But in this case, the boosters have the power.

They're the ones with the money. ND being worried that a few million from fans/boosters/alums going to NIL is going to drastically affect their bottomline is Mr. Krabs levels of cheapness.

They have the 8th largest endowment of any school in the f*cking country. They're far from strapped for cash.

What do you mean?

If the endowment is not meant to improve the university, then what is it for?

I'm saying that because they have such a massive endowment, they shouldn't lose sleep if fans/boosters/alums prioritize a few million of that aggregate money they're donating to FUND or other ND related NIL collectives.

I'm saying that ND gets donations up the wazzu every single year to the point where they have the privilege to have one of the largest endowments of any school in the country.

If an administrator is afraid to publicize collectives and facilitate players making NIL connections because they think it will take away from the endowment, they need to go. That hypocrisy would be off the charts.

I mean every school is worried about this to some extent. NIL didn’t create new boosters. The money going to something new naturally has to divert from somewhere prior. Especially if you assume you weren’t paying recruits to start.

Any reason why this isn’t making more headway with publicity during games? Didn’t the NCAA rule it can be promoted by schools?

Yeah the schools can do a lot more than previously thought.

Schools do not have to distance themselves from collectives at all. They can solicit donations. They can actually even set up meetings for players with collectives on campus. The only thing that is expressly prohibited is negotiating deals on th player’s behalf.

A lot of schools are in the process of building new NIL facilities just for this purpose. Clemson is one of them I know.

Yup. ND is trying to pretend they’re not in the NIL game for some reason when in reality FUND as of October had raised over $10MM. Maybe they think soliciting donations in the stadium is beneath them for some reason. Hoping they do more in 2023 to keep up.

Yeah hopefully this is top of the agenda for gameday integration. There’s enough damn videos about literally anything other than football during the game, god forbid they work in something the fans care about that can directly help the football team they paid to watch.

Something about “not selling our souls”, which no one has been able to give me a good definition to date. They’ve had no such sense of shame asking for money since I graduated—really don’t understand where they make the moral distinction.

Imagine the 50/50 raffle at the games. Half goes to a better football team, which has brought us all here together today and half to whatever ND wants to do in Africa or whatever

Pro-rate it toward the different causes that the ND players champion

Brady endorsing Pate’s description of generic unnamed school that sounds a whole lot like Notre Dame

Wake me up when f.u.n.d.s. aren't low.
Get used to it boys, 5 stars require money.
Don't make excuses for the BOT and administration..They keep your favorite program down and always will. 11 Championships is how it ends.

Unless we get a rogue booster who tells ND BOT to Fuck right off

Gtfoh with this bullshit. How many 5 stars end up not really doing shit in college? You want to pay them for what they may do? Fuck that, pay them when they actually prove themselves.

Get back at me when Keon Keeley gets picked in the first round in 3 years, Or when Bowen is an all American or goes to the NFL. Your way leads to zero future National Championships. Even if it's a 50 percent coin flip, it's still worth the investment. Sorry I didn't know that you or a family was on the BOT or administration. I say Gtfoh with them

I genuinely can’t make sense of these reported “NIL deals” and can’t imagine there is an ROI for most of them. Most Instagram influencers with 100k followers make like $500 per post and these are influencers who have an extremely good fit with a target market.

I’d be shocked if there were 10 guys in CFB that actually deliver 500k in endorsement value annually. The prospect of some freshman like Dylan Edwards pitching Mission BBQ is almost parody.

We should just accept NIL for the bag dropping that it is. Adapt or die while praying for actual legislation that regulates this craziness.

Would that not be the responsibility of the school that they enrolled in and play for? Because it is unlikey to be ours if thats the policy.

A signing bonus is a fairly well accepted concept when hiring new employees (who quite often dont meet expectations too).
