Defense saved this game, Tommy and Pyne tried their best to sink it.

If he ever sees the field at ND again after this season it is not a good thing. He is a 3rd or 4th string D1 qb.

Tale of two halves. I'm not sure what Drew was looking at when they were just blitzing non-stop, maybe there weren't open receivers. But man, call an audible or something, change the look... get a receiver in the flat. Do what you can to help yourself in those situations.

Three more games then this experiment can thankfully end.
It's not an "experiment." It's a worst-case scenario. No one ever intended Drew Pyne to be our season-long starting QB, it took years of mis-steps and calamities to make this happen. But either way only three games left.

But unfortunately this is a "Teachable Moment" or Growing Pain for Marcus Freeman. I hope the lesson learned is invite all the best QBs you can and have a very stuffed QB Room and let them fight it out for the Starter position. No more "All-In" or lets not take a transfer that might "upset the apple-cart."

This is ND. Being the QB at ND used to be pretty fucking special. I love the Guinness ads with Joe Montana being the Old Bull....kid asked if he was in sports and he said "Something like that, kid"

We have Carr coming in two cycles but good lord the rest of this team is fairly strong but we are missing at least one good if not two good QBs.

ND should never recruit out of fear or insecurity. If TB or DP want to transfer, so be it. "Next Up" should be the Mantra. But they need to keep the QB room more full than it is today.

We need a grad transfer, and a '23 (even if he's a three-star currently committed to a school that we look down upon), and a wide open competition this spring that includes Buchner and Angeli and even Drew Pyne. Full QB room and best man wins the job. It's the only move.

I think at this point we all just need to breathe.

Drew Pyne is going to be the QB. It’s very apparent that Angeli must not be ready.

It is what it is. Pyne played a great first half. He played an equally poor second half.

Rees takes some blame for Pyne’s development, okay. Rees takes some blame that Pyne is even in there due to roster composition, fine. But it isn’t Rees’s fault that Pyne just blatantly refuses to check it down and lock onto the first read.

I really think Pyne is so self cautious about his height and the launch angle of his passes over the middle that he locks onto those deep receivers because he can achieve the necessary angle to complete that pass without worrying about a tipped ball.

We’re winning with him, though, and I’m gonna just enjoy the wins. Maybe we all should lol.

I really can't understand how you recruit this kid.
No disrespect to Pyne but he is not talented enough for Notre Dame
He had a lot of offers, including Bama. Not defending him, but plenty of programs wanted him. He has a few moments of semi-greatness, but way too many WTF moments.

They offered him early. When he quit growing teams back off of him and the offers weren’t going to be offers that would accept his commitment.

This has been discussed here numerous times.

We recruited him when he also has serious interest from the likes of Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma. He jumped for us pretty early. Then he stopped growing and his ceiling became apparent.. But we, as as a general rule, do not recruit over committed players. For better/worse. So here we are.

He should not be included in any competition for a starting job next year. He should be 4th string at best and they should flat out let him know. He had his dream come true and plenty of chances and time to get better but he clearly hasn’t. He will and hopefully should be a big part of why the great Tom Rees gets shown the door. Pyne sucks but he doesn’t lack heart he just isn’t smart enough and definitely isn’t good enough. He is NOT doing the most with what he has or he would be taking off running more often. At least he threw the ball to some receivers this week. It’s shameful to allow that second half to infold. Marcus Freeman gets a D+ so far this year. Tommy gets a D- and Drew atone gets a D. Everyone else on the offense gets a B but Diggs, Estime and Mayer get A’s. D gets a B (not today they get a C- or D+ if not worse.

I don’t know what it is, but it’s like he literally refuses to look for the short game outside of Mayer. If you are being rushed every play, THROW TO THE FKIN RB. They have proven plenty to be able to catch.

Get in the film room, get screamed at, have a good week of practice and find a way to beat BC. That’s the goal this weekend, find a way. Send the seniors out with a W.

On this unbelievable catch by Lenzy, he beats his guy by 5 yards. The pass is late and so underthrown that he had to make a contested circus catch.

They have 8 guys on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. Not in 8 "in the box".... 8 literally on the line of scrimmage. The other three are playing 8 yards off the LOS in man-to-man coverage. The ball should've left Pyne's hands as soon as he planted his back foot on the 3 step drop. Instead, he waits to feel the pressure -> scrambles -> underthrows it.

Look at the play call though. Not one of those receivers is doing a quick slant or going to the flat. It looks like madden 4 Verts. Further on the throw, you see at least 2 other receivers 30 yards down field. Meaning there essentially is no check down. It’s “everyone go deep, try to get open” backyard football bs calls.

I feel like you could make a 5 minute montage of Lenzy being wide open this year and the ball being thrown way off target. Guy gets a lot of heat on here but I think he’s been the biggest victim (numbers wise) of our poor QB play.

Even the deep ball over the middle to Thomas was thrown terribly. Thomas had his man beat, if the ball is put out front then he gets this in for a TD.
