I’ve told people a thousand times, Bill Connolly’s model is straight dog shit.
It’s legit horrible.
After LSU beat #4 UGA 37-10 in SEC title game, then OU 63-28 in the CFP semi, then Clemson 42-25 in the CFP Final, going 15-0, his model still didn’t have them #1.
He tried defending it by saying his model predicts who will win if they play, and according to his model, Clemson would beat LSU on a neutral field…and this was the day after LSU beat Clemson by 17 on a neutral field.
Connolly’s dumb ass doubled down & said despite what just happened, Clemson was the better team according to his model.
It’s garbage.

Also, in case you were wondering, he had 13-1 OSU as national champs, despite not even making it to the CFP final.
FWIW, his 2019 end of season model did not have Clemson above LSU. It was OSU, LSU, Bama, and Clemson.

Yeah it was almost unlistenable. I appreciate them attempting to do something live, but they have a lot of kinks to work through for next time.

I know.
I said he had OSU national champs.

But he, himself, said that according to his model, if they played again, Clemson would win, and that was with all the data of the game they just played included in the model.
He took way more flak for saying that than having OSU national champs.

Well actually…
He said, publicly for all to see, that Clemson would win the rematch according to his model. Despite what just happened.
He has since said he “tweaked” his model because of 2019, but it’s still stupid because he relies way too much on his own opinion when he programs it.

If his model says we have less than 3% chance of beating OSU when neither team has played a game and they have a new QB who hasn’t stood out from the pack at their camp. The model is lunacy.

That was what stood out to me. If your picking football and its OSU vs Toledo the under dog being less than 3% is still fucking stupid.

Yeah just looking at 11 warriors it sounds like the would be leader (Kyle McCord) has slipped behind Devon Brown. But they are both about the same level. That doesnt sound great for them.

Got some down time and thought I’d watch a little Driskell Friday Free for All Mailbag!! I started skipping and was curious how long it took for Ryan to speak. He didn’t get a word in until over 7 minutes into the show! 😂 WOW!!

Who's Ryan?
Is that the young man next to Driskell the looks like he always wants to speak but just nods his head instead while Driskell goes on a soliloquy?

No idea what's going on there but I keep seeing national-writer rankings that have us 15th or lower (Feldman, for instance, ranked us 15th. Another Athletic guy had us 19th.). It's true we lost four games last year and it's true we have a tough schedule, but I feel like the national CFB press is entirely underestimating this team. And that's just fine.

I’ve listened to so many worse live recorded podcasts that I was expecting it to be significantly worse. It wasn’t that bad when you compare it to other live recorded podcasts.

Watching gameday live this morning, they were all effusive in praise. Even typical "haters", they were unanimous in thinking that Hartman is a huge difference maker and that the overall program culture that Freeman is establishing is different in a good way from what we've had from the past decade. They really think we're on the cusp of going on a run this year.

I’ll be interested to listen to the II pod this week. I know it’s just one game, but they were way wrong with some of their camp assessments.
The WRs were a lot better than they made out. Maybe it was our CBs.
