38 lined up as the Hback. The defender attacked the hole nicely and blew the play up IMO.Who's this Sherwood cat?
I'm (very cautiously) optimistic too. I do think there was marked improvement in the OLine, and as Irish#1 points out, that play was Harry getting through to Big Fish. Plus, the three running backs absolutely ran like there was no tomorrow--Estime in particular being a fucking bowling ball.He still looks like he's trying to get back into the swing of things after missing all the time rehabbing. I'm hoping with another week we'll have a lethal 3 headed monster at RB to go into the stretch run.
Serious question....do I need to pump my brakes with the optimism after watching Saturday lol??
Former walk-on that was given the scholarship vacated by Davis' injury. He is listed as tight end/FULLBACK!!Who's this Sherwood cat?
I was gonna say, the first couple of games, the only time I noticed him stand out it was a glaringly bad play by him...I haven't seen that too much the past two days, and he stood out in a big way on Saturday on a couple of occasions.I re-watched the game last night focusing on #54 quite a bit. He has a few moments where he seems to be done after his block, but overall he's beginning to stay engaged in the play until the whistle blows. That's Harry getting through to him.
That play was half on Sherwood, half on Blake. Sherwood doesn't hold his block long enough and Blake lets his man get outside and loses contain, that forces Diggs to bump further outside to try and get something out of that play.
I was just impressed Diggs and Fish were able to turn a 2 yard loss into a 6 yard gain when all was said and done. Looked like he was going to get brought down in the backfield early. That is correct. Play is designed to go to blakes left, but the backer run blitzes amd sherwood gets stood up in the hole and Diggs recognizes it early and tries to bounce.I really don't think you can assign blame to Blake on that play. It looks like the play is to follow Sherwood through the hole to Blake's left. Blake needs to get his guy occupied without allowing him to the inside. You can't fault Blake for not completing a reach block when the play doesn't call for it lol
It sounds like he has gotten a bit lazy, which is what a few talking heads were saying. He was dominant in the practices and few games he saw from last year. Hopefully Harry gets him sorted out soon, he's been a favorite from the get go.That is correct. Blakes biggest issue has been not sustaining blocks in the run game and using good leverage and power. He makes initial contact but for as big as he is he is not doing a good job of staying engaged and driving. He is allowing his defender to release way too soon and easily.
A very nice all purpose backHe looked really sharp and needs to stay healthy.
He hit the hole hard and fast today which isn't his norm.He looked really sharp and needs to stay healthy.
Coaching. He hit the hole hard and fast today which isn't his norm.
Maybe the depth in the RB room is making him more aggressive with his carries?
Either way, he looked more explosive than last year.

Pretty sure I heard my wife tell her friend the same thing on the phone last night…He hit the hole hard and fast today which isn't his norm.

People overreacted after he had a subpar performance in the Fiesta Bowl, a game where we were never going to have huge success running the ball. And then he had two meh games to open this year while recovering from injury and with terrible OL play. He looked really good last year.Needs to be said, I'm glad the coaching staff didn't give up on him and it certainly appears Diggs hasn't given up on himself. Sometimes a player needs some time.
Well said. I thought Diggs would be our starter last year based on his every down capabilities, but I really like what we've done with all 3 backs this year. Couple the run game with the Play Action we've been doing and we could be on the verge of a very dangerous offense. I think we're still a WR or two away, but I'm excited to see what we're going to put together once the new recruits get to campus in the next few years. Till then, it's been fun to see this team progress from where they started.People overreacted after he had a subpar performance in the Fiesta Bowl, a game where we were never going to have huge success running the ball.
