So my grandpa isn't doing well lately. He has a big family, so he instructed my mom and her siblings to go through his house and try to get everything together. It isn't a matter of figuring out who gets what when the time comes... it's a matter of figuring out what has value, so they can sell things and pay off my grandma's medical debt from when she passed.

He was a car salesman at the same dealership for 45+ years, and was REALLY good at his job. In addition to his pay, he got 'points' to spend in GM gift catalogs, and would buy two of every item he got. One was for his kids to open and use, and the other was to keep boxed up, unopened.

My mom unearthed brand new, factory-sealed Atari 2600, NES, and SNES. It's like finding the Holy Grail!

My grandpa's oldest son is the OG video game nerd in the family (he taught me how to play doom on his PC back in the mid-90's), so he'll probably call dibs on those if they decide not to sell them... but I went ahead and planted a bug in my mom's ear that I'd like to have any of them that he's willing to part with lol.

Been continuing to take my time with Elden Ring, playing here and there (while mixing in an NCAA14 dynasty with ND).

I discovered Ranni’s place after getting through Caria Manor, so I’ve been doing that quest line. I wanted to stay busy and AVOID the Radahn fight for a while, and I had heard Ranni and Rogier have some long, involved quest lines… lol fuck me right?

Having said that, I just took on Radahn, and discovered that’s actually a fight that’s pretty easy to cheese. Just hop on Torrent and gallop around hitting the NPC summons. Help out with some drive-by heavy attacks when NPC’s have aggro, revive them when they die, rinse, repeat.

Heading to Nekkron after the kids are in bed tonight, then trying to decide what to do before heading to the capital.

I’m at the point where I’m on the last story boss plus a couple Demi gods left to kill. I’m struggling with them and I’m. A level 188. I just suck at these. Took me forever to beat Malikith and then I had to go and fight the last last boss. Lol. Brutal. In between rage quits I just go and explore as much as I can. Still finding all kinds of secrets. Crazy good game.

It is truly unbelievable just how much they’ve packed into this game. The map itself is massive and full of shit to do (and has like 5 different layers), the mini-dungeons, the BIG dungeons, the portals zipping you around to places you’ve somehow missed.

I know the map isn’t as massive as some recent open-world RPG’s, but it’s soooooooo perfectly crafted. I can’t think of anything comparable in terms of functional complexity. My bias says that AC: Origins and Odyssey are close when you consider the added DLC areas for both games, based on how unique they are… but they still don’t hold a candle to Elden Ring in terms of overall quality of gameplay and atmosphere. It’s just awe-inspiring whenever you turn the game back on lol.

I resumed my task of completing all the Dragon Quest games in the series. I've been playing them all on the Raspberry Pi I setup. I was in the middle of the translated Dragon Quest VI on SNES last year when our new house got finished and I never got around to beating it. Finished that one a few weeks ago...it was interesting. I'm now pretty deep into DQ VII that was originally released on PSX. I can kind of see why these two games were mostly forgotten. They don't quite hold up as well as DQ V or DQ VIII which are both highly regarded.

I never did finish VII back in the day...it's a slog. There are some good moments, but the whole time travel element isn't done very well imo and it gets to be tedious traveling back and forth and revisiting every place in the present that you saved in the past. I'm not sure why they decided to introduce the Temple of Darma for class changes so late into the game too, took way too long to unlock. It shouldn't take 20+ hours to allow for class changes from the default "No Class" status. You're stuck fighting bosses with few or no skills at your disposal for like...1/3 of the game. Awful design. You get a few party members way too late to be able to make much use of them too. You really shouldn't be introducing a main party member in the final act of a play. Needless to say, VII is not one of my favorites in this series. I am looking forward to replaying VIII after this, and I have not played IX previously which will be the last one I play since DQ X is in Japanese and mostly region locked, and I replayed XI last year during the move.

Just about finished Ranni's questline, I think? I just got finished defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void on my lunch break.

First of all, fuck this game for not having a grace before the boss room. I went in limping because I was trying to rush through the centipede things, and they jacked me up with several of those bullshit arrow attacks.

Having said that... Astel was a big softy compared to how intimidating he and his attack patterns look. The AOE on his explosive attacks wasn't nearly as bad as it seems, and he was easily staggered by my battle mage's stone sling. I let my mimic tank damage while I hit a few heavy attacks and got a critical after the stagger, and that was that. I was surprised that it was kind of a breeze compared to what I expected, but maybe he's just that susceptible to magic? I'm using the Meteorite Staff and the Moonveil Katana, so it must be a weakness for him.

I tried not to look up too much spoiler info, but I'm fairly certain I just have to go explore another cave to finish the questline and get my prize. Then I think I'm going to lollygag some more and see what kind of hidden bosses I can unearth before going to Lyndell.

Side Note: I've got about 6 different catacombs locations unlocked on the map... but they scare me and make me anxious. Maybe I'll man up and tackle a few tonight while it's dark and stormy outside.

Good grief, ACamp. I wasn't being insulting or negative. I was just making conversation. They are classics.

Which did you like better, two or three?

Do you even Simon's Quest, bro?!
I will be playing it soon on the NES mini I just ordered.

It's been so long. Did it have better mechanics?
I remember thinking three was a little unfair at the time with having to stand somewhere for like 5 minutes until some random whirlwind came to take you away.

It's only like...12 seconds, but yes, an unfathomable amount of time when you consider it was a vague hint to begin with. That's like the biggest knock on the game is that one moment.

Is this one of those moments where you're not serious? All 4 in your Top 10?! I might put one of them in there...
Also, did you watch the Netflix series? I can't remember.

Wow, 12 seconds. It seemed like minutes as a kid.
Zelda and Metroid were my favorites of that system. Regardless and Kid Icarus were cool too.

Even 12 seconds is an exaggeration. It's only 4 seconds...but yeah, still too long for the vague clue that was given. It's been like 35 years though, I feel like most long time gamers know about it now so it's not a big deal anymore.

Simon's Quest will always be my favorite among the original trilogy. I prefer the traditional RPG elements of collecting the MacGuffins and not losing my sweet ass whip upgrades when I die. I worked for that shit, dammit! Plus Bloody Tears fuckin' slaps as a game tune.

I think it’s my least fav but it’s like:

9:5 vs 10s for the other two. That trilogy was my childhood

After 130 hours, I have finally 100% AC Valhalla. (no DLC). It's the first AC game I have played and it was enjoyable for the first half. Then the story was long and arduous at times. Not to mention traversing the world and everything was not fun and by the end its almost advantageous to outright wreck camps/targets rather than sneak around and pick them off. the last 10 or so hours though were a lot of fun to watch and connect the dots. As someone who knew nothing about the franchise, it was fascinating how they work the whole world into Norse Mythology being the vehicle to Eivor. Super cool. I may want to try out some other games in the franchise if people here say it's worth it. Overall I would say it's like a 7/10. probably would be higher if my brain wasn't mush by the end of the 100% portion of the game.

That being said, I have officially completed my backlog of games. This is the first time since I started college in 2014 that I have reached this point. I have no idea what to try next. Hades is everyone's suggestion, but idk if it's my style of game. Obviously, there is Elden Ring but that sounds like an absolute commitment that I cant make.
