Just a thought… It would be an unpopular move to many, but starting Minchey or Angeli after the USC game (if we lose) could be what’s best for the future. Also, I’d play Bowen, Ziegler, Jagusah, Vernon, and James. Sam could focus on the draft and finish up his career vs USC, assuming a loss. With a win I think you play him all season and shoot for 10-2. He’s already played as much football as Tom Brady. He’s not going to show anything we haven’t seen. He risks injury only. I know Freeman wants to go 10-2, but if we get thumped by USC, what’s the point in playing Hartman? What does that due for the development of the team and preparation for TAMU?

This would be quitting on the season and the team would recognize that. Good luck winning a single game after.

You also don't disrespect your talented transfer when you're going to need to keep recruiting transfer QBs in the future. Terrible message to send.

Sam seemed to be upset with himself last night after his first interception, I noticed when they showed him on the sidelines he mostly sat by himself. At one point one of the lineman came up to him.

I think Sam wants to win and he has put himself out there for the offense; Sam needs some support on offense.
Sam didn't play very well last nite.

I was at the game last night, unfortunately, and Sam was never in the offensive huddle during media & on the field time outs. He stood by himself, five-ten yards outside of the huddle each and every time, from the beginning of the game to the end of the game. I sensed a real disconnection between him and the coaches/players.

I agree, I think there was a disconnection between Sam and the rest of the team. He didn't seem like himself. I saw our QB coach say something to him on the sidelines and Sam just put on his helmet.

Baloney. Not the QBs job. The coaches come to you to discuss "QB offensive plan" stuff. If the staff is not communicating with Sam, that's on them. He is supposed to be on his job 100% of his off-field time. This sort of communication is mainly cerebral, not a pep rally.

That’s an interesting way to wave away the fact that the QB was the only player not in the offensive huddle with other players and coaches whenever he was on the sidelines.

I didn’t notice it, and you would think the broadcast might’ve shown it, but if it’s true, it’s kind of a “smoke = fire” situation. Even if Sam doesn’t need further instruction, there is zero reason for the offense’s leader to be isolating himself, instead of being in the huddle to (at the very least) encourage his teammates or provide further communication between plays/drives.

I was six rows behind our bench... Sam was not in one huddle last night, throughout the entire game, when the whole offensive staff & players were all huddled up during media/on the field timeouts. He was five-ten yards away, outside of the huddle. I wish I would have taken a picture... It was very concerning to see.

Was he not talking to Gino a lot… I assumed he was talking to Parker through Gino, because I saw this at duke and nc state

It certainly looks weird. There could be an explanation for it I just don’t know what it is.

Not condoning his actions for not being in the huddle, but think about the whirlwind Sam has gone through when he committed to us. Correct me if I am wrong, but Tommy Rees was vital in getting Sam, as I believe there is a relationship between Tommy's dad and Sam's dad. Regardless, he commits to ND in January expecting Tommy Rees will be our OC, but then a month later Rees flees to Tuscaloosa. I am sure communication was made with Sam about getting a solid/highly touted OC as a replacement. Then the whole Ludwig shitstorm happens, which is then followed by the premature promotion of Gerad Parker as OC. In a sense, I feel for Sam. Such high expectations that started in January when he committed. He is arguably a top 5 quarterback in the country and has a offensive coordinator who is completely clueless/helpless. It is not even mid-October and we are already eliminated from the College Football Playoff.

In my opinion, if Sam knew that Gerad Parker was going to be his OC at Notre Dame for his last and final season of college football, he would have passed on ND and either went somewhere else or announed for the NFL Draft.

He is not a top 5 Qb. His awareness, his passing and his decision making is not as good as I though it was when he came here.

It’s partly a testament to the depth of this year’s QB class but the mock drafts and QB rankings I’ve seen generally have him between 10th and 15th best NFL QB prospect for ‘24. He’s not especially big or athletic, he doesn’t have a huge arm, he threw a fair number of picks at Wake, which some attribute to their system or playing from behind alot.
What he is is a very smart and experienced college quarterback. And he’s been that for us.

IDK what’s going on there with the huddle stuff. But I doubt he went from pulling victory out of his ass at Duke to quitting on the team - which seems to be the implication? - in the span of less than one game. It may be that QBs already know what’s going on? Not sure. I note that Minchey was also not in the huddle (tho he wasn’t gonna be on the field regardless).

He was at best a 5th round pick and he wasn’t going to be a starter.

I said arguably... and before the Louisville game, he had 14 TDs and 0 INTs and was in the top 6 for QBR... and that is with an OC that has shown zero ability to call an offense, a regressing offensive line, and a banged up / shortage wide receiving core. Sam has not been perfect this year, don't get me wrong, but he has had almost the same support, if not worst (offensive coordinator) than he did at Wake Forest.

And it proved that our first 4 games we due to the lack of competition. Although NC St actually playing the ville tough.

Not even close. He is limited physically but has good composure. He probably won’t get drafted.

Yes, he normally talks to Gino and the other QBs when he's on the sideline. There might be times when there is a full offensive huddle on the sidelines but normally they are separated into their position groups. In the picture above, there are 2 other QBs also not in the huge huddle. I don't think there is anything abnormal going on.

Was Freeman asked about Sam and why he was not in the huddle at any point on Saturday night?
