That's like the second time at least in the last 6-8 months where someone has shot multiple people, but they're allowed to go out on bail because no fatalities I guess? Like...I guess cause they got lucky that no one died, so they're not a danger or anything anymore? WTF.

It’s also crazy that these things happen and then people blame the shopping centers for not having enough security rather than blaming the culprits. The way it’s going, you’ll have to go through a security checkpoint like TSA in order to walk into a store.

Probably racist. TSA a racist colonial institution. “Checkpoints” is a trigger word for the historically disadvantaged.

Me: It’s was a decent weekend. Went shopping, wanted to hit up Home Depot but spent too much time at Bed Bath and Beyond… didn’t have enough time, what did you do?

Him: Went to the mall, had some teriyaki chicken at the Chinese place at the food court and then had a little run-in and shot 9 people…

The shooting that occurred in Buffalo was terrible and I hope that the perpetrator is served a big slice of swift justice…..even if there is no justice for what he did and it probably won’t be swift. To make matters worse, the headline I just saw on a Rolling Stone magazine article……”The Buffalo Shooter Isn’t a ‘Lone Wolf.’ He’s a Mainstream Republican”. Really??? The current state of media is a significant contributor to the radicalization of susceptible people and the cycle just keeps repeating itself. It appears learning is difficult.

It's really telling that they'll hammer these stories early, but if the facts come out that the perpetrator is a minority or doesn't fit the narrative it quickly gets squashed. Either report everything accurately and unbiased or not at all. Wackos come in all shapes and sizes, you don't need to paint just one side.

Buffalo shooter was referred to by the AP as a "white teenager."

Both 18 years old. So, yeah, I agree our media is fucked up a bit.

Said the Buffalo shooter drove over 3 hours to get there. Wonder what the reason was when there would be plenty of other targets closer. Would really like to know at what age he started thinking in this manner. Did the parents share similar views? Sad situation.

The Great Replacement Theory isn't new. There is no use blaming Trump, Tucker Carlson or anyone else because it came long before them. It's always been there, prior to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. It may seem like this is on the rise again but in most cases it has been hiding in plain sight, if hiding at all.

This guy's mental health is going to be the main point of emphasis for the majority now. No one will dare call him a "thug" or even a terrorist. Driving over three hours to go shoot at random people who are of a specific race is terrorism. I have a hard time being convinced of otherwise.

It's one thing to put a rifle into the hands of an 18 year old that signs on to be in the military, but we have a group of Americans in this country whose priorities as it relates to the Second Amendment are totally out of whack. Background checks, proper training, proper age. Something that should be taken very seriously isn't being taken seriously enough by a nation that continues to get less serious about too many important things.

The author of that Rolling Stone article was found to have wrongly accused an ICE officer of sporting a Nazi tattoo when it was actually a cross that represented his platoon when he was in Afghanistan. She apologized and acknowledged her error but then blamed the public for “ruining her life” b/c she chose to step down from The New Yorker. I guess Rolling Stone was there to break her fall.

Maybe actually do something to prevent this since it's the only nation where it happens frequently? Visits to Buffalo are empty gestures at this point. It's bullcrap.

They actually passed legislation because people were standing outside protesting at the homes of Supreme Court Justices but another shooting gets the thoughts and prayers dog and pony show from left, right and center.

Greatest County in the World? Show me.

These shootings are too much, it's disgusting. Racially motivated or not... it's also predictable and disgusting how only certain angles are used in the aftermath, everything's a political football.

Random thoughts: I would love a realistic, effective method to tone down gun violence but full confiscation doesn't seem realistic in my mind and I imagine it won't be very effective either. This issue feels like immigration to me. Both sides like to use it but neither is really willing to truly work on a middle of the road solution. Something has to change however, I'm fully on board there.

After the liberal mob ran free terrorizing cities and highways in 2020 and the elected leaders cheered them on, the public bought guns in record numbers and lost the appetite for people who can't or don't want to police our cities, simultaneously disarming them.

No, disarming people is not the answer. The question of how to prevent these without infringing on people's fundamental rights is a fair question. We currently live in a world without significant consequences. From elementary school to adulthood. Police forces (many) are underfunded, and we can't agree on how to punish people. I'm all for hammering people committing crimes in possession of a firearm or other crimes indicative of violent/reckless behavior. That approach has been deemed unacceptable by some. The guy who championed a crime bill back when he was coherent for druggies should do it again, except for people who don't belong on the streets. His party that likes bail reform laws and inept DA's will probably be divided, but I think it would have bi-partisan support from the common-sense crowd.

Gun violence is not inevitable. Every other developed nation in the world does a better job of protecting its people from gun violence. The gun murder rate in the United States is 25 times higher than it is in other nations, and American teenagers are 82 times more likely to die from a gun homicide than their international peers.

Domestic terrorism like this is something else. All shapes, colors and forms of it should be condemned across the board without exception. It isn't.

Gun violence is a public health issue and needs to be treated as such. I consider not getting riddled with bullets at a grocery store or at a concert a fundamental right, and I don't consider the best solution is being armed to myself . I have three elementary aged kids. They've done lock down drills since Pre K. That's dog crap, and quite frankly, I don't feel that coincides with having freedom or any pursuit of happiness. I come from a family of police officers and teachers. Post Columbine, I am now living a life having to stress about the safety of both.

We had assault weapons bans in my lifetime under Reagan, GHW Bush, etc. that were supported by both parties. Overwhelmingly. Then one day those bills didn't get passed anymore. Why?
