Deadspin being lying sacks of shit?
Never. Lol

They got their just desserts though when their entire staff quit and they've never recovered that brand.

I saw the first episode.

I guess I am thankful that my formative years were in the 80s and 90s prior to cell phones and Facebook. Still such a bizarre situation.

Just watch the 2-part docuseries. My thoughts:

1. Neither Weis or Kelly were on the set. Not one word from either of them - even from film clips.
2. I gather Jack took the lead in protected and framing the issue for the University? He was interviewed a lot.
3. What a great kid and player Manti was. Probably too trusting for sure. But I felt horrible for him.
4. The ending was pretty abrupt.
5. The Catfisher is a total narcissist and has issues. He / She was upset that Manti kept his voicemails. What an idiot.
6. Dr. Phil gets all these loonies on his show. LOL
7. In one scene I saw some of the ND beat reporters and bloggers interviewing Manti before the Championship Game. Thought I saw a larger Driskel there....
8. Manti's parents were great too.
9. No mention of who the leaker was to DeadSpin.
10. Kind of infers that Manti's lack of focus in the Championship game hurt our chances with Alabama and I think that game was never close and totally unfair to Manti.
11. No real follow-up on the girl that photos was (Donna D'Meara??...not recalling her name).

I see Manti is now married and has a kid. I pray people can move on. Catfishing is out there a lot.

Saw a cfb Facebook board discussing the doc,… I figured most other fan bases would find it eye opening,…. And yeah, a few here and there,… most just called the doc bs and piled on ND and Manti for making shit up 🤷‍♂️

The documentary has been discussed a lot on /r/cfb recently, and it's been universal sympathy for Te'o and anger at Tuiasosopo. Gratifying to see that community responding appropriately, because "lol imaginary gf" memes have been relentless there over the last decade.

Again, learned nothing knew. But I loved Ronaniahs "victimization" card reaction about how he felt after Manti released the voicemails "now I have to talk to Dr Phil about this too??"

Destroys a good man's life. Cries when she has to answer a question about his voice on a voicemail.

Gtfo

Only thing I disagree with here is that you called him she. My wife and daughter are a she. That is no she.

I have the same conclusion. There would permanent damage to my reputation if I had a smart phone in my teens.

I remember the media coverage. They attacked him mercilessly. Questioning his sexuality and calling him a fraud.
I only wish he wasn't a senior and had another year to clear his name at a place where he was loved. That must've been brutal trying to go through this while starting a new life.

i'm not putting Manti down but just basically saing that i'm not going to shed a lot of tears for a guy who got a great degree at a school that most kids can't get into then went on to make millions playing in the NFL
The fact that he was financially successful (although less than he should have me been) should have absolutely no bearing on your feelings towards the fact that a genuine, good hearted, caring person that stood for everything Notre Dame is was torn down by an asshole that used all of his greatest qualities against him.

Takes like this are what is contributing to the decay of our society. Who cares if he “made money”??? A kind and overall awesome human being was damaged in ways that he may never be the same.

It clearly impacted NDs success against Bama, killed his first round pick, cost him millions, and he even dealt with it in the NFL, which likely played mind games with him and blunted his potential. Like I said, the pervert should be in jail. Likely he’ll be celebrated for being brave or some shit instead. And if Deadspin ever insinuated that Manti was part of the hoax, they should pay for defamation.

Agreed man. Manti was and is about so much more than money, or he would have just chosen to go to USC to begin with. This took part of him that no amount of money in the world can give back. I was glad to see in The doc that he seems to be in the process of healing somewhat.

I’m glad the doc showed how he didn’t immediately assimilate into ND but by the end he was a perfect fit. Had that shit show gone down at USC, I don’t know if the school or the fan base would’ve had his back like ND did.

I’m just so happy he told this story. It angered me for so many years when friends of mine (Michigan fans) would argue with me and make fun of Manti and when I’d give my rendition of the story saying he was horribly taken advantage of, they wouldn’t listen, laugh and say fuck Notre dame., etc. Well, now they have to listen.

My one big take away from the whole documentary is fuck katie couric for asking him that question on national tv, I don’t remember that interview happening and it was bush league. Was teo naive? Yes absolutely but in no way was that a question that should have been asked

Well i spoke to all the people of Indiana and you are welcome to join. And we got that cheap car insurance and no Governor Whitmer

Lol. I lived in Notre Dame, Indiana for 3 years. Better run state no doubt. Not as pretty though, that’s for certain. I live on the conservative west side. We don’t pay much attention to her or the freaks running things to the east. No joke, people on the east side wear masks alone while driving and 21 year old college students wear them outside. It’s a strange world over there. 😂

She flat out asked him if he was a homosexual on national tv.
The way he answered it was cringe worthy, but his head was spinning form all of this.

Like I said earlier, I wish he still had a year of eligibility left and could've stayed in school until this blew over.

Work on getting the red side to secede or gtfo lmao. Or better idea pretend indiana or ohio showed guns and do like michigan always does and surrender land to the better states.

Keep politics out of sports! Except Manti's thread, otherwise sad taco guy will complain about not being able to ignore a mod.
Sir I demand satisfaction. I challenge you to an IE duel. Let us have a poll. Keep it open for one week and one of us gets voted off the island.

I’m fairly confident the west side of Michigan has more guns than people. That said, it does have its fair share of Walmart Wolverines. However, there are a tremendous amount of ND fans. I’d say southwest Michigan is about 70/30 Notre Dame fans due to geography. I personally live closer to South Bend than Ann Arbor or East Lansing. But the further east you go, the loonier, more atheist, and more crime ridden it gets.

I love my little nook on the west side near the lake. It’s pretty heavenly in the summer (other than the a holes from Illinois that bombard our beach towns all summer and act like us locals are supposed to behave like we live in Chicago). Essentially most pay no attention to our governor over here. But, Michigans west coast is not quite to the level of Hawaii’s beauty, to bring it back to Manti.
