Kirby Smart
Dabo Swinney
Ryan Day
Lincoln Riley
Jimbo Fisher

All their CFP appearances are with the school that gave them their first head coaching job.

Elite programs value quality over experience.
There is no way Kirby, Dabo or Swinney made the CFP in their first year as head coach.
Edit: okay I re read your post and my mistake.

That would be good. OSU could fall apart swoop in on some of their WR and get that Hartline fella (though he is pretty inexperienced).

If Day did end up at A&M, would Ohio State likely pursue Freeman aggressively?
I’m interested in who OSU would pursue if this happened or if day ever moved to the NFL in the next two years. Has freeman showed enough to OSU that they would pursue this early in his career? Go to NFL for a coach? Would be interesting for sure

Ohio State guy, young, good recruiter, can assume a program and keep it in line, they’ve faced him twice (everybody knows they were extremely fortunate to win this year)…I bet he’d get a decent look.

ETA- Freeman or his agent would definitely put feelers out to potentially use it as leverage for more money from ND. However, if so, that would be interesting to see as to how the Freeman — ND relationship (BoT, President, and AD) would evolve.

Would you trade Freeman to OSU if it got you Elko for next season?

Damn. That’s a great question.
For me MF has the coach speak down pat, charming and impressive. Seems great when he has time and can stay on script. But the dumb fuck word salad when things have gone wrong and the deer in the headlights when things are going wrong scares the shit out of me. There is critical thinking but the speed of that is critically important. Also the engineering and problem solving seems to be wanting as well. This whole play action debacle (dare I say play action gate?) is so bad it makes me not just want Parquet fired, but I want him, MF, and Gigli Giggles lined up and triple smacked three stooges style.

Wut??

Mr LSU - Freeman lost 4 games last year, 3 games this year and handed OSU a victory they should not have had. OSU will aim higher as this season was not as expected.

Also, Freeman will use OSU as leverage???

You have been grinding with Brian Kelly too much.

I would think Fickell would be ahead of Freeman. Mike Vrabel may be at the top of the list.

I’m not implying that MF would be Ohio State’s first, second, or maybe even third choice. That said, I do think they (or through MF’s respective agent) would want to have legitimate, sincere discussions. I think he would garner some support there that would at least warrant a healthy discussion amongst Ohio State insiders.

Again, I don’t think he’d get the job — not at this point, but I’m more curious as to how that would play out internally at Notre Dame.

Day would be foolish to go to A&M. There’s very few blue blood programs and recruiting to OSU is much easier.
In a vacuum it would be a very dumb decision. But, Day isn’t a beloved man in Columbus. And, it seems like the general feeling is he needs to win big now or time is running out.

Yeah. If they lose Saturday I definitely think he’ll have one foot out the door or start being pushed out

Day can't handle a fanbase with crazy expectations way beyond reality, hence why TAMU is attractive for him clearly

I don't think OSU beats Michigan. Day is good as gone, to parts unknown.

Sounds great but Ohio St isn't going to fall apart.. They are absolutely stacked & have one of the best recruiting classes coming in. They'll get a big time coach & keep going imo

OSU is the biggest brand in College Football and they are highly committed to winning titles and beating Michigan. Day could be fired at some point soon for winning neither. Bet they miss Urban Meyer now.

I think you’re right. OSU’s best chance is a game similar to when they played ND. The one wild card for me is that you know Day & Co have been planning for this game since last year.
