I was thinking about this today, I think at some point Brey has to think about starting Lubin if the post D doesn't improve, so far Nate is getting bullied in the post. I think you could potentially sit Wertz and insert Lubin against teams we know have solid bigs.I’m optimistic that they will come on late and make a Sweet 16 run off of an above average defense and hot offense. I think they have enough scorers to do it. They will struggle with big men, but I think they figure out how to defend them eventually in ACC play.
I’m optimistic too cause we have seen how good this offense can be. It’s now down to putting it together on a consistent basis. Laz had a really bad day all around on Saturday. And so did wertz. 2 starters combined for 3-15 and all of the 9 shots wertz took were from 3. Not exactly ideal.I’m optimistic that they will come on late and make a Sweet 16 run off of an above average defense and hot offense. I think they have enough scorers to do it. They will struggle with big men, but I think they figure out how to defend them eventually in ACC play.
It’s a Brey-coached team. That alone makes me guarded against being optimistic.Idk. This team is way too inconsistent and unpredictable for a team that has 6 grad students.
I’m gonna go ahead and say it. JJ needs to work on the threes, but in my 20+ years of watching ND basketball I don’t remember a player as deadly and consistent once he gets within 5 feet of the basket.
Typical of a Brey team early in the season.Idk. This team is way too inconsistent and unpredictable for a team that has 6 grad students.
100% agreed. We can score in bunches. Looks like it’s gonna be another year of having to just get to like 80 and hope the other team doesn’t lolUnless they improve defensively and rebounding the ball, this is how they're going to keep on winning games. Against teams lesser than them an on their level.
We don't have a legitimate post defender. Only hope we have is for Lubin to continue to improve in that area. Rebounding is a disaster.
But there's no denying that (despite the dry spell in the last 8 minutes tonight) this team can score points in a hurry. We have 4 guys on the floor at any given time who can hit the 3 effectively.
Marq also averages over 82pts a game. They aren’t gonna be easy to stop. Have to keep up with them or it will be over earlyBig one against Marquette at Purcell this Sunday. 7-3 record, all three are quality losses against Purdue, Mississippi St and Wisconsin. They also smoked Baylor at home last week.
They have two guys who average more than 15 points per game and four in double figures. Going to be a really tough match up for ND as this is a contender for the Big East title and a legit tournament team.
Right now ESPN shows the Irish 54.8% chance of victory but to me that's basically a toss up given home court advantage.
And it did....Brey Ball....wish it would just go away. This game is about to turn into a bloodbath
I hope Ben Hansbrough is some where shaking his head...he was one of the best.We ran the burn offense (unintentionally) all game.
I miss Digger.I miss the days when Notre Dame was one of the toughest teams at home.
I miss the days when Notre Dame shot 90% from the free throw almost every game.
I miss the days when Notre Dame took care of the ball and had very little turnovers.
For a team with a core of veteran's back and one of Brey's best recruiting class I thought they'd be a better product on the court vs. Marquette.
Bring back the burn offense.....
This has been Brey for quite a while. Up and down teams, have a bunch of questionable losses than a surprise or two win. We've been due for a new coach for a while. I don't know why Jack has been hesitant to make a move.I just don’t get how we are so bad. We have so many shooters and when we are moving the ball and get a decent shot most of the time we can hit it but it seems like when we are on everyone is on but when we are off everyone is off. It’s not like one person can help us rise up. Once in a while one of the guys will go off but there is no consistency. It’s extremely frustrating.
I have no idea what each game this year will bring us. I could see us not even making the tourney and I can see us making sweet sixteen assuming we are hitting our shots.
Maybe we just haven’t found our identity Yet but you should find that before the tenth game of year so idk what to think
Starling had such a good November but December he seems to be forcing the issue a bit. Probably no coincidence that our competition has stepped up slightly, too. I wouldn't mind seeing him come off of the bench for a couple of games. Hammond has been a little rusty too, which is understandable coming off of that injury. One of the most lopsided games, from an officiating standpoint, that I’ve watched this season. So many no calls in favor of Marquette. Marquette was almost in the bonus 10 minutes in.
Starling is playing like Wesley, and not in the good way.
