Bottom line, this is the game when you talk about signing the top edge rusher in his class. I know we aren't used to battling for 5 star talent like him, but to hear a lot of our fans waving the white flag is just the last 30 years getting to you. Buckle up! We know that Freeman and Washington are going out and doing their best.

I don’t think it matters if he’s there 2, 3 or 4 days. If he’s there, he’s there.

Let’s revisit this in a month or two.

What the fuck do you even do in Tuscaloosa for four days
Fucking awful but I’m guessing get used to your future environment, get admissions in order, basically get ready to enroll.

Anyone that spends 4 days on campus is getting their apartment, putting down deposits, and enrolling.

This would be a major blow to the freeman hype train … beating osu a must then

Can’t be the first coach in college history to lose their first two games to osu

I think keeley sticks though (no info)

What's the play then? Just give up and mail it in and go to plan Z? Got it. That line of thinking is exactly what won't get ND any closer to a National Championship.

How about the NIL FUND ponies up here. 250k a year 1 mil for 4 years isn't ridiculous for an elite edge rusher. Way higher hit rate than 5 star QBs in comparison. ND is either going to get in or they become like Harvard Football. Pay the man his money

It really is as simple as someone being will to pony up for Keely and Bowen if you want to keep them, but there is no evidence that ND is doing the up front pay-to-play thing.

I Just want to see 1 National Championship in my life time. I don't like what money has done to college sports or sports in general. It's adapt, evolve, or die. Hell, every major sport has drastically changed in the last 15 years in so many ways.
Baseball with money ball and swinging for power, situation be damned. Shifts. Etc. Analytics. Basketball, load up on 3's because once again the analytics agree. Football, spread offense and throwing the ball way more. RBs value goes down, turns out guys can't do that well for more than 3-4 years before they are broken down.
It's happening now in college football. NIL, which makes it at least a more fair playing field IMO. I don't know? It seems like an ND team that can win a championship will bring in astronomical revenue in clothes and memorabilia sales alone. Not to mention the money they make just to make it to a big bowl or the playoffs.
My solution is to invest that money back into football as much as possible. To me the return on investment is there for the Notre Dame and should actually be an advantage with the alumni. Wins on the field equal more money for the University period. I see it as a simple equation. Things happen quick in these paradigm shifting occasions. The time is now to adapt here IMO.
Teams that win, all find an edge and are the quickest to adapt. The edge in NIL should absolutely be there for ND. No time for ND to play it conservative with the money, or waiting to see how it all plays out will be a mistake and another 32 years will go by. I hope for all of our sake that the administration and decision makers for the program find a way to adapt and evolve. If they don't it will be more of the same for another 32 years.
Maybe our ceiling is occasionally sneaking in the playoffs and losing by 14-21 points because we can't sign the 2-3 Five stars per cycle that it takes to win those games. I was 4 and don't remember the last National Title.
It takes players like Keeley every year and if that we have to shell out a few million a year in NIL to roster a team, that is money well spent. There are roughly 25-30 Five star caliber players per recruiting cycle and the ones in the top ten are well worth that investment, especially at his position.

Yeah, he says he is there today, but maybe he clarified later on & I didn’t see it, but the very first thing he said was that he is there today.
So some sites saying today, some saying Saturday, and some saying all 4 days?

Nobody has officially came out & clarified the exact timing yet?
Driskell gets his info from OFD and The Onion. Or whatever the first tweets on his timeline say.

/Sarcasm, kind of.

So if we lose Keeley and Bowen, and can close on Minich and Ausberry, we will finish with 275. That would tie last years haul. Add in a couple of 3 stars and we are around 6 last year.
No bueno - not better than Kelly. Ugh.

I posted a video of Caleb Downs a day or so before he committed. In the video when speaking of Notre Dame (if I recall correctly) he mentioned relationships, and coach Freeman, etc. But at the end he said “And they just got their FIRST DB drafted”. That to me says that even though ND is a national brand, we still have a ways to go to be considered with the likes of the top 5 schools.

I can only imagine the conversations that these coaches are having when talking to recruits about ND. So even though ND is still relevant, many of these kids that don’t know or care about the past are looking at results.

Just gotta win, and win when it matters. As long as MF can field a competitive team and win against the big boys from time to time, everything will change. We may lose a few good recruits but I trust MF will take what he gets and do more with them.
You need to keep Top 50 kids to beat the Top 5 programs. Not a chicken or egg situation.

I think I want to puke.

The Edge rusher is the second most important position in football. This hurts if we lose him like losing Dante. No CJ Carr edge replacement for Keeley

I guess not, but if he is at Bama for all 4 days....then yeah, I would consider him no longer part of the class today.
On3 ND said just Saturday last night.

If it’s just one day, then my concern goes way down.

EDIT:
Alabama On3 site says it’s Friday through Sunday.
They also said Keeley has been in communication with Saban this month.

The group going with him is his mother, cousin & uncle.

I don't think many would disagree with you. The issue is the BoT and others look at NIL as moving away from ND's core mission and how that looks in the eye of the public. They don't think you can maintain your core academic mission if your paying kids to play FB.

I agree. If Keeley is gone the class is status quo. Swapping Kelly for an inexperienced coach will lead to turmoil unless the gap is closed in talent. We could be headed for a pre Kelly era post Lou. It’s not an over reaction to say losing the elite guys is a tragedy for what this needs to be to push the needle.

I agree that's most likely the case. The BoT and administration needs to take a look in the mirror and reflect on what the program has meant to the university itself.

Hopefully we get some extremely wealthy alumni who take matters in their own hands because you're right. The BoT and administration has handicapped this program since circa 1993 imo.

I'm not confident that they will adapt. Two questions for the BoT and admin.

Do you support Capitalism? If so, a measly few million per year for players is worth the demand for these players and the program. These tiny investments are a drop in the bucket and absolutely bring back the returns 10 fold in comparison to what the football program is responsible. ND Football is the bread winner for the the University.

Question 2. Where is the University of Notre Dame and what would the campus look like if it wasn't for the football program?
