I'm shocked the one person they found that was upset was the 77 year old rural Quebecor, usually the French are so welcoming.

Awful story, wish we didn't help them out.
“I was scared — I thought, after crossing the border, that I would have to find my way into town and see what I could do to help myself and my daughter,” she said, recalling, instead, how government officials offered assistance.

“I was taken care of,” Ms. Awulabah said. “Later, they said, ‘Don’t worry, you eat something.’ They gave us some drinks, snacks. I said, ‘God, are you serious?’” Her daughter now goes to school and Ms. Awulabah wants to move into an apartment as soon as she obtains a work permit while her asylum application is being processed.

Hate this too, wish they could have frozen in the cold.
Usually after a few months, they can start working and receiving health care and other social benefits in Canada while their applications are processed. Many migrants are sheltered at government-paid hotels for extended periods, and children are enrolled in public schools.

That or it’s just as likely they also have angry white nativist population with same resentments as the US has. Canada also has a need for laborers. Maybe Canada will start treating us like y’all want us to treat Mexico. Maybe they will build a wall and make us pay for it.

It's honestly in poor taste. Some entitled asshole starting at a perceived lower class and videoing them, and then you go back to the idea that these people exist to help farmers is just arrogant to me.

You might be right. Then again the immigrants who entered legally and did all the work to become Canadian citizens are also upset that these migrants are jumping the que and not having to play by the same rules.

I suppose these black and brown people could just be angry and racist against other black and brown people.

It's funny you mentioned a wall as that's exactly what they did at one of the crossings.

An old white french lady upset at immigrants in rural Quebec who likely voted in both referendums to cede from Canada in order to preserve "french canadian" culture is not a convincing source for rational minds that Canadians are pissed off at immigration issues. Nowhere in the article is it mentioned that other immigrants are mad at people seeking asylum in Canada. Not everyone is a selfish prick that wants to throw a cinderblock to others that are drowning. It's really a non-partisan thing in Canada where only the fringe alt right is pushing anti-immigrant rhetoric.

This is the equivalent of going to rural Georgia in 1885 to ask White Whiterson what he thinks about a black guy owning property in his town and thinking "You know what, this whole allowing those pesky blacks to own property isn't that great".

Our old white male boomers are oil barons in Alberta who love immigrants to help out. My buddies in school who were Sikh literally got priority for jobs out in Calgary because of how highly thought of they are over there. You think Europeans hate Americans? Go to Quebec and they'll think you're from Toronto and hate you.

You would think the Canadian people woud be more accommodating. Trudeau posted an open invite to all who wanted to come on Twitter a couple of years ago. Surely his citizens were on board. Did they think they wouldn't take up the inviation?

Besides, Canada has a ton of empty land and a tiny population. They are literally giving land away in the Yukon.

From '90-'92, I lived outside of Scotstown, Quebec for 2+ years. The first time I got jumped was because I didn't speak french. The next two times were because I didn't speak french and because I was American.

I hated French Canadians for a long time.

Let's not ignore the assumption that they are all illegally in the US b/c of the color of their skin and the work they perform. Dare I say.... racist.

All around tragic. I read somewhere the thought was maybe they were mistaken for Haitian drug runners. The lawlessness down there is insane. Just a stones throw away from the border.

Company I use to work for did business with a facility right over the border from El Paso. Our rep down there lived in El Paso. His son narrowly escaped being kidnapped. The next morning he moved his family into a hotel until they could find a new home.
