Bishop was admit that gender was a clear cut this or that and demanded scientific proof otherwise. I think I provided that. Being intersex seems to disprove that gender is a clear cut binary issue. Doctors engage in gender affirming care where they literally make a somewhat subjective decision to determine the “sex” of the patient.

As to the transgender issue. In most cases people aren’t “self diagnosing”. Based on what I know receiving gender affirming care is a pretty complex and involved process. The hysteria around this is pretty dumbfounding and in the end is going to be looked back on as the satanic panic 2.0.

To take this to more abstract level why is someone ingesting hormones to be this or that some big scandal? Athletes have been doing this shit for years.

Athletes change sex all the time? Interesting argument. I know what you are trying to say and it’s not logical or even relevant to the discussion.

Sex is clear cut. Less than 0.5% of people have identifiable intersex traits. Your argument is to make the exception the rule.

Gender affirming care isn’t complex. The goal is in the name of the care. That’s why you need more permissions for field trips than you do for gender affirming care, they don’t want any resistance. The goal is clearly stated.

She also might be the hottest member of Congress. Former Air Force with a bachelor's from Florida in Biology, first Latino woman to represent Florida in Congress.

The media on both sides of aisle going way overboard attacking DeSantis’ announcement (which wasn’t great but wasn’t nearly as bad as some are pretending) should make it obvious how badly they want Trump to be the nominee for the ratings + advertising money.

The announcement itself wasn't the issue. The issue was it encapsulates his whole campaign so far. Too online, no personality, and not professionally run. Desantis is basically the Ted Cruz of 2024.

Honestly I'm hoping he implodes enough that the donors look over the other not Trumpers. Then maybe Tim Scott or Haley or Youngkin can unite the not Trump vote.

TBH I don’t think there’s anyone besides Desantis that can pull them together.

My understanding has been that he was going to do this sorta peculiar alternative media opening (Twitter, Mark Levin, Gowdy, Erickson, etc) and then do the more traditional announcement later. I think it may have been intended to poke traditional media in the eye and despite the funny twitter issues it seems to have succeeded.

He raised like $8.5 million in 24 hours. And Trump (and Team Trump) have been in a full blown Chernobyle-style meltdown since then.

What's your thoughts on this guy Dakota?

He's fine. He's a Romney type. Super well educated. Super wealthy. Basically bought the governorship. I think his biggest donor in 2020 was Bill Gates. Socially moderate (or even liberal), fiscally conservative guy. I don't think he's actually gunning for the Oval Office, I think he's shooting for a Cabinet position or something like that. Maybe I'll stop in his office and ask lol

The optics of going to Twitter, where Trump won't go, shouldn't be lost. He raised a bunch of money and proved he could address policy better than anyone.

Heard on the radio that Biden's approval rating with independent voters is down to 26%. IIRC about six months ago it was around 35%.

CNN Lies and propaganda! The White House tweeted that Biden's approval is strong. His economy is better than anyone's ever in history!

Wrong. I've said no such thing. I'm well aware that there are those born, in relatively rare cases, who have genetic or developmental abnormalities related to their reproductive systems and appearance. I've even treated such a person. They're referred to as intersex. They have little or nothing to do with the current transgender issue, which involves biological males or females with gender-correct genitalia and XY or XX chromosomes deciding they want to identify as the opposite gender. That's a completely different thing than someone who is intersex.

I imagine you're actually very well aware of the real issue for most of us and choose to strawman around it for obvious reasons, but just in case, I'll give a concise explanation. It's not hysteria. It's not hate. It's not ignorance. It's not bigotry. It's not discrimination. It's a strong belief in truth, objective reality, and a belief that mental illness and self-delusion are to be treated, not encouraged, just as we should treat a schizophrenic's delusions and break from reality, as opposed to playing along with them and not encouraging them to get treatment.

Most of us strongly believe they should seek help, but are willing to let a transexual live their life as the other gender if they want. The problem is when they insist that the rest of us must play along with their delusions, address them by pronouns that have no basis in objective reality, allow them to push their beliefs and agenda on our minor children, and generally force the rest of us to pretend we too see the emperor's beautiful new clothes, or be attacked and our jobs threatened.

Did you really just equate athletes taking performance enhancing hormones to trans people taking estrogen and testosterone??? Do you have ANY idea of the difference or what hormones are or how many different ones exist and how they work? That's like equating a love note between a husband & wife to a rambling manifesto threatening to kill the president. "Well, people have been writing shit for years." That you'd even attempt this really bad analogy tells me a lot about how weak your argument is.

Attempting to defend a serious mental illness or a psychological need for attention as normal and healthy is just plain wrong and immoral. It's not significantly different than insisting that schizophrenics shouldn't be treated because treatment denies them their right to be creative and believe the voices in their head... and we should all be forced to acknowledge and talk to their imaginary friends. You're doing those people a severe disservice by encouraging their delusions instead of encouraging them to seek help... all because it's this generation's cultural cause de jure. Virtually none of you gave a flip about the issue a decade ago (or had ever given it a moment's thought), nor will you a decade from now. You'll have moved on to the next ridiculous, nonobjective, narcissistic, "I'm saving the world and DOING something special" nonsense cause.

The crazy thing is how many OnlyTrump people are out there wanting to run the only guy who Biden would have a good chance at beating.
Very good chance of costing the GOP the election, but I don't know what the solution is short of convincing him to back DeSantis or whoever wins the nomination if it's someone else.

I really wish he'd just go away. We got what we wanted from him: a conservative SCOTUS, a booming economy, and he kept Hillary out of the Oval Office. He can ride off into the sunset now.

If DeSantis wins the nomination, I can’t see Trump endorsing him.

That goes against the nature of the man. His goal is to maximize eyeballs on him until he dies. That was the package you purchased in 2016, expecting him to become a party man at this time is foolish.

The funny thing is if he was still in the White House right now he'd be done in about 18 months and basically out of politics. Instead he'll dominate the news for those next 18 months and possibly another 4 years if he manages to win...although that's doubtful. I think the constant pushback and attacks have only made his base more and more endeared to him at this point. If he didn't face 4 years of investigations he wouldn't be such a martyr to them.

He's this century's William Jennings Bryant with more success up front. He captured his party and infused it with populism, but lost ground in every subsequent election he ran in. I give decent odds he's the candidate in 2024 and 2028.

I don’t think anyone was expecting him to be a party man which’s why he was elected in the first place.

Looks like nobody in congress is particularly happy with the new budget deal, which means it's probably a win for us common guys.

Dem wins
Debt limit suspended until 2025
No work requirement for Medicaid
Climate initiatives maintained

Repub wins
IRS funding cut
Student loan repayment starts
COVID funding cut
Non defense spending capped

AOC is having a temper tantrum over a Twitter account that is obviously a parody of her. Even Elon has responded to it and gotten in on the action of making fun of her for saying so many dumb things, so now she's raging at him for promoting the parody account. She issued a statement to her followers pointing out that the OBVIOUSLY fake parody account wasn't really her because, well, apparently her followers can't figure that out. I guess she'll soon be telling them that The Babylon Bee and The Onion aren't real either.

Jesus F. Christ she's dumber than a bag of hammers and thin-skinned to boot. The Twitter account, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez Press Release, is just savaging her with idiotic comments that are SOOOO close to the dumb stuff she's famous for saying. The following is funny and Musk replied to it, further angering her.

SEEING DOUBLE: AOC lashes out at Twitter parody account 'impersonating me and going viral'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is furious at Twitter after a parody account of the congresswoman began to go viral, claiming CEO Elon Musk is behind its recent traffic.

"FYI there’s a fake account on here impersonating me and going viral," AOC wrote in a post Tuesday.

"The Twitter CEO has engaged it, boosting visibility," she said, suggesting Musk is helping push the account across the platform. "It is releasing false policy statements and gaining spread. I am assessing with my team how to move forward. In the meantime, be careful of what you see."

While the fake account uses the same profile photo as the congresswoman, it makes clear that it is not actually AOC, posting under the name "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (parody)."

"I can't believe people would think these parody tweets are from our office when they are clearly fake. Come on y'all you know I would never say something as stupid as that," the parody account joked in response to AOC's criticism.

The account hit back at AOC in a series of tweets Tuesday, joking that the congresswoman was going to make parody "illegal."

"After brainstorming with my staff – I’m going to push Congress to make it illegal to joke, laugh, or make fun of me. Parody should be illegal," the parody account wrote.

"I can't believe someone would do that to us," the account wrote in another response to the congresswoman.

Ocasio-Cortez has been a prominent critic of Musk and his new Twitter verification policy that allows more accounts to obtain blue checkmarks.

While the parody does have the once-coveted blue checkmark, the congresswoman's remains gray to make a clear distinction between her government account and other verified pages.

According to Twitter's help center, by using the word "parody" in the username and biography, the account does not violate the platform's user guidelines.

The CBO actually estimates the changes to SNAP will lead to more benefits. The new exceptions (homeless, vets, etc.) will add more people than the work requirements will remove.

The IRS cuts are also back dated and can be maneuvered around (though if the cuts go through they'll raise the debt).

It seems like the dems gamed out the details a bit better than the R's.

The overall slight reduction in spending actually helps with inflation vs. 2010 when bigger cuts depressed an already depressed economy. All things together it went as well as it could have.
