A&M is gonna overpay for someone that will win between 9-11 games each season. It will be the most A&M move ever. Unless they hire Elko. He could turn them into a true juggernaut.

Watch Bobby Petrino take the helm for 3 games and go 3-0. That backup QB they played last night was pretty good.

Only person I’d be worried about is Elko. He turned Duke into a great team. Imagine what he would do at Texas A&M. If I were then Elko would be my first choice

If Elko goes there he we’ll do well. His defenses that proved that. And I don’t think he is Mr. Ego yet.
If Elko goes, Freeman and Chad need to start tampering with Graham Barton and DeWayne Carter and convince them to stay in school an extra year and come to ND.

Firing a staggeringly overpaid coach who couldn’t beat the rival teams his school aspires to be so that you can hired a staggeringly overpaid coach who couldn’t beat the rival teams his old school aspired to be would rock so hard.
Not saying it’s the right hire, but he’s guided a tier two program to I believe top 15 finishes in six of the last eight years (pending this year) and has won multiple NyE 6 bowl games + a conference championship. He is also regarded as a top five recruiter in the business.
As a life long Pennsylvania resident and having multiple PSU grads in my family I understand his shortcomings completely. Head coaches with almost 15 years of data almost always have some type of red flag.
I’m sure there are better candidates out there, just not sure how realistic their buyout / desire to leave their current setup is for A&M.
Of course, I have no idea if Franklin even would want the job over his current setup.

However, Franklin and his agent strategically setup his last contract extension buy out lanaguage for this exact type of scenario.

It’ll be interesting to see who is on their shortlist. I have no inside info but wouldn’t be surprised if they took runs at: Franklin, Elko, MFMF, Lincoln Riley, Kliff Kingsbury.
Elko was certainly highly regarded during his time there. I think the fanbase would like that hire, but I have to assume the boosters that run that program want a “sexier” name then the current Duke head coach who is going to likely finish 7-5 this season.

Wow I never thought with that amount of money left they would be the irresponsible. 😳
Texans aren’t known for being rational when it comes to winning at football. When the SWC existed, every team was based in Texas w/ exception of Arkansas. I believe every one of those teams in Texas incurred probation at one time or another (maybe not Rice?)

They'll want someone sexier than Elko. Look at their last two hires.
IDK why Lanning would leave Oregon for A&M. Oregon's got plenty of money if they choose to spend it, and far more realistic expectations.
Dabo's a weird fit at A&M.
Lane Kiffin would be perfect. Or Franklin if he and Penn State agree to break up. And with either of them, A&M will continue to go 8-4 like they always do.

Lane should regularly deliver TAMU the worst 10-win teams in the country and that might be OK for awhile.

Unless he is willing to evolve on the transfer portal, they won’t offer him.
I always wondered if maybe it was just his arrogance getting in the way on the portal. Not wanting to concede that maybe he wasn't able to recruit a deep enough roster at a particular position. He would have no choice at TAMU

With a new coach and a general buzz about the program they will be dominant in NIL/portal. If they fire Jimbo today they’ll have have first dibs on whoever they want including Meyer etc

You got it. I work with a building full of Aggies who have indicated that the $$ has been there for over a year to get rid of Fisher, and he's been on a short rope all season. TAMU has never been afraid of a super flash hire (Sherrill, Fisher), and there is no end to the financial resources by their donors. Wouldn't be a surprise if Urban rides into town, and the NIL money will continue to flow, especially with UT coming into the SEC.

A more charitable interpretation might be that Dabo values culture and development and players growing into bigger roles over multiple years (kind of like Notre Dame typically has). And that approach worked pretty well for him at Clemson for a long time. It's not how A&M operates, which is why he'd be a bad fit there.

Dabo might evolve his approach at Clemson to better fit the NIL/portal era, but he's not going to do a 180 on it like he'd have to to take the job in College Station.
