Spindler - Baker
