As ND fans we’re simply not used to defending the #1 class in the nation for an extended period of time..

I’m trying to get out of the Kelly “shop down a different aisle” expectations & trust that MF is as good a recruiter as his reputation states.

In that mindset, I have no reason to think MF won’t be all over these guys reminding them why they chose ND in the first place.

Kelly would barely even know who these kids were.. Marcus is “in” with the families.. making real impressions.

Let the kids be kids & let MF do what he supposedly does best..

I think he gets it done.

Its not seeing into the future--its called identifying trends and extrapolating data. Its done all the time in various industries and professions

Only hope is that the millionaires see this as some type of short-term novelty and get bored with it. Its still kinda new so might not stay this hot over the long-term

I'm not doom and gloom--you just don't want to accept reality

Don't shoot the messenger

We’re not even 12 months into Freeman being the head coach, they haven’t even signed his first full cycle’s class. Until this plays out on NSD, no one knows what’s going to happen. There aren’t any trends or data supporting your angle because neither Keely nor Bowen have decommitted. They very well could but using one cycle as an example is a pretty poor sample size.

The fact remains that you haven’t posted anything other than sky is falling dramatics and it’s tired. MGo is probably more your speed

This has nothing to do with it from my view point. We were never going to be the number one class at the finish line.

I am becoming surprisingly ok with that. It may have more staying power by still being meaningfully tide to alma maters than semi pro teams that play at or near or loosely affiliated with college campuses

Mark my words… if you’re going to publicly tweet something negative related to a school that actively recruited you, at least stand by your original tweet instead of taking it down 😂

Unfortunately its going to take more than a pretty boy in an ESQ bamboo dress shirt to combat bags on bags on bags

He still hasn't really closed out anyone amazing yet

Dante Moore lost

Jason Moore lost (not even looking for a bag)

In a dogfight for a red-headed kid from Boston--should've been over months ago but actually likes Dabo better (also not looking for a bag)

He's pretty much holding the line right now. Lets be honest, most all these kids to this point are pretty predisposed to picking ND in a typical cycle

Ausberry would be a good get and Gray is solid too--but other than that?

He actually was more impressive in last years class

I mean swing a Caleb Downs or M'Pemba at least? Can't close out Jason Moore? Why aren't Hanifan and Love locked up yet? Where's the quarterback?

Just not seeing too much different right now from an actual results standpoint

I won’t fault a 17 year old for saying stupid things but that kid has no idea how stupid he looks for saying “mark my words” then literally erasing his words himself. SMH 🤦‍♂️

Are we really doing this?

Yes, Keeley and Bowen are two of our top three recruits and they both feel shaky right now. OK. But at least we're in the fight, which we never were for top 50 kids from Florida and Texas before MF. Maybe we win maybe we lose but this wasn't even a conversation two years ago.

Beyond that...

Gray. Greathouse. Michah Bell. James. Flores. And Shuler. All kids who for one reason or another the previous regime either never takes a swing at or never connects with. Hanafin and Love are still strong possibilities. Ausberry is coming. With Kelly plus NIL and everything we'd be holding our dicks looking at a #12 ranked class with some OLs and TEs and Preston Zinter. Instead we're in a dogfight with the big boys for a top five class. It's a wild ride but if you want to win games in a couple of years this is how you do it.

Another difference for this staff is that I don’t think Freeman will relax once the season comes around. I think this staff is gonna continue to recruit their butts off through the signing day and into February to try and add as much talent as possible. I’m sure they’ve already called Vizzina, Arnold, and probably try Minchey and land that QB. I’m betting they’ll try and look for some wavering guys at WR and DB cause they always need bodies and keep working on some flips or something. I don’t think this staff will get to 23-25ish guys and say okay we’re done for this cycle. You could end up seeing Edwards, Minich, Ausberry and Hanafin all join the class in the next week or two and they’ll still chase Freeling, M’Pemba, Herring, Purchase, and Love amongst other dudes they’ll try and flip. That’s just recruiting 101 at the highest level. You don’t get to your numbers and then just relax.

Since his mom is the one that speaks to media, it's clear to me that without money being involved Keon would be Irish. His mom's tweet about having to listen if offered a mil is worth acknowledging though. They are going to listen to and consider Bama and Fla. schools offering a bag

Sort of reminds me of these coaches going public and saying “we need more money to compete”. I sort of see Mom throwing it out there that we are as loyal as our bank account allows… make me an offer.

This was my exact thought - and I’d venture a guess that Bama saw his moms tweet and made them some sort of offer.

Shouldn’t we be taking our frustrations out on that moron that tweeted her which resulted in her $1 Million response?

Agree on Gray and Ausberry

But...

Greathouse wasn't recruited by any big name schools (for some reason). We beat out S Carolina. Stuckey had already laid the groundwork at Baylor. Probably have Elzy instead if hired the Purdue coach

James literally asked ND to recruit him

Bell didn't even visit another school

James and Bell were possibly the easiest recruitments in history. Phone call to schedule the visit. Visit. Verbal

Flores clearly settled on ND as his best comittable offer. Georgia cancels his visit the day before (ouch) and OSU uses his planned visit as leverage on their Plan A guys. Might still flip if OSU loses Carnell

Shuler dad is huge ND fan

Even Willingham would've closed Hanafin by now. Had Rees as his primary recruiter for some strange reason. Hanafin probably thinks Stuckey thinks he has bad breath or something at this point

Fumbled around/slow played J. Love until he blew up. Could've been over by now

Could've pressed M'Pemba early (although he'd probably flipped eventually)

Jason Moore should be in the class

Ignored a bunch of quality viper candidates so as not to upset Keeley and now trying to play catch-up with them. Straight up told no by the kid from Indy

Dline recruiting as a whole this year is giving off really strong Weis/early Kelly vibes where goes from being "best haul in history" to not even meeting numbers

F'd up Freeling recruitment. Takes skill to botch an oline recruitment at ND. Willingham Trophy unlocked

Quarterback recruiting? Complete clown show. Totally played by Moore camp for two months longer than any savvy staff would have

Now very publicly and loudly going down list of backup plans one by one so that each successive offered quarterback can see how much ND devalues him as compared to the next guy

Its so sad literally have ND beat writers contemplating how great of target Fighting Illini recruit might be

As you correctly point out, anyone with a pulse can recruit oline and tight end at ND

The whole staff pooped the bed in the second half. Glad Elston is gone.

But Rees....OSU made one adjustment. They walked the corners up on the receivers and Rees had no answer. The offense went from steamrolling to not being able to get a first down. This was without even having a DC.

That ain't cutting it.
