All these kids actively talking about flipping our top commits on twitter is a neat evolution of the recruiting game.

Funny thing is Bama is playing a losing game here. If they don't think A&M is going to swoop in and buy a good chunk of their kids at the last minute, they're in for a rough February. Alabama doesn't have the cash to play this game at that level long term.
The thing with Alabama - like Ohio State and Georgia and Clemson - is they offer the whole package. You can play for titles, practice against the best, get great coaching. They don't always need to be the highest bidder with the biggest bag the way Tennessee or Miami or A&M do. They just need to be reasonably competitive in NIL and let everything else they offer carry the day.
In some ways we're in a similar position, at least for kids/families who can actually see the world beyond their recruitment. But we have to be able to compete on NIL too. Playing this game with one hand tied behind our back right now is a losing battle.

I would be shocked if he doesn’t flip to Alabama.

All student athletes absolutely 1000% deserve to be compensated for their name, image, and likeness. However, this current system is deeply corrupt on multiple levels. It has been before and it is now. Adults are full on gambling for the souls of kids. There are no lessons learned here other than the business of sports is about profit. All the lessons about sportsmanship, about embracing challenges, loyalty to teammates, education, etc. are backburner issues when the carrot of high stakes money is dangled in front of you.

He isn’t going to be a student athlete at Bama. He will take BS class so he can focus on the pig skin.

My memory of college and grad school was pretty much all bullshit classes even when I was paying for them not to be

Hopefully. ND in the couple of years!

So he actually decommitted?
Ryan on the IB podcast today said that he still thinks that both KK and Peyton stay in the class but couldn't say anymore about those situations because the complete stories are behind the paywall and i guess they want you to subscribe to read in which i won't

Driskels sources are weak sauce. No one highly placed, as far as I can tell. General paraphrase, “I have a source who talked to the HS head coach and the head coach told him he told ND blah, blah, blah”. Just really attenuated stuff usually. I think he hedges his sourcing with material from other outlets and calls it Intel. They are taking the same position they took with Moore, which is to say (paraphrase) they “haven’t heard anything to change their belief in ND, but nothing is certain.” It’s a bunch of nothing.

Makes me wonder if Kelly flat out left ND due to their NIL stance and he was smart enough to see this coming?

Whether specifically NIL or not--Kelly left because he believed there to be a ceiling on the program

Think its becoming clear that he was probably right

But the NIL definitely is an additional hurdle

As someone else mentioned, not sure how MF is going to want to keep fighting the good fight on 5 stars when ND admin won't allow the use of bags

Bama, A&M, Miami, etc are literally going to be shopping down a different aisle

Might come across an occasional CJ Carr type but not enough of them to matter

Wingo can verbal to ND tomorrow but if he is actually a top10 type national recruit theres no way ND is landing him in the end

ND will still get their top12ish classes but the facade or hope that they're going to recruit at a top 3-5ish level in NIL era should be all but be vanquished at this point for anyone objectively looking at the lay of the land

So, the guy that Freeman gave the one on one Ferrari treatment too is marking his words on the Keeley recruitment. I remember when folks were freaking out about Freeman era recruiting because a 5 star RB was visiting.

Golf is apparently forming its own league. Maybe it’s time to crowd out the cheaters and let them play one another in the SEC.

Had the same thought. It’s not a good look, “thanks for ride, coach!”

The best part of the NIL stuff is that a lot of parents are going to alienate their kids really quickly. A lot of kids are going to have relationships ruined with them paying all the tax and family members looking for handouts. On the Otha hand, they could just get gifted jobs at a booster's company.

A 5 min idea - Have legislation that treats NIL related income in it's own type (employment/investment etc) and have attribution rules where family members can't receive more than >$20K in yearly benefits. Maximum withdrawal of $100k with the exception of approved housing purchases, stops the kids that make tons from blowing the money all in one year unless it's for the purchase of a home. Could have legislation that has bank's offer NIL related bank accounts for players to securely receive payment and to track spending with financial advisor input. Who knows, I think the NCAA should take care of the wellbeing of the players first by putting safeguards in place of shitty family.

You and I both know that no one reading this believes legislators can legislate.

Bama is, reportedly, throwing around bags now. That was the word on the street when they started landing all those big recruits out of nowhere last week.

I’m not trying to be pessimistic… and ND is doing a really good job of taking care of player on campus with FUND… but I think most 5-star recruits these days are simply going to end up at whichever of A&M, Oregon, Miami, Tennessee, etc. wants to put as much money as possible in a contract. Most schools aren’t doing that, it’s not like ND is “behind,” just sorta is what it is. I have a hard time seeing an ND booster going rogue like Ruiz at Miami.
If we aren't ahead of teams in NIL, we are behind. I don't believe that FUND gets ND in the National Championship conversation. Is what it is.

He also needs to be as good of a coach as Kelly. People undervalue BKs ability to build programs mostly bc they don’t like him. Many are assuming MF will just simply be better than a 30 year coach that won at every stop bc he’s recruiting slightly better.
BK was atrocious against teams with equal or better talent

Its not seeing into the future--its called identifying trends and extrapolating data. Its done all the time in various industries and professions

Only hope is that the millionaires see this as some type of short-term novelty and get bored with it. Its still kinda new so might not stay this hot over the long-term

I'm not doom and gloom--you just don't want to accept reality

Don't shoot the messenger

Yep. and he will get drafted in the first round and become a multi millionaire. 4 for 40 is a wonderful insurance policy for players.
