What video game are you playing?

ACI - For the experience. It's worth it just to experience the original climbing mechanics, and to play as an assassin that actually assassinates people, rather than whatever the newer games try to do with 'assassin vs templar.' You can totally avoid the repetitive side missions if you want. Or, just put it down when you've had your fill.

ACII - Many consider it the best story, and the main character to be the best character in the series. Renaissance Italy is beautiful and tons of fun to explore. The assassin-tomb-platforming-puzzles alone are worth the price of admission. 10/10 do play.

ACIV - Pirate simulator AND good assassin game. Sail the high seas, go cave spelunking on tropical islands, or rooftop-run through bustling cities. The ship-based combat is fun and challenging, and the fleet mini-game is a time sink.

AC: Origins - My personal favorite because of how damn beautiful Egypt is, and because the father/son storyline tugs on the heart strings. Also their first step into the RPG-style setup. The DLC is A+.

AC: Odyssey - My second-favorite because of how damn beautiful Greece is, and because the DLC reaaaaalllllly dips into the fantasy stuff, and is S-tier IMO.

Thank you for this. I feel like I see mixed things on Origins. Odyssey, II, and IV I have seen get high scores from different ranking sites and support from my friends who have played them. Are they long games akin to Valhalla? I wouldn't say I'm an anal completionist.... but I probably do at least 90% of what's available on average.

I played the first one and found it bland. Then i tried Unity cause its my favorite time period and im a history nerd. Lasted about 7 minutes before i gave up.

II is not anywhere close to Valhalla in terms of size, but it is going to take some decent hours to get close to 100%. A lot of collectibles, and a decent amount of side-contracts.

IV is huge. Between the ocean-based collectibles, island-based collectibles, ship upgrades, and of course the story and city exploration, there is a lot to keep you busy. You could put in 100+ hours easy.

Odyssey might be the biggest of them all. I think Valhalla's map is technically bigger, but Odyssey's elevation changes add a layer when moving around, and the DLC is huge. Also, again, I cannot recommend the 'Fate of Atlantis' DLC enough. Three added fantasy worlds, all of them good, all of them totally different. Added lore, added armor and weapons, etc. So much fun. If I didn't have such a thing for Egyptian history, I'd be the biggest Odyssey fanboy in the world.

ACI, also known as "Climbing Simulator 2007." I have yet to play any of the games after that one, although I'm well aware they got better and less tedious.

I think it really comes down to how much fun you had with AC Valhalla. I've played the vast majority of the AC games, and I found I liked the first ones (AC1, AC2, and AC3) for the stealth mechanics themselves, compared to the more action oriented gameplay of the later games. Controls haven't aged well though and they're wonky at times. AC Origins and AC Odyssey have great stories, but are in the same vein mechanically as AC Valhalla. I did have a blast with the new loot/action mechanics, but they're just way different than the first games mechanically. I like Egyptian mythology and Greek mythology more so than Norse mythology, so I liked those games better. But AC Valhalla just looked so damn pretty on my Series X and my new TV at launch. Currently I'm playing Immortals Fenyx Rising, which is literally a cartoon like re-skin of AC Odyssey (made by the same dev team), but leans way more heavily into the Greek mythology. As in, you're working with Greek gods themselves as the protagonist.

ACIV holds a special place in my heart. Loved all the pirate lore and how they incorporated AC into it. One of the first games where I tried to complete as much as possible. And those sea shanties fucking rippppp.

Full disclosure: Valhalla is the first AC I haven’t finished in a long time. Just when I was going to go back to it, I got sucked into Elden Ring.

If it’s down to a select few I’d go Odyssey for the awesome skill selection and DLC packages, then Black Flag for the pirate experience, then II for the story.

Castlevania 3 update: I beat death finally. Or I should say I got to him finally. He’s WAY easier than the CV1 version. It only took two tries to beat him. Level 9 is pretty easy until you get to the waterfall at the end and then it becomes a BEAST. I was stuck on the waterfall for two days. Then the damn doppelgänger got me. I beat him finally like an hour ago. You can totally spam changing back and forth with Syfa while cheesing the lightning spell,… made one of the notoriously difficult nes bosses pretty easy.

Now for the final level. This may take days

My friends and I were obsessed with Axis and Allies: Europe. For a school project we tried to make a NATO v. USSR version and it turned out to be a bit too complicated for 12 year olds.

1.) We didn't know how to work with nukes.
2.) We didn't know what to do with victory conditions.

After preaching the good word on Assassin's Creed: Origins to @DONTH8... it ends up on Xbox Gamepass.

And damned if I didn't somehow end up starting a new game by accident last night.

"I'm just gonna download it so it's there and ready when I finish Elden Ring."
"Oh wow that dowloaded fast. No harm in opening the game and setting up my accessibility preferences before I play Elden Ring."
"I guess I'll just watch the opening cinematic, because I love the story and want to see the graphics on the Series S."
"Well, no harm in going through that first tomb and fighting that first bad guy at this point. It's just 10 minutes of play."

I loved HZD as a dinosaur-hunter-simulator, but the climbing and stealth mechanics were lacking big time. It was hard to try and play the way they seemed to want you to play.

Loved the one in Florence,… was hyped for the Revolution one and the one on the Vita but they both, in my opinion, were so bad I basically moved on from the whole series
