For some kids, hometown really matters. I think he sees ND putting something special together, but loyalties in-state are tough to break. I wish him well in the process. I appreciate the respect he’s shown ND in the process.
Not to mention he comes from a very small town……a lot is coming at him very fast so I’m sure he is just trying to process it all. Probably another reason why his father is helping to keep the media at bay. Hope in the end he picks the blue/green and gold, the red and white will not look good on him 🤣

This recruitment is going to go to the wire. Sounds like is parents are really trying to keep him home as well. But it also sounds like he is communicating the best he can without showing his cards.

Would be incredible to add him to Staes, Raridon, Evans and Flanagan.

With the way we use TEs, he'll get a chance to play early and make his mark. Does he want to be competing in the open waters of ND TEs or does he want the smaller pond of Nebraska with limited success on the field and at the position? Some guys are just wired to stay in the safer location, closer to home and I can't really fault him for either decision.

That is not accurate. There are countless examples of skill players that had excellent careers despite having poor QB play.
We are talking about TE specifically which is predicated on QB play, not other positions on the field.

It is and it isn't.

Trey McBride, former CSU TE & a 2nd round pick in '22, statistically had a very average QB, yet he produced nearly 1,200 receiving yards in his final year.

Shit, Mayer had Pyne for his last season, and he saved his best season for last.

Ability is always going to be ability.

This program has been over reliant on tight ends in the passing back for two decades. It has to be the easiest sell job ever.

We used 3 TEs in like half our sets vs USC. He saw everything he could possibly see including our best win in 9 years, IMO. Staff did it's job - they couldn't do anymore. Not sure how you're interested enough to cross your commitment and see what you saw, and still say "no" but what do I know.

For what it is worth, guy who works for me is a huge Nebraska fan (was a manager for the football team back when they were good and current season ticket holder now) and also a high school referee in Nebraska. And he’s not feeling very confident at all that Carter sticks to his commitment…. Hopefully, his instincts are correct.

Also, Ainsworth might still be in state but isn’t necessarily local being over 4 hours away from Lincoln. That’s quite the drive.

On a similar note, 8 man is crazy to me but Nebraska also has schools playing 6 man football. My buddy says those 6 man games are nuts…not uncommon to see a teams putting up triple digits. My fat ass would want no part reffing those track meets.

How does he referee games in Nebraska and deliver pizza for Aunt Polly’s at the same time? I call bullshit.

I think the Funchess comparison is actually spot on. Funchess might not have been the pro that he could've been but the talent was there though. There are great talents that bust for many different reasons and there are guys who have decent talent but are great players.
