They just made MF look like a complete fool by pulling this small time BS. Pathetic.
$2.8M buyout for an assistant football coach being an obstacle for a school with this much money just rings really hollow to me.
Have to assume Yurcich has a buyout clause in his contract as well that would be an "obstacle"Now that I think about it more losing Ludwig sucks but it's not the end of the world. We don't know if he was Freemans top choice? We don't even know who they have interviewed. Last I heard they offered the Kansas State Coach. Ludwig could have easily said no thanks and its possible he was a 1 year or 2 year guy. What sucks is the way ND handled it that looks bad. I think they can higher just about anyone and this offense should be a top 20 offense or better next year. Does anyone have a realistic list of guys who are left for us to consider? Here is my top choices if I were Freeman.
1. Mike Yurcich would be a home run higher, I think he's a better choice than Ludwig.
2. Bryon Leftwich would be a short term answer. Most likely here for a year or 2.
3. Joe Brady.
I like the Tims more than Sampson. Sampson sometimes acts like he’s so much more reasonable than these crazy fans. Which I get, cause there’sI like Sampson well enough on The Athletic.
dunno if you rope that in with ISD et al in "paid sites" tho. That's the only one I pay for.
I like the Tims and Sampson on the II pod and I like basically everyone on the ISD pod(s) except for Debbie Downer.
None of them are perfect, but those are all fine to good.
Who wants to tell him? It's not the decision, it's that they basically went through all the motions of offering and THEN pulled the rug out from under:
Also, Ludwig WAS our top guy...

Tbf, our top guy does not equal the top guy at his coordinator position as Gray was saying
Has a worse ring to it than Battle Frog Fiesta BowlFrom the people that brought you the “Dick Corbett Head Football Coach” we present to you the:
IrishEnvy.com Offensive Coordinator
I heard that. Preach it.Saw the news last night. Listened to Irish Breakdown on my way into work. Irish Illustrated has a pod scheduled for today. Hoping my rage subsides a little and I can become slightly rational.
At this point, my gut emotion is to fully support Freeman without supporting the University's hollow voices. Actions speak louder than words and they're setting Freeman up to fail.
Why are corporations and institutions so fucking clueless as to why it's important to INVEST IN YOUR OWN STAFF AND PRODUCTS?! I see this everywhere. And I'm sick of it. ND as a brand and as a product could and should be untouchable by it's peers, yet they constantly refuse to invest money into themselves in order to actually be the thing they claim to be. Excellence on all fronts? Bullllshit.
Only thing the bot and admin understand is money, that is the only thing that would make them rethink their stance if it began to hurt. Even with that, it is doubtful .This might be contrarian but hear me out- maybe this is a good thing.
Not in the short term; it's definitely a shitty, embarrassing, dumpster fire right now.
But maybe this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Literally everyone outside of the admin/Swarbrick is rallying against this bush league decision. Maybe this can spur change.
It better be because if not, it's kind of the end of ND football as we know it.
People like Mendoza need to come out and publicly criticize it. That would be a good start.Only thing the bot and admin understand is money, that is the only thing that would make them rethink their stance if it began to hurt. Even with that, it is doubtful .
Then rip off the bandaid, the ACC deal is crap anyway. Quasi-independence and cheapness is a sucky combination. We make significantly less TV revenue than a Purdue and people are surprised that we have trouble financing the staff. There is a reason USC/UCLA jumped to the Big Ten. Gate revenue is borderline irrelevant in the grand scheme of things... media rights, apparel, and donations float the boat.

Which is why I agree with your previous posts… that something else has to be up/going on? The administration had to know what the buyout and such would be as part of the vetting process. There is really no issue in my mind with not being willing to pay that amount for Ludwig and possibly Harding.
The process is the issue and unnecessarily embarrassing. If this would have started with they won’t pursue Ludwig because of the buyout, that would have been perfectly reasonable.
I don’t understand this perception that it’s because we have less money than other schools. Most, if not all other schools wouldn’t pay that buyout.
Agree. No one would have batted an eye if after a Zoom interview, they didn't offer Ludwig because of the buyout. There is really no issue in my mind with not being willing to pay that amount for Ludwig and possibly Harding.

But reporting that Freeman and company were blown away, saying Ludwig is a "genius," making a public appearance at the hockey game, everyone waiting for Ludwig's decision, etc., then backing out because of the buyout, is one of the baby back bitchiest things I've ever seen.
It's going to be Parker. So nearly everyone agrees that this shitshow cost us an OC that we thought would fit well. Now is the question, who are the legitimate potential "QUALIFIED" OC is there that ND can go after? After Klein and Ludwig, I never had anyone else in mind (including Lewis and Leftwich).
Unless you have some path to snagging Lewis, it is back to the drawing board (and/or you need to reevaluate what you're doing + what you're willing to spend here and try to poach someone from a top tier program).
