It’s totally fine. What really matters is that Jack helped out the company that his son worked for.UA day late and dollar short. So fucking on brand
agree 100% but there needed to be improvements from coaching and execution from OSU to Duke with our clear abomination of a finish vs OSUFreeman throwing assistant coaches under the bus sends a clear signal to not only the players but the assistant coaches both current and prospective, so I'm glad he's not doing it publicly in these pressers. Behind closed doors, people gotta get chewed out. That's different, though. If I'm an assistant coach out there with an eye on Notre Dame and I see Marcus Freeman push a defensive coach over the cliff for having ten players on the field or call out play calling, then I know exactly what I'd be getting into if I decide to go work for that guy. Protect the players and protect your assistants. Absorb the blowback and carry the shit because you're the head coach.
This. Also fans bitching and moaning because MF didn't answer PC questions to their liking. lolFreeman throwing assistant coaches under the bus sends a clear signal to not only the players but the assistant coaches both current and prospective, so I'm glad he's not doing it publicly in these pressers. Reminds me of 2016 level coaching. People defending kelly for not blaming BVG, then finally jack forced kelly to fire BVG and improvements begun. Same thing here.This. Also fans bitching and moaning because MF didn't answer PC questions to their liking. lol
Agree. I do think he has to balance this with perception as reality, however. He and others may not think the perception of the fan base matters, but it certainly does. It’s the stadium boos, game day signs, angry donors and alum, rippings on social media by fans, less merchandise sales of the “freeman line”, lower priced tickets for USC, marshmallows thrown at the players (I witnessed that from the stands years ago), etc etc. that gets into recruits ears, hits pocket books, pressures the admin, and ultimately gets coaches canned. I don’t know for certain where the fans stand, but I’d guess it’s about 90% that want Parker out. Things are already ugly, a big loss to USC and to many fans, the sky is falling.Freeman throwing assistant coaches under the bus sends a clear signal to not only the players but the assistant coaches both current and prospective, so I'm glad he's not doing it publicly in these pressers. I think there's a lag for those effects. If fans lose their enthusiasm for the program's direction it won't be apparent until they start trying to sell the 2024 tickets. Being 1st in line for a long, national search is an elite move. Timing is more important than ppl realize.Reminds me of 2016 level coaching. People defending kelly for not blaming BVG, then finally jack forced kelly to fire BVG and improvements begun. Same thing here.
People aren't pissed that freeman didn't answer questions the way most want, we all knew he wouldn't. It's an opportunity to complain again about what WE all know. Parker was a terrible hire, is doing a terrible job, and he should be demoted immediately allowing for a national search to begin.
Yep, it's why we got hartman. Freeman made a great move to say, hey, i'm letting the college world know, we're looking for a portal QB right after season ended. He didn't wait until after the bowl game like most teams did. You know that would put you at risk of losing someone quickly, and we did lose pyne right away. Great move by freeman there, need to do it again!Being 1st in line for a long, national search is an elite move. Timing is more important than ppl realize.
Yeah, if they show improvement, great, but if i'm a QB or WR recruit i'm wanting to know what the offensive plan is for when i'm coming or why i should come. I expected this year our passing game to take off, nope.If Freeman wants to make a change at OC, he should have options available to him. It's still Notre Dame.
Still about half of the season left to play. See what happens. Remain in contact with recruits and let them know they're needed. Hopefully they have admins in the football office keeping tabs on guys for the portal and such.
Timing is also how we got stuck with Parker. We were at the back of the line in last year’s OC cycle.Being 1st in line for a long, national search is an elite move. Timing is more important than ppl realize.
Unless that replacement has a 400g buyout, that’s to much.If Freeman wants to make a change at OC, he should have options available to him. It's still Notre Dame.

So if they did a Sean Lewis type hire, Jason Candle's buyout with Toledo is $750K if ND wanted to hire him as OC. So the answer there is probably no.Unless that replacement has a 400g buyout, that’s to much.
That was 100% on Jack and the admin. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Ludwig was coming until ND stuck a stick in its own wheels...Timing is also how we got stuck with Parker. We were at the back of the line in last year’s OC cycle.
I blame the admin for not landing Ludwig, but it's Freeman's fault for not having a better support system in place on offense. If he didn't hire an experienced OC, then he 100% should have hired an experienced analyst. How many total years of OC experience exists on the staff right now? Two or three including the QB coach? Brutal. But is there a action MFMF can take now before a potential OC change later this year like bringing in someone who could advise but also who is not currently employed (why I think we mentioned Scott Frost despite what many think of him); then if it still falls apart, we still make the OC fire and hire after the season ends. It would be a shame to continue as is and potentially see the season tank.
Yeah Freeman can use his infinite offensive knowledge and fix the offense. For all his success, Kelly was/is a hell of a coach and could usually coach up the coaches mid stream. But is there a action MFMF can take now before a potential OC change later this year like bringing in someone who could advise but also who is not currently employed (why I think we mentioned Scott Frost despite what many think of him); then if it still falls apart, we still make the OC fire and hire after the season ends. I mean, MF probably thought (after Ludwig was gone) that keeping the playbook the players already knew coupled with a new QB-only coach was best for 2023. Hindsight is always 2020 but I see why he did it if he believed in Porker.I blame the admin for not having Ludwig, but it's Freeman's fault for not having a better support system in place on offense. And again, that's fine. I understand the reasoning there, even though I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. However, if you're going to elevate someone with little to no experience at such a critical position, why was there no additional support staff brought in? Someone for him to bounce ideas off of or someone to self-scout, since this staff seemingly is incapable of doing so.I mean, MF probably thought (after Ludwig was gone) that keeping the playbook the players already knew coupled with a new QB-only coach was best for 2023. If we hired an experienced OC, it's a playbook change and MF probably saw that as a risk too. Just playing (Freeman) advocate lol.
He tried. The admin tripped over itself in the process. So here we are. As to where we'd be? 6-1 at worst, but likely 7-0 and on the fast track to a CFP appearance.I do wonder where this team would be if Freeman hired the offensive coordinator version of Al Golden. I think it’s what he needed more than anything last year. That’s not to rehash old debates about Tommy, that situation is what it is.
