You do not underatand how the national trending works on X. It's agnostic to your followers/likes/interests, it's literally most tweeted about hashtags trending world wide. And yesterday in the top 10 were #GoBlue and #Bet. It's unheard of for a CFB game that's not the title to have 2 top topics worldwide.

Uh yeah…so I’m thinking what drove that momentary spike was the posts with those hashtags were driven to all the Michigan alums/fans out there (which there are a lot of) who then retweeted it. So that process of “trending” is not divorced from personal bias. Again, that’s a bad barometer of “public opinion”.

It's a better barometer than anything else you (or anyone) can suggest. ESPN was soaking it up too, showing all the pro athletes from other sports jumping in to support Michigan.
