To recap: MSNBC televises that a red wave will result in:
  • elimination of democracy
  • arrests and potential killing of children
  • a brutal authoritarian system
I applaud you for sneaking away from your party line, but you have to admit that this is more than just "seeming hyperbolic"

If the elections are a red wave, and I quote this post in 6 months, and none of that happens, will you admit that the segment was baseless fearmongering?

And finally to confirm: despite Chris Hayes agreeing with these three points, you trust MSNBC more than James O'Keefe, correct?

(Not a Dem supporter FTR, just more of views align with them then the other options)

Isn't this typical stuff for these news segments? I mean what do you expect to be on MSNBC? Of course it's fearmongering.

Until Chris Hayes gets criminally charged, yes he will be more reliable than anyone from PV.

I think Dems keep the Senate and add a seat (PA), making it 51-49. I don't want it to happen, but I think it'll happen because of the horrific slate of candidates that the GOP had emerge from the primaries. I also don't have any faith in the American electorate. They say that they're concerned with inflation, the economy, the border, crime, and give Biden approval ratings in the low 40's on average, but I don't really buy it. I don't think they'll back up their concerns with how they vote. My guess is GOP underperforms in the House as well and only picks up 20 or so seats.

It is a bit concerning that many (Not all) Democrats don't seem too concerned about this election, and Biden has already said prepare for votes to be counted for a number of days after election night is over. It's almost like they know something that we don't. Maybe they think Roe v Wade will be enough to power them over the finish line over other issues, but right now word is many suburban moms are going Red.

Crime Rate is an important statistic, but so is total number of violent crimes.
New York is #4 in total violent crimes at 70,339.
Oklahoma is #24 in total violent crimes at 18,255.
So yes, statistically you're more likely to have a violent crime in Oklahoma based on Crime Rate, but there's also nearly 4 times more violent crimes in New York overall. I'm guessing that's mostly in the bigger cities like NYC and not so much the suburbs and rural areas.

Just saying I can see why New Yorkers, especially ones that probably live in the cities, would be more worried about violence than in Oklahoma. For context, Oklahoma's biggest city is Oklahoma City at 687,000. NYC is sitting at 8,467,000. There's a lot more people crammed into one area.

The crime thing is a tough deal for me. Lived in Manhattan for two years. Generally wasn't worried. But I was in good places. Kips Bay and the Financial District are good spots. Lots of foot traffic. Not a great place to commit crime.

The biggest thing about crime I think is a victim only needs to experience it once. Or to witness it. Democrat messaging on it has been to downplay it. Republican messaging has been to fix it. Regardless of where crime happens (red or blue areas), whoever at least pretends to care more will have a better message.

In the NY governor debate, Kathy Hochul straight up said "I don't know why this is so important to you." Crime isn't a red or blue thing. It's an everyone thing. That attitude will push away voters.

They'll figure this out next week. Defund the police and blue state bail reform, both products of the racial justice movement have done nothing to make this country safer. Police know that if a bad situation with a person that the MSM will cover goes south, they will be fried on air the city will burn. Crime isn't going to get better until we go in a different direction.
In the mean time, people with 25 priors can walk the streets.

When I say dems are working to sabotage America, it's not an unsupported statement...

This guy aggressively interrupts a Beto campaign event, rightfully gets thrown out, provides minimal resistance from falling down while getting dragged out, creates a social media post saying he was assaulted, and tries to make himself out like a victim.

That said, the dudes that were yanking him out were pulling him into someone in a wheelchair. They were stupid too.

Political fanaticism leads to dehumanization. People view each other as adversaries instead of simply someone with a different viewpoint. There are sick people on both sides.

Jason Bateman tells Biden to use emergency alert system to urge Americans to vote because democracy is under 'existential threat' from Republicans

On the Wednesday edition of the SmartLess podcast, Biden sat down with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett to discuss his career and current state of the country. During the conversation, Bateman proposed a unique idea to encourage more Americans to head to the voting polls next Tuesday.

"With the midterms on our doorstep. Okay. Two thirds of the seats that are up for grabs and the midterms are trending to be won by admitted election deniers. And then that means that elections and consequently democracy as a form of government will most likely be done away with or could be seriously threatened. This is what they’re saying that their plan is once elected. So doesn’t that current real forecast, even declaration, justify some kind of emergency alert that asks for maximum attention and participation from every single voter in America?”

“Could I ask you to commit to consider over the next few days using your unique power as president to utilize the emergency alert system? It’s usually for the weather or killers or kidnapping, whatever. But I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to categorize this as, as a light crisis, an existential threat.

I guess part of the agreement is that if you want Biden on your show, you must propagate the fearmongering narrative of election deniers and existential threat to American democracy. If this is their play, it's peak desperation. But it's also sad that the general American public is stupid enough to believe these claims.

Oof, yes, the Emergency Alert System to get people out to vote. That's about as bad as using the SPR to prop up gas prices before an election. The fear mongering really is bad this cycle. Everyday idiots like Rob Reiner or AOC are stoking the fire talking about how democracy dies this year if people don't vote. I dont know who the GOP equivalent is, probably MTG or Cruz. I'm old enough to remember when Trump was going to bring us nuclear war the first week he's in office.

Eskamani is a House rep from Florida, doubled down with hypocrisy. I don't think she understands how DefiantL's operates. The context fact check at the bottom was good for a laugh.

Don Jr. is having a blast with this Pelosi stuff. Tickling him funny

In other news:

Yes, technically SS would go away, but it would be replaced with a better run model so there's that which many seem to lose sight of.

Introduced in House (08/31/2021)

Supreme Court Term Limits and Regular Appointments Act of 2021

This bill establishes staggered, 18-year terms for Supreme Court Justices and limits the Senate's advice and consent authority in relation to the appointment of Justices.

Specifically, the bill requires the President to appoint a Supreme Court Justice every two years. If the appointment of a Justice would result in more than nine Justices on the Court, then the nine most junior Justices shall make up the panel of Justices exercising judicial power in cases and controversies. Further, any Justice who has served a total of 18 years is deemed retired from regular service and may continue to serve as a Senior Justice. Senior Justices may continue to perform judicial duties assigned to them by the Chief Justice. However, no Justice appointed before the date of enactment shall be counted towards such panel, nor shall they be required to retire from regular active service.

In the event of a vacancy on the Court, the Chief Justice must assign the Justice most recently designated as a Senior Justice to serve on the Court until the appointment of a new Justice.

Additionally, the Senate's advice and consent authority is waived if the Senate does not act within 120 days of a Justice's nomination
I wonder why this wasn't proposed back when RBG was still sitting or even before Kavanaugh? lol

ATL, NO and here in Birmingham……violent crime is bad news. These cities do all have liberal mayors and much of the crime is black on black unfortunately. The murders especially are terrible. I’m not making a judgement, just saying what I see/read.
Same here in Indy. Crime was going up and the mayor still got reelected. Now it's on a pace this city hasn't seen before. Part of it is a prosecutor problem.

Yeah, I'm just not real trusting of "replace it with something better" without more details. A lot more details.

It will never happen. The fine line between people with pensions and people without is inching closer to retirement age. I fully expect a generation unprepared to retire to all hit and create a new crisis with an underfunded SS. The generation that needs its student loans paid for is also likely to go cite how unfair life was and need a retirement bailout too. I don't want this, but I'm willing to bet SS gets an overhaul to the bigger side before it ever gets replaced.

I think that odds are in favor of it being a Republican blowout given late movement across virtually all reputable polls.

Roe v Wade is an existential motivator but mostly for people who already voted blue. A lot of anti-Trump suburban Republicans are more than happy to come back into the fold to vote against "woke." Some of the conversations I have with parents of prospects I recruit to the Catholic school I coach at are very revealing... public education is fucked and a lot of people still hold a grudge over COVID school closures, etc.

I live below sea level so that is a problem for underground bunkers. I have been stocking up on deer blinds, weapons and ammo along with sweet potatoes and jerky. #HungerGames

Not disagreeing with you but I have seen where polls are really unable to quantify how many young voters are voting. It seems to me they will vote overwhelmingly Democrat and the spread could be as much as 12-15% higher than previous elections from "takes" Ive seen.

Ive also seen "takes" that the GOP is flooding the public with their own polls showing large margins. Ive seen a few dem polls showing +5 leads for Warnock and a lot of recent GOP Polls showing +5 Walker Leads.

Not sure I trust any of the polls at the present.

White Women in Suburban areas, most likely to run me over with their car in a store parking lot. Almost, quite literally, happens to me 1-3 times a week where I live. Just going to start ordering everything on Amazon.

Probably for the Grind Your Gears thread, but Jesus Touchdown Christ, you're in a store parking lot. Slow TF down.

I got poll fatigue well over a month ago. Stopped looking at them and knocked on doors instead for local county board and state rep candidates. Let me tell you, I had some conversations that could have made it on Comedy Central. For the most part, though, people are pretty cool. Just wildly unware.

My cousin used to be a statistician for a Senator.
His job: identify issues and positions that would garner the largest swings in votes.

Manufactured narratives are a foundational piece of politics.

I'm guessing Dem Senate and Republican House. The fun starts Wedensday evening into the rest of next week either way.

My county board is going to be way more important. No idea how that is going to go. We also have a Republican up for County Treasurer who legally changed his name with CPA at the end of it.

He was former County Board Chair and....get this....stole over 500 files he had no business taking when he left that office.

I’m told that the crime is a conspiracy theory. That would be a cherry on top.

I’m also told that political violence is a right wing thing after a GOP candidate got his house shot up last weekend, we see the teachers are doing great.

I don't believe these polls showing the GOP Senate candidates ahead in PA, GA, NV, and even NH. I think the Democrats win all of those states in addition to AZ.
