I’m not sure Notre Dame played any better tonight with Marcus Freeman then they would’ve with Kelly. It’s pretty clear this is gonna take 2 to 3 years for Freeman to figure this out with Tommy Rees. The problem with Freeman may be that he has no confidence in the offensive side of the ball.

And now Friedman has a very veteran defensive coordinator in Al Golden.

This could create a situation where an inexperienced head coach like Freeman won’t be strong and making adjustments in the game because he doesn’t have confidence in his ability on the offensive side of the ball and he has a very veteran defensive coordinator

'22 was never going to be the year. WR group is too weak, too many unknowns with Buchner still, OL still needs work. We've got to get some more play makers, get some of these new recruits in and coach these young Sophomores up some more. The WR group has been a liability for at least 3 seasons now, and the OL had been trending downward. It's going to take time. After we get some of these new recruits in I'm looking at '23 or '24.

Year 3 seems to be the number. Without Manti's weird situation and the fantom call on the punt in the first quarter...2013 Championship Game,.. We might be looking at a Kelly led team still... I'm happy with MF running around talking to the officiating crew like he should...
'24 Is the Year we finally do It. Hopefully my heart can take It

1-2 Might be a good time to switch QB's. Moxy Drew might need a few reps against Marshall. JS

The adjustment is a new OC.

What OC is going to perform well with this OL and a struggling & thin WR group? Buchner may have accuracy issues too. We're young on offense and lacking talent in spots. That's a recipe for disaster when you're facing a very good defensive coordinator who has five 5 stars and twenty-six 4 stars on defense to work with.

2 games in a row with tons of time to game plan and in the second halves the offense lays an egg. He can't recruit that well and his game plan was not good. This offense will not beat top teams.

Of course this offense won't beat top teams. Were you expecting they would? We've got 5-6 Sophomores starting, an OL with communication issues, systemic problems at WR, and question marks with a young QB starting for the first time in a hostile environment. This team is still a year or two away from seeing the gains from recruiting and positional coach changes. They'll get better, but under no circumstances was there going to be an offensive explosion tonight. tOSU had too much talent and a major upgrade at DC.

I really think that Freeman has his eye on the prize.

And…he’s going to brand the fuck out of ND. 8 to 13 year old kids at the mall will be rocking ND again. Not just your old fuck like me.

ND is going to be “cool” again if that makes sense. That’s a big deal when attracting young talent.

You are not accounting for how awful Tommy Reese was with his playcalling! This loss is on the offensive coordinator. No screens no roll outs of the QB running when he should be passing no trust in his quarterback!

Wow you really are protecting Tommy Rees! This or offensive coordinator is awful where was any place to Meriwether? Why is Salerno the focus of the receiving core? No screens? Running up the middle three times in the middle of the field at the end of the game? The playcalling was awful

Exactly! We hold Ohio State to 21 points and we still lose by 11! Stop blaming Brian Kelly and start blaming Notre Dame for attaining Tommy Reese before hiring Marcus Freeman! Get a highly experienced offensive coordinator in and we will be a better team.

The man is fucking cool. No way around it. And he appears to be a wholesome family man too.

He's a home run that moms around the country will want their kids to play for.

Huh?
Tommy didn't just show unlike Golden. He's the reason there's a lack of talent on that side of the ball.

I agree ND could run the table the rest of this year. We didn't open up with Utah St. like Alabama or Rice like USC.

ND played on the road vs. potential champion Ohio St. and covered the spread.

No way we beat Clemson with this offense. No chance. Not unless it improves drastically. We only scored 10 and Clemson defense is even better. How are Utah put up 45 in that defense last year. This O is going to struggle Against any top 10 team.

Idiotic take. "No trust in his [first-time starter at] quarterback" on the road against #2 OSU at night? Had he done what you suggested and Buchner threw a couple picks, you'd be roasting him for expecting too much of the kid and not committing to the run.

We game planned around our OL being able to control the LOS. That's one of the few areas we recruit better than OSU, and their front-seven was inconsistent last year. It wasn't just a good plan, it was the only game plan that gave us a decent chance at winning. With Patterson out, our IOL sucked, and OSU got pressure up the middle all night. That we couldn't reliably move the ball in 12 and 13 personnel is an indictment of our OL.

Guys like Lugg simply shouldn't be playing with the way we recruit the position. But that's not on Tommy.

He doesn’t play defense. Our defense looked great
I know he doesn't play defense; I think our defense can hang with their offense and if our offense can do enough they can win the game.

This guy says it a lot better than me

If we’d opened up last night then our young stud would have thrown a few pick sixes. Killed his confidence

Let’s take the lump, on the road, vs #2 in the land. Regroup, then come back better.

It’s not Tommy’s fault (I don’t think) that Tyler has no one to throw to.
