Why do I have a funny feeling that this team is gonna be exactly like the football team this year. Play down to lower teams and lose some clunkers. Then play up against the big boys and possible be ranked at some point this year

I’m optimistic that they will come on late and make a Sweet 16 run off of an above average defense and hot offense. I think they have enough scorers to do it. They will struggle with big men, but I think they figure out how to defend them eventually in ACC play.

I was thinking about this today, I think at some point Brey has to think about starting Lubin if the post D doesn't improve, so far Nate is getting bullied in the post. I think you could potentially sit Wertz and insert Lubin against teams we know have solid bigs.

Can't hurt to try. I agree on nights when ND is spreading the ball around, they're tough to beat. We've already had a few games this year with 4-5 guys scoring in double figures.

I’m optimistic too cause we have seen how good this offense can be. It’s now down to putting it together on a consistent basis. Laz had a really bad day all around on Saturday. And so did wertz. 2 starters combined for 3-15 and all of the 9 shots wertz took were from 3. Not exactly ideal.

Time to bounce back tonight and get back on a winning streak

Idk. This team is way too inconsistent and unpredictable for a team that has 6 grad students.

I mean this team almost(should have) made the sweet sixteen last year and you have 4 of those players back with 2 really good freshman. And I think this years team is better on O at least so far it seems that way. Too early to really see what we got but I’m staying optimistic till the wheels really do fall off. We have a top 25 win under our belt already so we know we can beat good teams

I’m gonna go ahead and say it. JJ needs to work on the threes, but in my 20+ years of watching ND basketball I don’t remember a player as deadly and consistent once he gets within 5 feet of the basket.

Typical of a Brey team early in the season.

Yeesh well we won. Clearly once LAZ left the game it completely changed the game. Had us on the ropes but we pulled through. Wins a win.

Unless they improve defensively and rebounding the ball, this is how they're going to keep on winning games. Against teams lesser than them and on their level.

We don't have a legitimate post defender. Only hope we have is for Lubin to continue to improve in that area. Rebounding is a disaster.

But there's no denying that (despite the dry spell in the last 8 minutes tonight) this team can score points in a hurry. We have 4 guys on the floor at any given time who can hit the 3 effectively.

100% agreed. We can score in bunches. Looks like it’s gonna be another year of having to just get to like 80 and hope the other team doesn’t lol

Big one against Marquette at Purcell this Sunday. 7-3 record, all three are quality losses against Purdue, Mississippi St and Wisconsin. They also smoked Baylor at home last week.

They have two guys who average more than 15 points per game and four in double figures. Going to be a really tough match up for ND as this is a contender for the Big East title and a legit tournament team.

Right now ESPN shows the Irish 54.8% chance of victory but to me that's basically a toss up given home court advantage.

Marq also averages over 82pts a game. They aren’t gonna be easy to stop. Have to keep up with them or it will be over early

One of the most lopsided games, from an officiating standpoint, that I’ve watched this season. So many no calls in favor of Marquette. Marquette was almost in the bonus 10 minutes in.

Starling is playing like Wesley, and not in the good way.

This team (like most Brey teams) are generally unable to run any type of offense against anyone who extends the D and hustles. Far too many crappy shots because we are unable to drive.

Even when we have decent years, our postseasons are generally crap because opponents defenses are certainly more dialed in during the tournament.

I miss the days when Notre Dame was one of the toughest teams at home.
I miss the days when Notre Dame shot 90% from the free throw almost every game.
I miss the days when Notre Dame took care of the ball and had very little turnovers.

For a team with a core of veteran's back and one of Brey's best recruiting class I thought they'd be a better product on the court vs. Marquette.

Bring back the burn offense.....

not often you say a 7-3 team stinks but this team really stinks. a bad loss to a 3-4 cuse team and now a second half beatdown in a loss

Need a fresh approach. If you can hire MF for the football team, you can hire a young bball coach who has fresh ideas.

I just don’t get how we are so bad. We have so many shooters and when we are moving the ball and get a decent shot most of the time we can hit it but it seems like when we are on everyone is on but when we are off everyone is off. It’s not like one person can help us rise up. Once in a while one of the guys will go off but there is no consistency. It’s extremely frustrating.

I have no idea what each game this year will bring us. I could see us not even making the tourney and I can see us making sweet sixteen assuming we are hitting our shots.

Maybe we just haven’t found our identity Yet but you should find that before the tenth game of year so idk what to think

Epic fail on Brey for not getting an average big guy in the off season that could come in and give some good minutes for a defensive presence and rebounding..Epic Fail! It's going to be extremely challenging for this team to make the tourney. The ACC hasn't done themselves any favors losing out of conference as much as they have, and probably won't get many teams in.

This has been Brey for quite a while. Up and down teams, have a bunch of questionable losses than a surprise or two win. We've been due for a new coach for a while. I don't know why Jack has been hesitant to make a move.

Starling had such a good November but December he seems to be forcing the issue a bit. Probably no coincidence that our competition has stepped up slightly, too. I wouldn't mind seeing him come off of the bench for a couple of games. Hammond has been a little rusty too, which is understandable coming off of that injury.

I expected us to lose yesterday, but was hoping for a better contest. Marquette is tournament team. Hopefully ND can keep getting better, but last night was a gut punch.

Bummer. Thought this team would be decent but clearly they lack the proper big man they need. The guard play is fine. Nate is just a liability defensively, especially away from the ball. Constantly out of position for rebounds. Brey needs to play Lubin more even if he's not ready. Even small teams are outsizing this team. At worst try Zona, because in the current state this team isn't a tournament team.
