The jersey thing is nice but 40 other schools got it as well so not really “closing the gap”.
Assuming ND fans buy more or even as many jerseys, It is closing the gap. It's a simple math issue at this point. If A&M was at 25 and we were at 5 it's a worse situation than if A&M goes to 50 and we go to 30. I'm sure it's a smaller drop in the bucket, but each legitimate avenue helps our cause tremendously if the boosters never come to bat.

No Estime jerseys though...
Interesting--there's no Diggs either. But there is a Tyree:

Edit: Seems a lot of players are missing actually.

Premium from ISD. Great interview with Brady Quinn. Mike Frank says after the article that some athletes are making well over 6 figures from FUND.

My biggest takeaway is that the University is what is holding FUND back from doing more because they are following the NCAA guidance because there is no NIL laws in Indiana. My sense is once there is federal regulation, we will see FUND do a lot more.

Doubt we'll ever see the admin get out of its own way TBH...

I disagree but the problem right now is they won’t get out of their own way which will have ripple effects for some time. No one is enforcing anything but they always gotta play holier than thou. By the time they do get out of their own way, it’ll only be a matter of time until the other teams are doing something new and more effective.

My thing is this. What's stopping Brady Quinn and FUND from doing more?

I'm sure the admin has reservations about diving deeper into the NIL waters, but if the FUND wanted to do more, like say, start pushing NIL stuff to recruits, what's stopping them?

ND can't do anything about it.

In theory yes, in practice it’s still administration - booster relations.

Quinn is directly quoted as saying the FUND will not contact recruits or potential transfers. Says he isn't going to put his or the University's or anyone else's reputation at risk as all of those activities are illegal from the FUND's point of view. This shouldn't come to a surprise to anyone.

Being rule following dorks is what's stopping it. We need a second FUND with blackjack and hookers.

Well, somebody should tell them FUND's POV is incorrect.

If it were illegal, then why is literally everybody doing it and doing so publicly without repercussions?

As Colin said, they are rule following dorks. Since there is no local legislation, they are following the NCAA guidance. Once their is local or federal legislation, they will follow that.

New guidelines just issued today laying out what schools/collectives can and cannot do:

New NIL Guidance

Long story short, ND and FUND can do a hell of a lot more than they thought they could. Hopefully since it is now so black and white they will stop being such baby back bitches about it.

Completely agree. I'm getting sick of the "Holier than thou" attitude. I also believe we are already seeing this with a lot of teams.

The problem is that ND can no longer hide behind the "holier than thou" attitude.

What's going on now has legislation specifying that it is allowed. If ND doesn't act on that legislation, it would be for greed and nothing more, and there's no hiding from that fact.

ND is all talk right now about wanting to compete with the elite programs. Until they start changing their views and participating the way the other top schools do with this NiL type programs might as well join the MAC because that will be the talent pool they will be fishing for. Bringing in five-star talent has always been difficult at ND and with NiL offers during the recruiting by other schools it will become impossible for ND to land those program changing types.

Find it interesting that a lot of the old school players on radio are openly laughing at the s-show that A & M has become. I think there are more than a few that are wishing this NiL crap blows up and A & M is the poster child.

I don't really think it's sustainable to pay tons of money upfront for unproven teenagers. I think paying $$ for proven transfers is the most efficient use of resources, as well as compensating producing players on your team. Maybe you can buy 1-2 key HS players a year like a QB or other impact skill player and have it work, but A&M's approach to roster construction is/was insane.

Worth noting that the only two recruits we have clearly lost to NIL this cycle are a QB and a pass rusher. The two most impactful positions on the field.
But yeah I agree. Throwing money at high school kids is dumb. And at some level sends a terrible message to your existing players.

But in this case, the boosters have the power.

They're the ones with the money. ND being worried that a few million from fans/boosters/alums going to NIL is going to drastically affect their bottomline is Mr. Krabs levels of cheapness.

They have the 8th largest endowment of any school in the f*cking country. They're far from strapped for cash.

You deserve a brew for bringing up Mr. Krabs. I bonded with my children when they were young watching SpongeBob. I would always make them giggle imitating him about being cheap.

Sounds great on paper, but the endowment isn’t a piggy bank for the Athletic department.

Didn’t want to litter a prospect thread with likely BS, but a KSU fan in that thread for yesterday says Edwards was promised $350,000 a year by ND lol
