It was awesome to see the team play so well for Brey last night, not sure where that fire has been all season but what an offensive performance by the squad. Hammond balled out, Cormac shined at times, everyone contributed.

Of course they had to make it interesting at the end, letting a 20 point lead dwindle down to 5 points in the final minute, but they got the job done.

Going to miss Brey, but I'm looking forward to the next chapter. Get to enjoy his personality for at least two more games. Go Irish!

I think he technically still has his COVID year to use. Honestly not entirely sure. Very long shot IMO that he’d stay if he did. I think he’d be 26-27 years old.
yeah he's 24 now, so he'd be 25. He'd be our very own basketball version of Stetson Bennett! Dr. Ryan haha

ISD posted about Greg McDermott emerging as a candidate. Makes a whole lot of sense. I don’t love it, but it’s probably an upgrade from Brey prior to 2018

Considering his strength isn't recruiting, but building a program around kids that will stay 3-4 years, this would probably sit well with the admin.

So that would mean we aren’t cheap after all

Also NBA connections with Doug
Not an awful option - if he's down to work his tail off in ACC
Fit's the mold; ND doesn't seem like a program that's ever going to churn and burn one and dones. Wesley was a unicorn, and though hindsight is 20/20, still think he could've raised his draft value if he came back.

Track record speaks for itself, I wouldn't mind this hire.

Do the boys have a tourney run in them!? Or will they just get blown out and call it a year? lol

They played VT and NC State very tough this year but I don't think they win a single game. Will have to tune in knowing it's likely Brey's last game but that's it.

On to the next ND coaching hire :ROFLMAO:

Ryan should have given the ball up and gives it up, then comes back and hits a huge 3

Cormac Ryan, Marcus Hammond and freaking Matt Zona are leading the way offensively.

Irish up 5 with 5:30 left. ND looking good on offense.

Matt Zona & Cormac Ryan could be the only regulars on the team next year.

No one has a spot on this team. Everyone needs to earn it. They just don’t play good basketball overall.

Really thought they’d pull that one out. Bummer.
Excited for a new era but the forecast is looking rainy.

I’d imagine they’ll need bodies. No way they can get an entire scholarship level basketball team together while removing each individual player to rebuild with new ones.
Not enough players want to go to ND to do that.
I understand the frustration but that is literally what you’re looking at.

I have to say the Ball State game of Bonzie’s senior year was the downfall of this program.

Time to hire a dynamic coach who will recruit talent and develop it . We're in a terrible hole and its on the administration to dig us out. We have to give the new guy the means to win. We can't expect to hire a guy from say, Drake and tell him we cannot take players who he could have gotten at his previous school. We need to pick the right guy AND give him the weapons to win with.

Maybe the biggest lesson should be to not tolerated mediocrity. Kelly got the message after 2016. Did Brey ever even get the message after 2019? We stunk and nothing changed. So Jack dropped the ball then.

Rainy is an understatement, I imagine they're going to have to hit the portal HARD, and they're not going to have the luxury of being selective, either.

Only three guys returning who have some level of regular playing experience. Starling (if he stays), Lubin (if he stays) and.....Matt Zona. He's the third most experienced player remaining on the roster, and only one recruit committed right now in Marcus Burton. Big yikes.

At any rate, definitely want to thank Brey for all he's done, I'm an eternal optimist so I'll choose to reflect fondly on the good times and not the bad. It's going to be a bumpy ride moving forward but this ('22-23, '23-24) is rock bottom. Better times ahead.

If I was ever going to bet on ND to lose a game, it would’ve been this one.

Short of the Administration loosening Transfer Portal restrictions, whoever takes this job is in for a tough road.

+6.5 was a pretty wide spread against a team that we recently played very tough. I took that and won. NDMBB actually made me a bit of $$ this year after I was bullish on them early in the year and they routinely underperformed against their weak non-conference schedule, but they pretty routinely beat the spread in ACC play, particularly on the road.

They actually played majority of their games competitive and close this year (Clemson Sr. night notwithstanding); the team's Achilles heal was finishing games.

I wonder how different this season could've been if the Ivy League granted Atkinson a fifth year waiver. Nate was so good offensively but he was never equipped to guard the opposing teams' five. Our post play on both ends was so abysmal, it would've changed the whole outlook of this squad. Woulda-coulda-shoudla.
