We're already a quarter of the way through the season??
This is an alarming realization... but at least we're being rewarded with the first true BLOCKBUSTER weekend of the season.
scUM might finally get tested by a plucky Rutgers squad. FSU visits Clemson. My Bearcats open Big XII play by hosting Oklahoma. And that's just the noon slate!
The real action kicks into high gear starting with the afternoon window. We have TWO great PAC12 (RIP) matchups and an SEC banger, followed by some duds that might at least provide decent commercial-break entertainment.
Then the late window... IT'S TIME FOR THE IRISH TO LET THE WORLD KNOW.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 22
- Wisconsin started slow against Buffalo, lost convincingly on the road at WSU, then started slow again against Georgia Southern. They can't start slow against Hudson Card and Purdue, who are 1-2 but competitive.
- NC State should roll against Virginia, who is not good. Need the Wolfpack to keep winning to added to ND's SOS.
- NIGHT CAP #1 as Boise State is a road favorite at San Diego State. Meh, but football is on.
- FS1 DOUBLE-HEADER as Wiscy/Purdue leads into a thrilling MWC battle. Classic Grind-It-Out vs Air-It-Out here. Could be a fun one to fall asleep to.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 - START STRONG
- Rutgers doesn't let opponents run the ball. scUM NEEDS to run the ball. Do the Skunkbears finally get tested?
- FSU survived an upset bid by BC last week (really, BC flat blew it with penalties). They need to wake up, or else we'll all be victim to hearing how Dabo has his guys back on track, which would be annoying.
- GO BEARCATS. BEAT SOONERS. My Bearcats open Big XII play by hosting one of the outgoing heavyweights. Idk if they can win, and I'm PISSED that this isn't a Nip At Night situation, but still have irrationally high hopes after Cincy's debacle last week.
- UPSET ALERT: Auburn might be decent with transfer Payton Thorne at QB. This will be a good test, as Texas A&M has talent, but is a classic underwhelming Jimbo squad in general. I like Auburn to win and start an irrational hype fest on college football programming.
- I like watching Kentucky, and Devin Leary was a guy that could have picked ND if Tommy hadn't shot him down for injury concerns. I also like watching Clark Lea's Vandy squad. A fun one to just tune in and enjoy (as long as it's not a boring, sloppy SEC affair, which it could be).
SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 - PACE YOURSELF, IF YOU CAN
- A TRUE TEST FOR THE BUFFS. I'm excited for this one. Deion pulls off a lot in addition to apparently being a pretty damn good coach. He still has time to talk to the media, podcast with his kids, roast his kids on social media, etc. He gets a little **too** much love, and Oregon might very well blow them out. But I'll be watching, along with the rest of the country.
- It's time for us to take some collective medicine. If you've got two screens, turn one to Fox where we can watch Dante Moore continue to look great right out of the gate as a freshman. THOUGHT EXPERIMENT: Knowing what we know now... would you prefer if Dante had gone public with his ND commitment and stuck, knowing you'd have the guy for three years (pending NIL), or is everyone still all-in on Sam Heisman as a one-year deal?
- Kiffin is at the top of his trolling game right now. Outed Bama for making a secret DC switch, forcing Saban to address it and lie to everyone, making shit super awkward in the Bama meeting rooms, I'm sure. Tommy Rees under fire. I hope Ole Miss runs away with it. The wheels coming off the Bama rails would be spectacular.
- Only three highlighted, as the rest is meh. Fill in the games of your own interest if you wish!
SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 - RALLY, SONS OF NOTRE DAME
- GO IRISH. BEAT BUCKEYES. Run the ball. Throw it deep. Keep them off balance. Harass their new QB. BenMo and Hart need to rise to the challenge and prevent back-breaking plays by MHJ and Egbuka. Win the turnover battle. LEAVE NO DOUBT.
- BK hosts Arkansas. A heavy favorite hosting a team that was supposed to be better than they have been. Upset alert?
- Where's @Luckylucci 's boy at?? Big matchup all of a sudden, as DJU is on track for the Beavers, while WSU is a surprise unbeaten with a legit early resume.
- Tejas visits the Bears, who are trying to claw their way back to being competitive after an injury-hampered 1-2 start. Decent commercial break fodder.
- That is a BIG line for the way Iowa is capable of turning any game into a slogging, heaping pile of shit. If PSU covers, it's because Allar and Singleton have officially broken out, and because PSU is legit.
- Playing with fire here the same night ND plays OSU, but UNC visits Phil "Under Fire" Jurkovec. If Pitt keeps marching him out there, the doses of schadenfreude may very well continue.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 - VICTORIOUS COOLDOWN
- It's 11:15 PM on Saturday night. Notre Dame has just finished a convincing victory over Ohio State, staking their claim as a top-4 team. You're feeling great, a little tipsy with the 4th-quarter victory beers, and now a game is on that you're not really paying attention to. It's USC waxing ASU, but you don't care. "Notre Dame is gonna beat that ass" you say in passing, no longer worried about the Trojans and Caleb Williams.
- Cal is not great. Washington's offense is prolific. I'm taking the Huskies to cover.
