Thats not just a ND thing. Happens up here with North Dakota State tooND media is concerned about one thing and one thing only - access. So no hard hitting questions from them.
I can't believe this staff won't let him Audible. This staff is cray-cray.Give the guy a break. There’s nothing wrong with Sam that better play calling, a cranked up run game and a little better protection won’t cure.
I don't know about all that but I think Hartman signed up to play in Tommy Rees' offense behind an elite offensive line and he wound up running Gerard Parker's offense behind a line that has not been elite, at least against the better competition. So I'd get it if he's a little thrown.I don't subscribe to any newsletters or watch much of any of these ND media shows, but this kind of resonated with me as I was thinking what is it that has been different about Hartman in the last few weeks and this really hit the nail on the head from this post from the Mike Goolsby Show... Goolsby then laid out exactly why he believes that Sam Hartman is not the solution for this particular Notre Dame football offense: “If the structure of the play isn’t perfect, he’s not going to thrive.” When the play is architected and executed well, Hartman is solid, but when the DL is in his face, he collapses which sounds like our usual issue with ND but I would say our past QBs with issues would panic and run without looking down the field and typically were not accurate, especially on long throws. Hartman to the contrary has good composure in the pocket and get him to move and he'll keep looking downfield, but he when DL are racing towards him, a lot the times, he just tucks the ball and gets sacked and is not elusive which you would think he would be more of. Yes, he did run for that 4th and 16 against Duke, but that's rare for him. And you saw him place some great passes for key pickups towards the end (when ND was too far behind) of Duke game when he had time. Not unusual for most QBs but again, Hartman is either really good when no pressure or really bad when DL are charging at him - There just aren't as many improvisations and rolling out of pressure with him. I also think maybe that was the off thing we noticed Sat night. It was almost like he was astonished that he was getting pummeled and couldn't make a play and was thinking "WTF, this is G-damn, Joe Moore Award-winning ND OL!" All the more reason, G-rad should be rolling him out - I think he would have good success with that. What do you all think?
If I'm Hartman, I'm beyond pissed at how this all worked out. ND was supposed to be his ticket to a shot at the NFL. He put his faith in Freeman and the eventual QB/OC hire -- have to think that was more about Gino than anything, because why would the Parker hire move the needle for Hartman? I hope he gets it figured out, because Hartman was supposed to be the one that showed all others that you can earn, win, AND improve your NFL stock at ND. He might be earning, but he sure as shit isn't winning anymore and I can't imagine his stock is headed up...I don't know about all that but I think Hartman signed up to play in Tommy Rees' offense behind an elite offensive line and he wound up running Gerard Parker's offense behind a line that has not been elite, at least against the better competition. That said, the dude has played a ton of football and faced a lot of adversity and he needs to get over that and step up and be a leader if we're going to salvage this season.
Agree. He's kinda showing that body language during the games. I don't see him being the leader I expected when i attended the games. I didn't put much thought into it until louisville. But at duke he warmed up by himself infront of the student section (that's opposite side of where ND was warming up). At duke before the game I thought it was Bad Ass because the students were giving him hell, and he wasn't even flinching. I thought it was saying, we're here, and we're about to dominate (not the case). During the game he was always on the sideline by himself. Never went to zeke despite zeke having a world of issues. Maybe he has covid? It was during every time out... If there is an explanation for it, I would love to know.
Not buying it. He was doing fine until the last couple of games. Tennesse won the natty the year after Manning leftIf I’m a Notre Dame fan, I’m beyond pissed at how all this worked out. Hartman was supposed to be our ticket to a shot at a national championship. We put our faith in Hartman and the eventual development of the passing game…
Definitely part of it…. But it’s on the coaches to know who you are playing with. They had Tobias in the box to block on some short yardage situations. Just stupid. They had Rico being our go route 1-1 man press beater. They had raridon in instead of Evans in some critical plays to block. Guy hasn’t played in over a year off a major injury.Maybe a lot of factors played into the Duke game and UL game. The key component here is we aren't healthy at WR so maybe that's limiting our playcalls. Thomas, Colzie, and Greathouse and pretty good blocking WR's the rest of the WR's not so much. We were missing all 3 against Duke and Thomas and Greathouse barely played against UL.

Even when Greathouse was getting some catches early on, his snap count was very low. My impression was that he was NOT a very good blocker and that's why he wasn't getting snaps.Maybe a lot of factors played into the Duke game and UL game. Thomas had like 36 plays
Since plays happen fast and you can rarely see the WR past the first 5 yards, I always wondered if it'd be cool if the programming added a small box on the bottom of the screen showing what skill players were in for the current play. Those snap counts for Faison and Greathouse look off. I never saw Faison after the TD and barely saw Greathouse. We’re they ever targeted?
