Damn. I’m from a diehard NY Giants family but my dad had a huge poster of Dick Butkus in our basement man cave growing up. Rest easy legend.

I never got the impression that Butkus was a nice guy but maybe he softened up a little bit from when he was a teenager (I’m assuming he wasn’t roaming the neighborhood fighting folks after his football career 😊). I met him once at a trade show but he was looking kind of frail by that point in time.

That’s what I understood but he didn’t marry until he was at Illinois. If true, I bet they were engaged or planned to get married so he realized ND wasn’t an option. Just saw a pic of him & Zorich at a Bears game. RIP

Growing up here in the 80s and 90s and supporting this team, he was still an icon. He was done playing five years before I was born but I knew who 51 was by a very early age. Buddy Ryan's guys in the 80s embodied the way Butkus played during his time.

Perspective hits hard now that Walter, Atkins, Sayers and Butkus are gone.

Actor Richard Roundtree, best known for portraying John Shaft in the '70s, passed away yesterday at the age of 81 from pancreatic cancer.

Had a long acting career. Shaft originally was supposed to be a white actor before the director decided to make the change. Proved to be a smart decision. RIP Shaft.
