Mike Yurcich! Big fan, I'd take a look to fill our void.
This guy coached at Ohio State for year, Texas during Covid, then got fired by Coach No Show before his first season without Sean Clifford ended with a quarterback many on this board desperately wanted.

I'm not sure what to think of the guy other than he's the latest name on the OC list at Penn State under this phantasm of a coach.

Franklin has parlayed his winning seasons at Vandy to where he’s at now. It’s funny that in 2012 he voted Bama, UGA & UF ahead of undefeated ND b/c of how tough he believed the SEC was as a conference but didn’t beat one fellow SEC team w/ a winning record. Credit him for what he did at Vandy but also credit the following SEC coaches who were driving their respective teams into a ditch at the time:

Derek Dooley at UT (5-7; 1-7 SEC)
Gene Chizik at Auburn ((3-9; 0-8 SEC)
Joker Phillips at KY (2-10; 0-8 SEC)
Hugh Freeze at Miss (7-6; 3-5 SEC)

I know…it’s Vandy. I already gave him credit. But he wasn’t exactly doing what Ara Parseghian did at NW. Speaking of NW, they beat Vandy that year by 10 pts before Vandy backed out of future games citing scheduling conflicts.

Success at Vandy came at a cost as he left just as a rape investigation was being concluded.

I hope he stays at PSU for decades.

His buyout is nearly $65M. Smart, Fisher and Brian Kelly are the only three who are higher. Signed through 2031.

Great deep dive. I wasn't at all aware of the information provided. I'd rather have good timing in life.

It's kind of wild that this is Franklin's 10th year at Penn State. Vandy was a long time ago.
They've certainly had some good seasons - wikipedia tells me they've somehow won 11 games four times in that span - but just one Big Ten title, no CFP appearances and 4-16 against Ohio State and Michigan.
At some point you either accept being third place in your division or pull the plug and move on. Seems like they plan to accept it for awhile longer?

I'd like a bit more ROI than this if I'm Penn State.

He's signed through 2031 and has the third largest buyout in college football (not that Fisher is fired). They can plan to accept it or plan to pay. Then they have to pay for the guy who comes next.

I should have become an agent.

I'm glad college football is just becoming European soccer. Fast forward 5 more years and at this pace, an 0-3 start is going to get a 1st year coach fired.

Several salads, pounds, ties and scarves to go, my friend. LOL

(It's dated, but I love this meme.)

Honestly, coaching soccer is so incredibly easy compared to coaching "American Football". The time difference it takes in prep isn't even close to each other. With that said, still not an excuse for obesity. It is a very solid Meme though.

this is nuts! He should have been given a couple of years.
He only got the job because Leach got sick/passed when nobody saw it coming. Firing him was a good call, just like PSU made a good call...USC made a good call...Iowa made a good call...Gotta like balls to do the right thing and fast. Maybe Parker scores 20 against WF and finally ND grows a pair.

I follow a couple guys on Twitter who are very good at CFB analytics, and whom various programs contract for coaching search assistance.

Check the date on this tweet.

He was a damn good OC, and will probably end up back with Saban as an analyst. I'd take a blind Jimbo over Parker at this point.

Saban and Fisher went at it pretty good. If fisher went to bama under saban it would show how much saban only cares about winning. We know that, but I would be shocked if he made that move.

That's all Saban should care about, barring objective misconduct.

Brady Hoke will retire at seasons end at San Diego St
Boise State can't like the timing on this.

Zach Arnett was there from 2011-2019. Began as a GA and wound up DC before leaving for Mississippi State.

Good G5 job on paper. Could have some suitors.
