Haha, internet tough guys
He is part of the jock sniffing pre school bunch that shows up after a tough win to call us all losers for emoting in the game day thread. Most of which I have cordially invited to eat a dick but unfortunately they are such professionals at it that they swallow up quick are right back to playing thought police and karen on the rest of us. But guess its just because you me and the other 80% of the board obviously never played organized sports.

Audric finished the game and put it away for us. At least one lesson was learned from last week.

I don’t go back in re-watch anymore but live I felt like we had some good initial blocking upfront but those damn plays took so long to get off.

All they needed to do, which they did early in the season, was get Hartman under C so Estime could get downhill sooner.
I was so confused when we came out in shotgun, again and again. Missing 2 receivers does not excuse how flawed the offensive game plan was. And Porker made zero adjustments.

- ND covered the spread on the road against a top 20 team; they aren’t dropping in the polls.

- While I think the dog piling on Tobias is becoming a bit much, he doesn’t seem to run any other route then a go; maybe a deep slant? He’s got a make or break summer ahead of him. Like Watts, maybe a position change is in order.

- The offensive play calling is incredibly disappointing. GP is not calling or creating plays that set the offense up for success. Of all the big plays this season, look how hard the players have had to play just to make a bland call explosive.

- I really wish Al Golden would stop calling these delayed safety blitzes. The one towards the end when he sent DJ Brown was hard to watch.

- Mitchell Evans

- Glad to see Sam Hartman’s running ability show up; even if it’s one week too late.

- I have no idea how someone as big as Estime can fit through those holes but my goodness is he special.

- 7 targets to Rico Flores seemed a bit much. Would like to have seen more targets to Mitch Evans.

- Howard Cross and Rylie Mills were outstanding. A week after JJB, the DL seems to be stepping up.

- The refs..my goodness. Targeting? The overturned punt? The Tobias OPI? The non-call on that throw to Tobias? I know officiating across all major sports is horrible but my word was this one of the worst officiated games in recent memory.

- I still think MF is the guy. We see why it’s seldom a good idea to hire an inexperienced HC for the role. It’s clear the players play hard for him. Despite asking Al Golden to pack his bags, I can live with him at DC. I cannot do another year of GP at OC though. The thought of GP being OC for Angeli, Minchey, Carr, or Knight is not great.

- On to the next.

What we are seeing on the coaching staff is an inexperienced head coach make mistakes with both of his coordinators, for different reasons, and the looming, career-defining decision on whether he finally bites the bullet and finds better options. It's hard to do mid-season, but MFMF needs to make the hard choices as soon as the season is over.

If he stays loyal to them, he won't summit the mountain. If he makes the changes he needs to make, then we know we have the ball coach that this team has been needing for a long time.

I am at a conference and couldn't watch the whole game live. Gutsy win on the road though for the boys. Go Irish.

Duke is clearly a very limited team that punches above their weight class with Elko.

8-4 seemed about right for them, but if their backup QB sucks, that could easily be 5-7. They have some tough games left.

Had to go to bed to catch a flight at 6am at the start of the 4th. Fully expected to wake up to a loss, but was pleasantly surprised to see they come back and grinded it out. Just like to thank BK and Del for the WR room we have. We all knew if we had injuries we be in a world of shit and last night was that night without Colzie, Thomas, and Greathouse. I haven't kept up on the freshman, but what's up with Braylon James? I though he'd prolly see the field more than Rico in year 1. All in all...sloppy and bad play calling but a win on the road after a heartbreak against a ranked team I'll take any day

Cam Williams can’t get her soon enough. I’m even more disappointed in our wrs, they aren’t very good

Parker has no clue how to adjust

I assume he thought we could and should be able to run ball up the middle but when your interior oline plays that bad you have to adjust. Duke played us like nc state and shot gaps, run blitzes, etc to stop run, they just didn’t have a couple coverage busts

Golden has a base package nickel and if another team starts to exploit it ( duke was pulling two olinemen) he has no adjustment. This team can’t play complete zone, don’t call it on third and long ever again until they can.

I think Sam learned from last week running out of bounds on that 4th down run they called back. His run in the 1st half where he lowered his shoulder.....I almost pooped my pants a bit hoping he didn't get hurt...lol

Yes on the 1st, maybe on the 2nd. They have *got* to clean up the penalties and missed tackles. That is killing them and is on Freeman, IMO.

We won. Great. Sincerely great. Never want to see our guys lose.

Winning is hard. True.

But, this team has serious issues. From the top down. There's a ton to cleanup and improve on if they are going to have a chance to run the table.

No one likes Duke except Duke grads. They attract all the elites from the Northeast who think it’s cool to go to a southern school. Duke is the Myrtle Beach of academic schools.

I agree with the first portion. Tulane is the same - predominately Jewish, Northeastern kids who couldn't get into an Ivy. However, Duke's a very, very good school - I'd say it's the best in the South, and I have a graduate degree from Vanderbilt. Duke, Vanderbilt, Emory (Rice if you include Texas as "the South") are your top schools in the South.

ETA: Not that it truly means anything other than an expensive piece of paper to hand in the wall.

I was honestly very disappointed in ND this game. I thought that they'd come out and play like a team possessed. I very much thought this would be a statement game for them after the Ohio State debacle.

Well, they made their statement...it just wasn't what I thought it would be. They were unprepared and lackadaisical...MF did not have his team ready to play, and they were straight getting pushed around in the 4th. Under no circumstances should Duke be asserting its will on Notre Dame in a football game. Glad to get the win, but it was very disappointing to see.

This team was not ready to play.

Golden is not the problem. Sure the defense isn't perfect, and for sure I' not thrilled with the tackling, but the defense is much improved this year. Parker started off strong, and I still wasn't upset with how he called the OSU game, just too mnay player mistakes, but he was unimpressive tonight for sure.

Negatives:

Counter trey can work against teams that are aggressively rushing up field, but a team aggressively squeezing down the line and beating you to your spots on pulls it will not. Parker should know the difference and make a change in run play calls. He kept calling it like he expected it to eventually hit big but we’re here struggling just to get first downs and get our defense off the field. They were most definitely gassed by the start of the 4th because they were out there saving our ass the whole game and the tackling started to show for it. I blame our late game defensive woes squarely on Parker.

I hate having a kicker we can’t trust to hit chip shots. I don’t give a shit he can hit bombs. Glad Audric snatched the game from his hands (feet?).

We definitely earned our share of penalties, but it’s pretty awful when I’m making outlandish claims because the way the game had gone like “I bet they pick up the PI flag” and lo and behold. And a review booth that doesn’t even know what they can review and clearly has no grounds to overturn the call on the field? *insert Jackie Chan confused face*

Some positives?

- Mitchell Evans? Dog.
- Sam Hartman? Dog.
- Jeremiah Love? Dog.
- Audric Estime? Still a dog.
- Xavier Watts? Dude is a dog.
- Howard Cross? The Third? Dog.

Refs and an entire network slobbing on Duke, injuries, and bad play calling on offense couldn’t stop these boys from walking into Duke’s Cinderella superbowl and driving a dagger through their heart.

As always, remember that winning ain’t easy. And we got the W. Go Irish!

The reality is the team played great football for 2 and a half quarters. Once we went up 13-0, I don't know what happened. Great to see us pull it out.
It was comical the first four game when the refs were as bad as they were, but now it's not. It's upsetting. It's so clear they are trying to do everything they can to help us lose. It needs to stop. Someone needs to be held accountable. Ron Powlus, needs to get on a plane and light up the whole ACC conference.

Tackling needs to improve. Missed tackles or going to happen, but way too many of the tackles are missed because of poor technique.

Penalties need to improve. There is no reason in the sixth game of the season to be lining up offsides on the defensive side of the ball.

We need our receivers to get back healthy ASAP. We were severely limited today on offense.

Parker has been horrendous for the last 5 quarters, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt until he has a stable of healthy receivers, which will hopefully be this week against Louisville. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Greathouse has been the second best receiver this year, so down the top two guys at that position really limits them. As frustrating as the repetitive runs are, there were at least 4 drops last night that would have us feeling a bit differently about the game had they not occurred.

With that said, if I ever see a designed Hartman roll out to his weak side and the short side of the field again, I will personally fire him

I don't agree. I know we are piling on Tobias but I thought he was trying hard to get to it.

Agree. Picking up the flag was insane. The refs let Elko decide that.

Also the OPI on Tobias was another terrible call. If that’s OPI, then it happens on just about every pass play. Not catching it on the other hand was bad.

Prister in the Irish illustrated instant analysis said he heard Zeke correll say that was his worst game he’s ever played. At least he is self-aware!
