You know the Chicago Blackhawks are going to have a great year when you hear Patrick Kane ask Seth Jones "what the f*ck are you doing?" on live TV.
That sucks,… a buddy from work is from Philly and we have fun. We are actually going to this Philly steak place tomorrow that a fellow Philly guy opened up,… it’s super good but there’s a nasty ass painting of gritty on the wallsThis is the least into hockey I’ve ever been. The Flyers have sucked all my passion away
lol that Flyers guy sure made the hockey journos mad.
Regardless of one’s feelings some of the takes are a bit dumb,… I’ve seen a lot of calls to have him scratched from the lineup until he wears it. You serious, take one of your best players out of the lineup for this??? Ok
Scratching him would be a net positive at this point. He’s just not very good lolRegardless of one’s feelings some of the takes are a bit dumb,… I’ve seen a lot of calls to have him scratched from the lineup until he wears it. NASCAR did the same thing didn't they?NHL still has the whole "Gotcha" thing going on, trying to stay relevant and "hip" with the new way of thinking. I recently read something (can't find it) but had to do with the NHL trying to go/be full Woke. Like NHL execs came out and said we want to go full woke. I really wish I could find it.

I’d love to see their internal data that drove these decisions. It’s hard to imagine they have data that shows the gain from grabbing ‘woke’, non hockey fans is greater than the net loss from old school hardcores… but I’m assuming. They must have data saying the opposite
Maybe the "old school hardcores" who can't accept a once a night event should reevaluate their beliefs if they can't handle a pregame event that happens once a year, idk tho I'm not offended at a rainbow flag lmao. Hockey is an elitist regional sport, with the dumbest players (most barely get through high school). Kind of "well what did you expect"
The hockey media would have more credibility if they were more critical of Ovechkin being pals with Putin.
Yes I have no doubt your college team was intelligent. The NHL draft eligible age is set in a way that many of the high end players who actually make it don't have a year of post-high school education. Which is the players that go on to have a significant platform within the NHL are often uneducated. My college team was All academic, had multiple academic all Americans (all 4 years), had the highest GPA of any of the major sports teams. One of our "dumb kids" happened to be on that list and went on to win a cup with LA and ANA.
Hockey teams in general have one of the highest GPA's of the sports teams. Canadian Major JR, USHL/NAHL players are required to go to school if underaged, and required to uphold a standard. Not a good take based in any factual information.
I know you live under a semi communist dictator in JT, but I was hoping you would be "smart" enough to believe in someone's choice.
You don't have to agree with it or like it, but you should at least respect someone's right to choose.

I appreciate you taking the time to see where I live and then explaining to me about CHL players as if I wouldn't know lol. The school they are required to go to is......high school education. The point is, the players with significant platforms aren't going to be educated and their social/cultural experiences are limited to who they have played hockey with. Hockey is an elitist sport, there's no way around that, if you spend your entire life around a homogenous group of people you likely aren't going to be experienced with people with different backgrounds than yours.
He was legally required to participate in a Flyers community event as part of his contract. Without even getting in to the morality of it all, he signed the contract and he should follow it. He can make a protest of the event, but we can call him a giant piss baby who picks and chooses which part of his religion he wants to hide behind. Not sure the Russian Orthodox church would be happy about an unmarried guy living with his partner.

He's a public figure lmao so anything he does in the public sphere will be commented on. Take a look at this thread, let me know the number of people that are upset at people in the media being upset at him vs number of people shitting on him.Oh, tell me more about his contract.
Also, as a country that prides it's self on the right to protest and free speech, I think he is doing just that. Sorry it doesn't fit peoples sensitive narrative. Get over it, be an adult, you don't have to like it, but you can also mind your own business. Trust me, you will be happier for it.
Also, as part of the Canadian JR hockey players CHL contract, every year they play in the league they get a year of higher education paid for by the league in their home state or Provence. Many NHL players get educations far beyond HS on their own. Hockey players are widely regarded as some of the most educated and well spoken of athletes. EX: Steve Yzerman, the GM of Tampa and now the Wings. He's an "uneducated" hockey player by your standards, but he's making a helluva living running a major sports franchise.
These events have gone off without a hitch for a number of years, I'm sure a number of athletes have beliefs that line up with Provo but they still go on with it. He's not endorsing shit, he's just wearing a jersey for a warmup and the team auctions it off. If he was a captain maybe there is an argument for endorsing it.He wasn't legally required to participate. I've seen the contract clause people are citing.
It has a "reasonable" standard in it. And a number of people approaching zero would say its reasonable to require a hockey player to participate in a Gay Pride event, particularly once he cites religious objections.
Make him sign autographs? Sure. Do a Meet and Greet. Sure. Require him to endorse the LGBTQIA+ stuff? No.
It was fun to see the hockey journos step in it on social media though.
Yeah 100%, that is a very believable take.Maybe they're sleeping in different beds?
