That ship has sailed, although I’m partly convinced he still is here under a different screen name that was created before Forkbeard.

I’m here. I said I’d bow out given how irrationally riled up some would get over certain posts.

Regarding the game:

-I hated going for it twice in the first half. You’re on the road, take the points. I knew it was over then.
-FSU was considerably more physical than we were. Only our defensive line, which was missing its best player, played hard.
-Daniels is who he is. An average, extremely conservative passer that’s lightning fast. Myself and about 1/2 the fan base have wanted Nuss to be the starting QB since last year. Much, much, much better passer.
-Our running game is abysmal. Our o-line run blocking was abysmal. Their defensive line was incredible.
-You all know this, but Kelly’s offense is shit inside the 10 or 5.
-This is arguably our worst secondary in decades (2020 included). I previously raised that to another IE poster here regarding this game. Our secondary does not matchup, at all, to their WRs. Was #14 Mike Evans?
-Kelly looked like a washed out, alcoholic last night. He looked rough.
-Very small sample size, but I’m not convinced Perkins playing inside is working. Neutralizes his natural abilities.
-I still like House. We’ve got some glaring weaknesses in the secondary. Denbrock isn’t the guy, though.
-This may surprise you, but rational LSUs aren’t shocked. Shit, one of our radio guys predicted FSU to win — it just wasn’t a good matchup, and FSU showed that.
-I know the defense was gassed in the second, but disappointing to see them quit.
-They were simply the better team at all phases. Much better coached, too.
-One of my initial posts on IE was that a very considerably size of the fan base did not like the Kelly hire. From what I can tell, last night didn’t help things. :lol:
-Sept 23 is a huge week: Ohio State @ ND, FSU @ Clemson.

We’ll press on. Geaux Tigers and Go Irish.

Also, I’ll still be at the ND game this year. Given last night, if you see a guy that’s 6’4, 225lbs of bad weight, with reddish, brown hair and shocking, full beard, 😂that’s a Kevin Galloway clone (check out his music if you aren’t familiar),buy me a beer. Go Irish

The amount of ND fans on Twitter posting about BK is wild. I don’t get why people care so much. It’s kind of embarrassing how many ND fans are still obsessed with BK.

Still pissed at the way he left. Very unprofessional. If he really respected ND and the opportunity he was given, he would have done it differently.

White Knight #1 checking in, unsure how someone could care about something they personally don’t.

I kind of enjoyed that arms crossed, distant stare that indicates things are going badly and I have no idea how to stop it and need to figure out a way to blame others look BK had. Especially when he’s coaching someone else.

Obviously there’s a long season yet to go but I will be interested to watch if he can keep his team bought in at a program where the job for so many players is basically “CFP or start preparing yourself for the draft.” Because CFP just got a whole lot harder.

Probably the thing that impressed me most about Freeman last year was how he kept our team bought in after the bad losses. That was not always a BK specialty here, and I’d imagine it may be harder at LSU.

Not that it makes any difference (since my team was not involved) but I watched most of the game and got somewhat different impressions.
A. Both teams are loaded with high octane speed and physical people; I thought LSU slightly more so;
B. Both teams seem like potential turnover or at least mistake machines, and the LSU QB like a shiny race car that you can't really depend upon for a full season's worth of races;
C. LSU outplayed FSU (I'd say significantly) in the first half, and with the exception of frequent boneheads (dropped passes especially) would have scored about 30 on FSU that half. The game inverted in the second half and I think Coach may be boggled at that collapse. At Notre Dame his teams might lose a game in the second half, but I don't recall many where we outplayed the other guys in the first half and then lost "going away"; (Are they not in shape? Or are they not mentally tough?)
D. I kept expecting the last year's defensive phenom (#4?) to do something but sometimes wondered if he was even on the field. I watched him specifically on several plays where he didn't even look actively involved. Why would anyone play a guy like that in a position where he was out of his talent (or mental) zone?
E. Rushing three men occasionally --- even given LSU's guys, this was really stupid. When they pressured the FSU QB he quaked. When not, he killed. I still believe that the secondary looks potentially very good;
F. I think that LSU is going to win a lot of games and maybe against some big guns --- hopefully Alabama for one. But they don't look built mentally for consistency. In a way this fiasco might be good for their SEC season, since it has nothing to do with the League and might wake some of the idiots up.

... but this is not Notre Dame, so who really cares?

I’d say the fan base was mostly supportive of Kelly when he was coach at ND. I was one of those persons for a while, because I had settled on the stability of the program as its greatest strength at the time, stability that had been non-existent since the days of Holtz.

It was false security though. Anytime we actually got a big win, we were starving for it and often thought we achieved it in spite of administration. This was years of shifting the focus away from actual coaching. The mentality grew to be, “If the coaching staff could take the moxie guys and make them great, imagine if we had access to the best players. Look out!” Meanwhile, many of those talented players we did recruit saw the bench and/or never fully realized their potential. Even now, it’s engrained in our perception of our team that we can’t win the big games because we are lacking something.

So when BK went to LSU and started running his mouth about priorities and having the greatest players, LSU revealed BK’s grift, which ironically he can’t exploit anymore.

Yes, Notre Dame deserves continued upgrades in order to enhance our competitiveness, but we also deserve coaches who coach their ass off and have a genuine sense of integrity and respect for Notre Dame, including when new opportunities inevitably arise.

Kelly’s excuses were the last thing we essentially heard as he walked out the door. His lack of grace and humility for the flaws we begrudgingly accepted from him throughout his tenure were on full display. And losing that shred of respect was Kelly’s biggest failure and why he is no longer defended by many of the Notre Dame faithful.

Again...FSU was my lock of the week, and it had nothing to do with FSU. We know how BK does on the big stage, we know how BK does opening the season with a highly ranked team, we know what BK does to QBs in their second year. Trends are our friends, that was easy easy money last night. That game was over for LSU when it was a top 10 match up with the world watching. They'll see soon, and Jimbo will be run out of town. Oops...I meant BK.

That’s because ND fans know BK was as good of HC as we are going to get because the BOT isn’t really committed to winning a Natty.

I mean if BK sucked ass so badly why not be happy he left and no need to Tweet any further???

Total BK PTSD. We are Kelly’s Psycho Ex he dumped. Not a good look.

I live in New Orleans and let me tell you, I have been really enjoying it because I've heard nothing but "ND sucks, LSU took your coach, he's gonna win here and you're dead in the water because it's ND's fault blah blah blah..." for about 2 years now. And when he beat Alabama last year while we lost to Marshall and Stanford? Yeah that stung.

But now starting to see some of the same issues creeping up into LSU that we saw at ND under BK (hiring all his old unsuccessful coordinators, QB regression, teams unprepared for big games...), while seeing growth in areas at Notre Dame under Freeman we didn't see with BK? I'm going to enjoy the shit out of this for as long as I can.

And maybe BK turns it around? Maybe FSU was just a really bad match up for him. But for now, the schadenfreude is just delicious.

I care about the narrative. The narrative was that ND was holding BK back from being a national champion coach. I personally do not believe that and believe that BK is a really good coach, but not elite. If it's proven that those like me are right, it reinforces that ND can and will reach that level again.

Happy he left, but the way he did it was awful. But it was pure BK.
Why are ND surprised the way he left??? It’s the same way he arrived at ND.

LSU did to ND as ND did to Cinnci.

Pretty much shows the levels of commitment to winning too.

Where is MF better than Bk? Sample size is too small to conclude anything about MF other than he is more likable fellow. This season and next will tell a lot.

Is anyones worst nightmare a situation where Freeman beats Ohio State, we make a playoff, and then he bails for Ohio State? I hear a lot of people say Hartline is guaranteed the job. But no chance I’d hire Hartline over MF if he’s dominating at ND. I’ve heard others say MF would never leave ND for OSU. Imo that’s a bit naive. I guess we burn that bridge when we get there, but it’s a lingering concern of mine.

Except LSU lost last night. Don’t forget that little inconvenient cherry about “commitment to winning”.

I read that ESPN article posted here- Brian Kelly to LSU, per report

Point is- BK turned down Florida, USC, Tennessee, and Texas while at Notre Dame. Even turned down LSU until his agent asked him to take interview as a personal issue. BK probably just feels his coaching career is done within 5 years and LSU was the easier path to the NC because he knows they are singly focused on it. I've moved on as an ND fan.

Put yourself in Jack and Jenkins shoes- did BK give you full confidence to win a national championship with unlimited resources? Not to trash BK, but we have all seen the disappointing team performances over the years, many when we had superior talent. I feel as a ND fan that it was time to move on from BK and feel better about putting more resources behind a coach that can win a national championship. Freeman gives me that hope and time will tell.

The face needs 7 more layers of wrinkles, and eyeballs that look like they are taken out and soaked in Crown Royal every evening at bedtime.

I agree. If MF gets 10 game season and victories he will write his own ticket to OSU or another school willing to pay what he is worth. I hope to enjoy him now. Our best chance to be a Top 10 season is THIS year w Hartmann as QB.

Black coaches are needed and ADs are facing pressure for more inclusion. Freeman and Coach Prime are in great positions to look at $9 or $10MM a year paydays soon.
