Difference is mainly JJ got the entire season to have ups and downs and Buchner was thrown into the fire WK 1. JJ didn’t really show anything as a QB talent wise that makes me change my mind any special way about him today. Already knew he had that “it” to him competitiveness wise. Needed to make 3 - 5 plays and did. Not writing Buchner off as not having the same in him.

Can't predict injuries.

And like it or not, Michigan started the year with a clear identity and played to it. All McCarthy needed to do was fling it to wide open receivers and hand it off to their backs and let them feast.

Buchner meanwhile had to drop back and pray he didn't get decleated by Marshall

I think this is key. Next year, whoever NDs QB is, will have a few games to gel.

If you swapped Buchner and McCarthy not a lot changes for either team, IMO.

Ehhh... Not so sure about that.

TB's been a starting QB just 16 times ever. He will be 21 years old when OSU comes to town having played 2 games in the prior 4 years.

All I’m saying is if JJ McCarthy is at ND they lose against OSU and probably Marshall too. If TB is at Michigan they are probably undefeated still.

McCarthy isn’t anything special at this point and time. Go look at his numbers versus Pyne’s. They aren’t that far off.

I agree. JJ got some meaningful snaps last year and has been allowed to come along in a positive way. Buchner got to hand the ball off a couple times last year and run for his life this. Still love TB12, but damm we have not done a great job getting guys ready until they HAVE to be ready.

His stock is up and he made throws we haven't seen down the field since Kizer

Credit to JJ—he’s been super inconsistent hitting deep throws all year and he was money today. Harbaugh called a good game for him and Jim Knowles gave an assist by being a dumbass, but JJ still delivered.

McCarthy made no mistakes and did a good job hitting WRs who were wide open, because Ohio State was so spooked by Michigan's running game that they inexplicably played tight man with no safeties the whole game.
I guess you could say he did to Ohio State what Pyne couldn't do to Navy.

Who cares. We have USC on our plate right now and that’s all that matters a lot of shake up today. Let’s hope our team can finish it off. Go Irish.

If McCarthy is our QB we are at worst 11-1. The Stanford game was 100% on Pyne and the Marshall game was on Buchner/Rees/OL. We missed wide open layups for TDs in both games that any competent QB hits.

There’s nothing McCarthy has shown that makes him the difference between win and loss vs Marshall. They almost lost literally one week ago because a completely stagnant passing game. McCarthy was the QB that couldn’t hit the wide open guys literally a week ago. Getting a bit caught up.

Pyne has gotten better minus the navy game but he’s probally left 50-60 points on the board from missing wide open guys

What could have been staff was too focused on keying in Buchner when we could of had McCarthy

Yeah, I’ve been pretty bullish that JJ was just a product of a great OL and running attack, but he’s made plays the last couple weeks. He’s a nice QB for what they’re doing offensively at UM.
