he doesn't gain anything by sitting either. he's not some big draft prospect and the bowl game is likely his last game ever as a starter. hartman will be lucky if he's drafted at all.
Yeah he does. Preparing for pro days and senior bowl.

Torn ACL = probably not getting drafted

Throwing for 400 yards against LSU in a win = MAYBE moves him up from a 6th to 5th round pick.

I don't see him playing, but the kid seems to love ND so maybe he will. Who knows.

Has there been any ramblings about what stance ND will take when it come to using technology to signal plays in from the sideline for the Bowl Game? Any Bowl that is not a CFP Bowl this season has the go ahead to use helmet technology or wristband technology to signal the plays in. Most of the Bowls are saying that both teams have to agree to use technology in order for it to happen in the game. Just wondering if ND would experiment with it.

Give me LSU. Don’t want to sit through another boring game against SCarolina type

I have no doubt that we'll lose 1 more - maybe 2 (I haven't heard anything regarding Daniels playing this week against Florida). So, it may be a moot point.

That said, a LSU - Notre Dame matchup is at least interesting from a national perspective (that is, of course, key players don't opt out). It's an easy sell with Kelly (Diggs, Bramblett) vs. his former team.

I'd expect the ND student body would get quite the workout ....

With the whole Michigan scandal, why doesn't every university implement this? I can't imagine it being too expensive.

He literally has nothing to gain. 5+ years of film on him. One meaningless bowl game isn't gonna change someone's mind.
Because a lot more people would tune into a bowl game between ND and LSU and he would get a lot of visibility. After the season he has had he might go undrafted. He has shown a ton of regression and a highly watched good game against LSU could very well improve his draft stock

The South Carolina bowl game was one of the most exciting football games I've ever been at. Also, LSU would beat us by 40....I'm not saying that to be funny. Their offense is deadly and they have enough athletes on Def to stop our pitiful offense. 56-17 BK laughs all the way back to LA.

Shit, SH would likely be the #1 pick after facing our defense. Merriweather would also look like Moss out there.

This part would be pretty interesting. Just guessing here, but I would almost expect some ND players that are on the bubble of opting out of a bowl game would play in this one. I don't know that the LSU players would have the same incentive.

LSU Def sucks against Offenses like FSU, Ole Miss, Mizzu, Bama.....Our offense is more similar to Aub who they held to 17. There isn't a snowball chance in hell that ND hangs anything more than 24 on them.

The helmet technology has an issue with the helmet manufacturers stating that any third party changes made to the helmets voids their warranty creating an issue with liability.

The NFL has an agreement in place with their helmet manufacturers.

Ye of little faith. I don’t agree with that

Now you’re stealing my bit (and other ND fans like me) by sandbagging in Holtzian fashion. You know damn well that ND offense couldn’t score on accident vs even a bad LSU game. I mean, did you watch the SC game? ND was so bad on offense (when they didn’t have short fields thanks to the defense) that SC fans & beat writers actually thought the D played well and was a silver lining. So no…Merriwether ain’t looking like MOss vs LSU.

It's not just sitting out a game. It's skipping out on everything from Thanksgiving to New Years. He gets to go home (or wherever) and prep for the draft instead of the bowl opponent.

I tend to agree with Knuckles.

I can see Hartman wanting to start his last collegiate game and go into a bowl game with his teammates. I don't see Hartman being a big time draft prospect. Day 3? UNDFA? Most likely scenario for him. Playing/Sitting a bowl game makes no difference, injury aside. But there's injury risk every day in this sport, so why not ride out with your guys one last time? Just my take.

Notre Dame only ran 49 offensive plays because of running the clock and sc turnovers. we only threw 20 passes. saying the sc defense played ok is false.

it might be williams worst game of his career. sc ran 74 plays for 302 yds, 37 passing 37 rushing. we ran 49 plays for 251 yds, 20 passing 29 rushing. a bit of that was just running into the los to grind down the clock. it was 24 - 6 at halftime and 31 - 13 after 3 quarters.

we aren't auburn level bad on offense. lsu is a .500 ball club at best w/o daniels and would be 4-5 right now looking at the uf game and georgiast to finish the season at .500 because they'll probably lose to a&m. they should name the team after daniels. that guy better get an invite to the heisman ceremony.

Don't care who they play, when and where. My hope is that the practices are used wisely and not a minute is wasted. Get some of the young dudes involved, especially the skill guys on offense.

Agree. Real practice, not half assed bowl prep practice. Live tackling, tempers flaring, real practice. That time is playing with house money at this point.

Why would one game change anything for him at this point

Agreed. On the opposite side, I'm fairly certain L$U will have some "talent" opting out from playing also.

Whether certain players decide to play or opt out is besides the point. Since the inception of the CFB Playoff, bowl games (outside of the CFB Playoff games and a few others) have largely been rendered meaningless. This is one of the few games/matchups that would have some oomph to it. It's an easy sell, and I'd think that both fanbases (and coaches/teams) would likely be more excited and amped to play in this one as opposed to playing other teams.
