I help another guy coach my son’s peewee football team. I helped last year, too, when my son was in kindergarten. The team is K-2, and we split the field with the older kids on one side, the K/1st graders on the other.

I helped line up the linemen every play for the younger guys last year, but this year I’m running the show, which means coaching the QB’s and RB’s and calling the plays. Idk if any of you guys have experience coaching tackle football, but teaching 5 and 6 year olds to take a snap, and use proper footwork to execute different handoffs, while teaching the running backs proper timing and what to do when they aren’t getting the ball, is NOT easy.

And we only had two weeks of practice to get ready for our first game, one of which we didn’t have equipment for. And we had so many of the younger group on vacation this week, we didn’t even get to teach our kids a full defensive alignment.

So today was our first game, and I expected disaster… instead, we held the other team to zero touchdowns and maybe 40 total yards, and scored 8 or 9 touchdowns on offense. Our quarterback housed two QB sweeps, our two fullbacks both scored long touchdowns on dive plays (we run only out of wishbone right now, will add I-wing later in the season), and our deep backs all scored.

My son is on the line, had three or four pancakes from what the line coach told me, and he had a few tackles for loss at DT lol.

Proud as a dad and a coach, just wanted share. It feels good to see good returns so early, and to know that a bunch of young kids are already dedicated and listening so well!

This is awesome!

I can attest with a son in 3rd grade PeeWee that it's like herding cats when it comes to teaching the game and practice. It's no easy feat to get the kids to focus and learn. I've helped out a bit at practices, but only as an extra body as we're maxed on assistants.

The sweeps, reverses, and outside runs are there all day if you have a speedy kid in K/1st grade, but the kids got a lot faster and bigger in 2nd grade and our guys struggled to get free last season. We're focusing on better blocking and running between the tackles in 3rd grade this year as a result. A lot of our coaches were pretty new last season too, and running those same plays from K/1st didn't fly. We've got a grandpa with 25 years of PeeWee coaching experience that's helping run practices this year, his last team went to the PeeWee Super Bowl. I've already seen improvement.

Can't believe you guys have already played a game, we've just had non-pad practices this last week!

Awesome. Seeing the kids faces when they score a TD is priceless. I did it for 13 years and Loved every minute of it.

I started with twin boys. My wife and I are both 6’2”, so I was banking on genetics coming into play. I was right. They are only 6 and both over 4’7” and over 60lbs.
Purely anecdotal b/c I’ve never researched it but it seems like a son’s height comes from the mom’s side. I’ve seen short-to-average height fathers have taller than avg sons only to find out that their wives are taller than average. Got a buddy that’s 6’2” but his wife is like 5’3” and his first son is 18 and hasn’t hit 6’.

I’m happy to be the anomaly cause my mom is 5’1”.

Yeah Dodger, your buddy may be the exception. My dad is 6'4", mom is 5'3", and my brother and I are both 6'2"+ while my sister is about 5'8". My wife is also around 5'4" and my sons are both in the 99th percentile in height. My youngest is projected to be 6'6".

Guessing children's height and watching H/W percentages is a fools errand. They'll be what they'll grow into. It's who they'll be that matters.

I'm 6'4" and my wife is 5'4". Oldest son and daughter are both 90th percentile in height. My two younger sons are in the 40th percentile so it looks like they'll be manlets.

Me: If you could get NIL deals in college who would you want to have pay you?

My 8 year old daughter, who plays club soccer: Target and Chipotle.

Me: That's it?

Her: Would I need anything else?

My 7yo and 5yo would both be in full agreement... these kids know what they like lol

It was a total suburban white girl response. Shocked she left out Stanley Mugs and Adidas.

Please share your secret. Really. Please. My wife and youngest think Starbucks is one of the four basic food groups.
My wife swore off caffeine, so if you're drinking decaf coffee, do it for a third of the price. With the money you save, you can get a Stanley Mug. I just want the caffeine so I don't care what kind of coffee I drink.

The kids were easy: the food and the donuts.

The Dunkin is also closer, about a mile from our house.

Now the bad news: The Dunkin one mile from our house will be getting neighbors in the strip mall next to the Menards: a fucking Starbucks.
