What's that old saying, "Crime Doesn't Pay"?
New York City has agreed to pay more than $13 million to settle a lawsuit brought on behalf of roughly 1,300 people who were arrested or beaten by police during race riots that swept through the city in the summer of 2020.

If approved by a judge, the settlement, which was filed in Manhattan federal court Wednesday, would be among the most expensive pay-outs ever awarded in a lawsuit over mass arrests, experts said.

The lawsuit focused on 18 of the many protests that erupted in New York City in the week following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. With certain exceptions, people arrested or subjected to force by NYPD officers at those events will each be eligible for $9,950 in compensation, according to attorneys for the plaintiffs.

Interesting. My guess is the "Fox will apparently match donations up to $1,000 to various organizations that satisfy the company's criteria" part is not being heavily vetted here, or the criteria is loose allowing these organizations to slip through the cracks. Pretty disappointing, but hopefully stuff like this will get people off Fox and to more unbiased news sources.

You know unbiased doesn’t mean “stuff I agree with,” right?

What are you talking about? Fox is mostly garbage, along with much of the rest of MSM. I haven't had cable for years personally.
It's pretty sad how much of "reporting" has turned into political slant these days. It can be hard just to get the facts.

FOX hates conservatives now apparently
But they had that humanitarian Jim Caviezel on their show the other day? I guess all the very principled Christians' will be upset that he compared himself and Donny to Jesus and Moses. I think that's bad?

Idk just one pro-trafficking and bad Christians' opinion though.

People will take Caviezel more seriously once he gets his Oscar for The Sound of Freedom.

So there is an american woman in Dubia who was arrested for yelling at a truck rental clerk. She may have to spend a little time in jail. Apparently, it's against the law for a woman to yell or even raise their voice in public in the United Arab Emirates.

I thought about this in amazement. The horror of it. But then it hit me. It hit me in the forehead like a crystallized diamond bullet.

The genius of it. The sheer genius of it. The will to do such an act. If we had just 100 mayor's who would enact this law, we could end the war in Ukraine in 6 months.

I look out in our towns and cities and can only whisper 'the horror.....the horror.'
Dubai is a weird city. I love the place, but they tolerate anything from people with money. You can have your tits hanging out a sundress at the mall and a thong at the Burj Al Arab if you’re in the right circle. Do something questionably gay in public or a woman handles herself wrong in the wrong location and they are oddly a Muslim nation again.

It's a little weird at this point how hung up you two are over the anti-pedo movie that you haven't even seen. Strange hill to die on.

Because of how many say that any genuine criticism of the movie is due to ulterior motives. I've already said that the trailer looked interesting to me and that it caused me to look into it more. I don't see how criticizing a guy's QAnon ties is off limits, and his comparison of himself to Jesus and Trump as Moses. That should be a big issue for those that are more religious than I am. I had a good laugh looking back in the movie thread at those that lost their minds about hollywood bias/motives/politics and then all of a sudden are saying others are politicizing their criticism?

I totally forgot how much YJ felt aggrieved by Hollywood.

They’re mocking you, dude.
Of course, but I never said the movie was the best thing I've ever seen. It's decent, the user reviews are probably a bit overblown, but it is a very different kind of film. My pushback is with the liberal media trying to paint it as a QAnon deal or a right wing movie. The movie is very much not political in nature, and it's sad that people have tried to politicize it to divide viewers and non-viewers. Maybe if a different actor was the lead that wouldn't have happened, who knows. People can say whatever they want about Caviezel's conspiracy theories and personal opinions, but they don't play a factor in the movie itself. It's kind of sad that bogus connection has been made and it's been used to try and tear down the film. Criticize it for poor pacing, the unnecessary long run time, whatever...it's just silly that the worst thing the media could say about it had nothing to do with the movie.

I feel like I'm riding on a crazy train driven by people who don't understand the first amendment.

Pew Research poll: Most Americans favor restrictions on false information, violent content online

More than half of the poll respondents believe that the US government should censor free speech, as if the government tells the truth.

unsurprisingly, the authoritative left is leading the charge, but the right is surprisingly high as well.

a majority of people want to restrict extremely violent content online but have no issues watching horror films or Tarantino movies.

I love how Dems have no recollection of the expansion of surveillance under GWB and all of a sudden support far reaching government surveillance. Truly brain broken.

"We need more wire tapping because I want to catch more criminals!" "I could never be a criminal!" "Wait, XYZ is now being criminalized? Surely my cookies and web presence hasn't been collected anywhere"

I don't know what should be done, but man more gov surveillance is not it.

I remember I was in college right after 9/11 (maybe 2004 or 2005). Someone did a whole presentation on government surveillance and the need for more to protect Americans. There were two military guys that just returned from Iraq that were irate at the thought. I remember one guy yelled, and I’m paraphrasing “if we start some government surveillance program where everyone’s rights as American citizens are violated then we lost and I fought for a lost cause. The terrorists will have won and got exactly what they wanted and my dead brothers died for nothing”.

Then he threw in a whopper and said “I’d take 10 more 9/11’s then to start giving up my rights as an American”

You always have to look at the difference between vibes and specific proposals. Bernie types get the idea everyone wants all their gov programs but when you actually spell the out the support goes down.

Ditto for cutting taxes 30%. Popular until people realize it means cutting government programs 30%.

A lot of people voting for that are thinking of holocaust deniers who target people with libel. Actually spell it out and it changes. He'll, even Zuck says he thinks they were too heavy handed during COVID.

Yep, I'd be interested in looking at a paper that looks at which had a larger impact on society - 9/11 or COVID.

I could be convinced of either. I was a kid when 9/11 went down, but I remember how so many aspects of day to day life changed in an instant. Even bullying got ratchet up, if you were a brown kid you got eviscerated.
