Read my posts from 2 years ago when Freeman made certain comments at his hiring speech.
Read my posts last season, midway through the season.
Read my posts earlier this season.

There are a number of dudes from the old regime who aren’t fans of Freeman.

I’m not going over it again.
But starting off your regime by pretty much saying the guys sitting in front of you (who averaged 11 wins a season, had 2 CFPs & another NY6 Bowl), weren’t good enough, your number one priority was to recruit better, probably didn’t sit well with some of them.
Then you go out & look confused. Then lose more games than they ever did.

Some of those dudes are over this regime.
I said it 2 years ago (that some were pissed).
I said it last season.
I said it earlier this season.
Didn't Freeman and Fisher begin at ND at the at the same time?

Get off your high horse or at least make the excuse for a lame post that you've been pounding scotch.

It would be an absolutely dumb decision, but it sounds like he isn't even practicing, or at least that what was reported from their bowl prep.

Definitely look into the portal, but only take a dude who can be a great tackle for ND. Don't just take a guy to take a guy.

At that point, you might as well just let Wagner, Baker, Jagusah and Lambert duke it out for the spots. Sounds like we're gonna see Wagner and Baker starting in the bowl game.

I hope for his sake, he transfers instead of going pro. He isn’t anywhere ready for the NFL. But if he’s dissatisfied at ND, please find another home for growth.

No hard feelings. Want to see him succeed.

We love when guys stay and become a data point for future presentations to players about earnings, improving draft stock, etc.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong but Blake may be one of the negative data points for future guys to consider. All the talent in the world, needs another year after a poor showing in his junior year but will instead give it a shot in the NFL. Maybe a fulltime move to guard in the NFL could help him shore up some weak areas?

It sucks but I'm rooting for him to develop and grow whatever he decides.

Correct me if I'm remembering wrong, but isn't Troy Niklas someone that fits this mold as well? I feel like he was someone who needed another year and could've shot up draft boards. He went second round, but is he even still in the league? Has he done anything?

At least Niklas got drafted in the 2nd round. I think injuries derailed his career (not surprising given his injury problems in college too, so maybe it's a good thing he left early)

Dude Niklas hasn’t even been on a practice squad since 2019

Niklas hung around for four years with Arizona, mostly as a backup. Was hurt some. Was out of the league by 2019.

But yeah there's a number of these sort of cautionary tales of guys who left when they would've been better served to come back. Kevin Austin. Davaris Daniels. All the way back to Darius Walker in the Weis years. Usually not OLs though.

Looking over his page, yeah it looks like he dealt with quite a few injuries and it's probably a good thing he went and got paid while he could.

I hope Blake goes on to be very successful in the NFL, but I think he needed another year in college. Get better, shoot up the boards, get paid more.

Okay, if they don't want an ND degree, next man up.

I think it was Hansen who wrote a piece a few years ago about guys who left early but came back to nd to finish their degrees. Jaylon and Josh Adams were a couple others, iirc.

Walker left b/c he saw what ND was gonna have in 2007.

Good luck to him. I think he’s making a very bad decision for his professional career, but I’m not the one who has to make it.

Always wondered where he would be developmentally if he'd actually started at LT his freshman year as intended.

I think he’s got the talent he just lacked the focus and edge to his game. Got sloppy on some plays.

Imagine having $100 and wanting to turn it into $1000. You invest in the market over a few years, it grows to maybe $700-$800, and you have about one more year until you hit your goal.

Then you suddenly decide to throw it all into some high-risk project where it may pan out for a bit more, but you also have high probability of blanking out. You’ve stayed the course but you just can’t wait one more year.

That’s what many of these kids are deciding to do, except now it’s worse because it’s their future livelihood. Hope I’m wrong, go ball out Blake, but I think an extra year would really benefit here.

Is Wagner still sitting at 290 lbs? Kid needs a little more center mass to anchor down on bull rushes.

Great analogy and that's where I'm at. The only thing I'd add is that the market could tank (injury) and your investment is now worth $50.

I hate to say Napolean complex (especially on someone of his size) but I fear he just suffered from being in the shadow of Joe Alt for too long. And the ironic part is, he could have been the star next year.

Like I said the other day, Kevin Austin redux.
