I just can’t get over how bad the entire offensive unit looked..

Everything was rushed bc the OL was a mess.. no running game.. no signs of Styles or Colzie.. no plays in space.. nothing.

Same BS.. For the life of me I can’t understand why ND can’t develop a QB..

Our D gave this O a chance to win the game.. all they had to do was be mediocre & they peaked at awful,.

I’m disgusted.. Tommy is in over his head.

In other words, if ND's staff coached for Ohio State, and Ohio State's staff coached for ND, the score would've been worse.

The offense was bad. I pin 99% on the OL, hopefully because Patterson was out. As far as QB development, ugh, nevermind. Let's just give up on Buchner, he sucked the last time he started (3 years ago), and move on the next guy we loved before he was even on campus. /s

there is no way OSU is the second best team in the nation. They seemed ordinary to me. Georgia, Bama, probably Clemson.

I am with the crew that thinks Buchner has a heck of a lot of improving to do. He looked pretty bad at throwing and a bit slower than I hoped running.
Not so sure as I was impressed with the new revamped OSU defense. They've had none the last two years. OSU would have lost a game like this the last two years. They'll score points - give ND credit. Quite simply OSU took over the game in the 2nd half with physical football - something they've lacked in recent years

If Brian Kelly is the coach, do we win?
Score is 28-10 OSU at half because Brian Kelly can't get the boys to believe. The players believed for 55 minutes. And that's progress. Not scoring a TD on that first drive was the difference to me. If ND finds a way to get in there. I believe ND wins that game. They contained a guy who just threw for 600 yards in the Rose bowl his last game to some pedestrian numbers

At the end of the day, ND went into one of the most hostile environments in all of college football and shut down one of the most explosive offenses in the country for 3 quarters. We have a first year starter at qb who looked very poised and didn’t make any mistakes and a first year HC who, in my opinion did a very good job. So how about you all settle the f’ck down. Things will be alright.

tbh I can forgive most of the evening but I just cannot get past the play where Salerno got called for OPI. Why is he out there in that spot? Can Merriweather not be out there and run that same route? That play was the beginning of the end.

Also, I wasn’t super impressed with our PR/KOR teams. Cincy guru has some work to do bc that shit was bad. Let Joseph return a damn punt.

How do you explain the play calling other than Tommy knowing he doesnt have “The Guy”?

Either that or like I said he’s in over his head.. Buchner has been touted as the most prepared guy in the locker room.. Did that look prepared to you?

He’s been in the system for a few years now.. there’s plenty of QBs that step in with his experience & thrive. Why TF can’t we get an elite athlete at QB to play at an elite level?

The offensive drives were pitiful.. Patterson missing hurts but they were blitzing LBs relentlessly & Tommy didn’t call a single screen.. 1st & 25? 3 runs into the line..

It was bizarre play calling at best but if you don’t believe in ur QB or ur OLs ability to pass protect I guess you end up with that.

Our WRs seemed very overmatched.
This. I was hoping that Styles would have a big game like Ok St. Dunno if it was just too much too soon for Buchner, or if our WRs just got shut down, or a little of both. Mayer had more catches than all of our WRs combined. 3 receptions by WRs doesn't cut the mustard. tOSU had 22 receptions by WRs and that was without some of their best weapons like JSN out all game.

Merriweather? Colzie? Did either one get any snaps tonight?

No. It's the IT factor I spoke of years ago,... when everyone hated Tommy. He could at least make the offense work the field. I love Tommy, and the newness of his abilities on this end of the spectrum.. TB Is not a championship QB.
Again you are basing this off of ONE start. Just give it sometime and let the offense get in sync. Come Clemson game if we still look like this offense then I’ll be worried. Right now I’m looking at it glass half full and just looking to next week

I thought they played well for the most part.

O-line had some rough patches, and as others have mentioned the play calling, especially in key moments, left much to be desired.

I feel better about this team now than I did before the game.

Yep. Before the game I would've bet on/predicted a 10-12 point loss. But that was figuring on Ohio State scoring 30-40 points. Our defense kept us right in it until the second half of the fourth quarter. The offense couldn't capitalize on that.

Freeman gives you the keys to the Ford Focus that is our offense…what do you do differently?
Scrap all Kelly "spread principles" to start. No more slow developing run plays. Don't have toss plays to your best between the tackles runner. More plays with QB under center. Play action. Run slants, use the middle of the field. Runs screens. Among other things. The scheme is just not good and it hasn't been good for years. The run game in particular is poorly designed and our OL who are supposed to be talented can never consistently execute it. Rees only knows Kelly ball and it's a problem.

The play calling was sad.. we weren’t establishing a run until TB proved he could throw the ball & our OL wasn’t giving him time.

So instead of throwing screens or quick outs/slants we try QB runs.. We needed to establish a passing game to open up the run..

Ford Focus is generous. If our OL is the frame/body we're rusty with holes and leaks. If the WRs are the wheels we're running on flats or just plain missing some tires. If our QB is the engine it's sputtering and misfiring. I guess the TE/RB are gas in the tank? We're pretty full there, but the car doesn't run well unless all the parts are working together.

3rd & 16 & we’re running a QB draw give up play,. It was stuff like that all night.

Not one single offensive drive looked commanding.

alright. I’m taking my drunk ass to bed.

Kelly ball isn't throwing it 34 times in the 1st half of the Fiesta. We lost in the trenches, it's pretty hard to make an offense move when that happens. Gotta fix the OL again, WRs are what they are, still don't know what we have in Buchner. We're starting 5-6 true Sophomores. We're young, and lacking talent in spots.

The touchdown drive in the second quarter was excellent. Ten plays, five-plus minutes, mixing up run and pass and scheming guys open. We needed more like that in the second half.

It was cool but I still felt like ND was sorta having things go right instead of asserting our will or anything.
