While I think CJ has the best chance to be “the guy” than any QB we’ve recruited recently. I do think we need to stop making room for “the guy”. We need to just assume we don’t have one, until one emerges. Something I’ve been saying for a while now is we need to drastically increase the competition for the QB position. Take two in a class (two legitimate QB’s). Get some transfers. Whatever it takes. The expectation needs to be set that the QB at ND is one of the top 3-5 best positions in college football. We’re not even close to that right now.
This is exactly where I'm at. They have to flip someone in the 2023 class regardless of what Carr decides. If Carr does reclassify to 2023, you sign two and still go for a 2024 guy. Play the transfer market as well.

It's business. Treat it as such. Every summer it's an open competition. If the starter the year before gets beat out by the new shiny freshman toy, so be it. If a transfer comes in and knocks off the shiny toy the following year, ok.

Competition breeds success. You saw it with Clemson and Alabama. Bryant and Hurts did nothing wrong. They simply got beat out by better guys who were younger because it was an open competition. Your loyalty is to your job and not losing it so your family doesn't have to move. Play the best guy.

Whether it’s with Rees or whomever, already over a year till signing day and we’ll have our “what could have been QBs” committed to Georgia and Alabama possibly. No pressure CJ.

Also Sayin following Bryce Young following Tua is a shot to the too small crew. Who cares if they are 6’1 if they have a cannon for an arm.

I don’t actually have an opinion on either of them as it relates to the other, but brother if we all can’t see this coming from a mile away.

Shorter with talent obviously beats shorter with minimal talent.

The talent part really factors into it, regardless of how tall your QB is.

Exactly, I don't even understand why this needs to be said. Obviously Kyler Murray >>> Drew Pyne.

I mean clearly lol. The point was more short with talent can be just as good if not better than tall with talent.

There were folks opposed to Sayin due to his stature. Now he’s possibly going to Alabama.

I think the idea is that a bigger guy can take more of a beating, but then again QBs don't take beatings like they used to. (Thanks, Tom Brady).
The spread has truly been the great equilizer in the Bush/Gore Century since the game changed. Just get me the guys with the skills in college who can get it done. The NFL seems to be adapting as well.

A lot of speculation that Sayin will commit to Bama soon. That would be three 4 Star QBs in the next two classes. Somebody is not going to stick.

Whoever follows Bryce Young is going to have their work cut out for them. Sorry, a bit off topic but that’s the first thought that bounced into my head.

Gross. I was all in on Sayin being our '23 QB. And, I was even a little upset when it was reported by Loy that Carr was the guy and they likely wouldn't push for a guy until they got a better read on Carr. However, post Carr commitment, I did the internet sleuth thing and came away even more impressed with Carr. I'm all in on Carr and feel really good about that right now. BUT, I'd be lying if I didn't say there is a small part of me that feels like I'm going to regret this post, lol.

What you don’t fully trust the judgement of Rees in these matters?

Someone needs to tell Saban that he’s not allowed to recruit QBs like this.

Bama has the first best class and two QB's in 2023 and now Sayin for 2024. They are deep at QB and have no easy path to playing time. Percentage chance that all of those kids see substantial playing time at Bama very low. Notre Dame has the third best class and nobody for 2023, a wide open QB room, and offers a high chance of not just PT, but early PT. It's really something.

Gonna be weird to see the new OC at Alabama be the guy who passed on their current QB commit for someone else at his last school.
