I don't want to take this as gospel, but if this is true I feel like this is more towards the future of the program. Maybe they are looking to place an interim tag on Anthony Solomon to see if he can indeed be the man to lead the program forward. If he is or isn't, it should have a positive ripple effect on recruits knowing that change is coming.
24–88 (.214) is his head coaching record... I hope they look outside the locker room.

Zero chance it’s anyone on staff currently given the crap show we are viewing. Is that fair to Solomon? Probably not. Solomon may have totally different philosophies but he is handcuffed to Brey.

The backlash would be severe and I’m not sure how effectively you can convince recruits that he’s got a new vision. You need a clean break.

No link, more of an inside scoop. A good friend of mine hangs out with a lot of the coaches and he texted me to let me know. Not sure who his source is so I posted here to see if anyone else has heard the same.
That's very interesting; thanks for the scoop. Definitely worth keeping tabs on.

Yeah I don't see any reason to hold on to any part of this staff. Clean break, new blood. Let's go.

If Brey is stepping down now, there is another short term option that is not on staff, but still employed by the university, has 38 years of head coaching experience with a 77% winning percentage, 2 national championships, and a spot in the hall of fame.

Give Muffett a call and see if she would be willing to close out the season and hopefully save us from this tailspin were in.

I love this idea.

I was always a big Brey fan, but 2 items drove me crazy: 1. Live and die by the 3 gameplan 2. Never recruited true Centers..one thing that has been consistently missing

also gives us a head start on searching for a replacement. Soloman, who won 21% of his games in 4 years at St Bona cannot possibly be a candidate for the HC job.

First of all, shout out @dad4aa . Some serious news breaking there!

This is a best case scenario IMO. An interim isn't going to turn this around. Brey isn't turning this around, but this at least can give them something to rally behind and maybe pull off a couple of upsets.

Whoever the coach is, he has a tall task, and it starts by holding onto Starling, Lubin, Campbell, and the incoming recruiting class. That is a very strong base to build off. A couple critical portal pieces and a turn around is possible year 1.

I’m going to choose to believe that he came to this decision on his own accord and realizes that walking away right now is truly in the best interests of the program. His last act will be to ensure that his program isn’t any further destabilized at his own fault.

"Plans to tell team after practice" proceeds to break news on twitter
I'm guessing they are in the middle of practice when Noie tweeted it. So unless they have their phones strapped to their forearms, nobody on the team is finding out early.

It's so strange that this is something I wanted to happen, and needs to happen, yet I'm saddened by it. I'll look back on the Brey years fondly, even with the stink of the past five.

From the early Chris Thomas and Torin Francis days, all the way way to the bitter end, there were certainly some lows, but also a lot of fun moments. Those Elite Eight runs were an absolute joy.

It's pretty easy to understand the emotions here.

Good, he has only ever put out average teams who need to use gimmicks to win. Might sound harsh but he would have been let go a long time ago at many other programs.

Strong disagree. ND basketball didn't even have a practice court until the last 8 years or so. They practiced on a dusty half court and had terrible facilities until recently. This isn't even taking into account the fact it will always live in the shadow of football. My only beef with Brey is after the Elite 8 runs, recruiting was mailed in outside of the 2018 class and the most recent classes.

Your right he did do a great job as an ambassador of the team but everything he excelled at was something a head of basketball operations should be doing. Coach wise, he has done very little.

Very excited to see who we get.

Realistically though, where would you rank this job among all ACC jobs? I legitimately think it’s a bottom 3 or 4 job in the conference. Especially in the portal age.
