In a vacuum it would be a very dumb decision. But, Day isn’t a beloved man in Columbus. And, it seems like the general feeling is he needs to win big now or time is running out.
Don’t disagree, but I’m basing this on being his decision to leave voluntarily. I don’t think he leaves unless he’s forced out.

It’s really interesting to play out the scenarios if Day went to NFL or A&M. I think it’s likely the 3 top potential replacements for him at OSU would include the names mentioned (including Freeman). As much as I’m neither for getting rid of him or signing him for 10 years at major guaranteed money, I have to admit I wouldn’t be surprised or disappointed to have another shot at the coaches market.

I think you’re right. OSU’s best chance is a game similar to when they played ND. The one wild card for me is that you know Day & Co have been planning for this game since last year.
Eh. Penn State gave Michigan a pretty close game and while Ohio State may not have the offense of recent years, they do at least HAVE an offense. And mentally they may have an edge over Michigan at this point. That game feels like a tossup.

Either way, Day would be nuts to go to A&M. That doesn't make any sense for him, unless he thinks he's not going to last much longer at Ohio State.

I actually just looked him up the other day. He has made Holy Cross routinely competitive and a contender. One his conference's coach of the year like 3 of the last 4 or something like that. Impressive.
If he is any good, he wont be at Syracuse for long.

His QB Matt Sluka broke a bunch of records and he’s in the portal and likely will be a P5 QB next season

Even though they don't have football, I always initially think of Holy Cross across the street in South Bend, and not Holy Cross in Massachusetts.

Fun fact about Holy Cross (in Mass.): It is NOT run by the CSC.

That’s always a fun part of explaining to people here (in Mass. where I live) how Notre Dame is not a Jesuit school but rather Congregation of the Holy Cross, but not like Holy Cross in Worcester, that’s Jesuit like BC.

I guess my point is, if he loses to Michigan I could see him leaving voluntarily at that point.

I think they had a Heisman finalist back in the 80s or 90s. It was a RB named Gordy Lockbaum IIRC

Fun fact about Holy Cross (at ND): Unless you're talking about the Sisters who run St. Mary's, the name of the order is actually Congregation of Holy Cross (no "the") - it was founded in France in a neighborhood called Sainte-Croix ("Holy Cross"), a suburb near Le Mans, France. The neighborhood is where it gets its name, not the Cross of Christ.

Could make a lot sense (unless he decides to follow Smith to MSU), but OSU has #25 O per ESPN, DJ Uiagalelei still has a COVID option year remaining if he chooses to exercise (since he's a 2020 enrollee - Correct?) and he is current #31 QB per CF Network - He will have 4 yrs under his belt and may very well be ready for the NFL, but how cool would it be that he and Brian Lindgren (OSU OC/QB coach) come to ND in 2024! (And let's not forget OSU kind of in a no-man's land along with WSU)

JMO, but I want no part of DJ U.

He’s a low completion QB. Always has been. Not even Lindgren has been able to get him out of that.

I agree with you. I've watched him enough to know that the 2020 game vs ND is the extreme outlier in his career. He misses wide open throws and the average ND fan will be losing their minds by middle of the 2nd quarter against Texas A&M if DJ was the starter.

With DJ U, you can see some throws that he makes that will make you shake your head in admiration of the arm talent. Then, two plays later, you see a throw that makes you shake your head in utter dismay. The guy is inconsistent from throw to throw.

Yes, agreed when considering all the potential GT QBs that could be available over the coming weeks and, again, he's likely to be high tailing it to the NFL at this point.
